We love the relaxing ambience and extremely friendly and helpful staff. They gave us lots of guidance and help in touring the Angkor Wat. The location is quiet yet close to town, which is such a gem in Siem Reap.
I'm not very good at writing reviews so I'm just going to go ahead and tell you what makes this hotel so special. Background: We were the only people in the hotel during the Khmer new year and stayed 3 nights in the Green Room. There were probably only 10 staff working at the time as most were on holiday. Cambodians have a week off for their new year. Room: Lovely - It's been decorated with a uniquely personal touch and felt like we were staying in a home rather than a hotel room. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the room was huge. Also large was our private balcony/deck which overlooks the pool. It's well shaded too. The bathroom was also gorgeous and had everything we needed. Staff: Staff are all lovely and helpful, especially with local knowledge. We'd have liked to have met the owner Nathalie but I don't think she was there the same time we were. Their English skills were also excellent. Food: To put it bluntly: fantastic. We had the continental breakfast all three mornings which was simple yet delicious at the same time. A great way to start the day. Service was quick too. Their lunch and dinner menu are also excellent, especially for such a small hotel! Grounds: BEAUTIFUL gardens surround the two houses here. They are so well laid out and are superbly looked after. Flowering bushes, plants, tall palm trees, everything. The pool is huge and also well maintained. We didn't notice any maintenance issues either: no stains on fabrics, no marks on the walls, no chips in the pool etc etc. I always look out for these things as the less there are, the better the hotel seems to be overall. (shows that someone cares about the services they're providing.) Every area of the hotel seems to have been lovingly designed. Beautiful ornaments, decorative objects, and art are everywhere giving a personal feel to your surroundings.
Room for improvement: We thought maybe staff were a little too meddlesome when it came to our tours of Siem Reap. We felt a little pressurized into changing it according to the numerous suggestions that were made. it turned out in the end that our original tour itinerary worked fine and that we didn't need their help at all really. It made us feel like they thought we had no idea what we were doing when in actual fact I spent hours and hours researching the best tour guides and itineraries. We also felt that were a bit of a burden to them given the fact it was their new year - we booked a car to the airport but later in the day were told we couldn't get one from them. They also asked if our lunch could be moved to an earlier time to accommodate staff. Forgive me but I think staff are there to accommodate guests, not the other way round, especially if we are paying full price to stay there. That said, this didn't really affect our stay at all as we are easygoing people and we would come back in a heartbeat. There was also continuous loud music from the surrounding areas given the New Year festivities. It made sleeping difficult but we appreciate that this isn't under the hotel's control. This didn't really affect our stay either as at the end of a full day of templing we were too tired to care! There are a lot of other buildings and homes surrounding the hotel so keep in mind it's not remote by any means so there's likely to be ambient noise all through the year. How loud this is, I don't know.
I was taken care of from the moment I landed until the moment I had to leave. A beautiful respite of peace and tranquility. I would return in a minute.
The staff at Maison Polanka is truly the best I've had the pleasure of encountering in any hotel. The service, the food, and the genuine kindness of the staff were all top-notch. Staying here will almost guarantee a unique and wonderful experience in Siem Reap. Thank you to the entire staff!!
Everything!!! Maison Polanka is a wonderful property: a mix between interior design, luxury, tailor made assistance... Excellent food, friendly and knowledgeable local staff, always smiling, always ready to make your staying memorable. English perfectly spoken. A special mention to nice and interesting talking with the French owner. He really made feel us at home and gave great suggestions about sightseeing, shopping venues, etc. All above at reasonable rates!
