Patrick the manager/owner is a charming French fellow, who has a story to tell to while away the hours over dinner, and plenty of local advice to give the eager traveller. With his partner, the duo run the hotel very well with great attentive staff.
It's quiet and the beds were comfortable. The hotelier organised tours for us that basically did what we needed. The restaurant is fine if you want, say, fried rice for breakfast. It's on the main road between the city centre and Angkor Wat which will be convenient for most people. The rating is generated from my answer to questions, if I had control of it I would give a higher score.
Our payment went missing, we had no receipt (can't recall if we got one I'd so lost it) and we ended up paying twice. (After we paid the second time the receptionist asked us if we would like a receipt and got an annoyed and emphatic yes.) Getting anywhere late at night can be an issue as the tuk-tuks which infest the area in the day and evening abandon it later. (Getting back to the hotel from, say, Pub Street is easy.) The tours were functional but we only got drivers, no option of guides. The restaurant is limited and falls over on Western food.
The pictures are really misleading, the walls are very dirty and I am not sure the rest is clean either. I saw bugs around..
- proximity with Angkor temples - friendliness of staff with good pieces of advice from the manager - cleanliness of the room - food
- quite far from the city centre, must take a tuk tuk to get to it (2,5 km)
The best thing about this hotel is the staff. They go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. I'd recommend this place to anyone, but beware, you may not want to leave!
From the moment I arrived on the complimentary Tuk Tuk from the airport, provided by the hotel, I was treated like family. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. I booked for 3 nights and stayed for 3 weeks. I guess that says a lot! Patrick the owner and his team made my stay one I'll not forget. Restaurant chef is excellent. I recommend the Amok. Hotel is 2km from town, on the road to Angkor Wat. Tuk Tuk is $2 to town and always ready and waiting out front. Patrick has expert knowledge of the area and all the tours you could need at great prices. Highly recommend.
I can't fault this place. There are geckos on the balcony; if you don't like geckos, then I'm sorry. :)
The staff are great. Patrick and all the ladies that work at Avalon are lovely, helpful and friendly. Great value for money! The rooms are clean and spacious and they come in and make the bed and give you a fresh towel every day. They also offer spa services and are able to arrange any tour you are after. We felt very comfortable here and would definetely recommed it.
Patrick, the owner, is very considerate and went out of his way to invite me to evening events as well as show me the local markets and sights. All other tours can be booked here if desired. Being a French owner, the kitchen is also very good...!!! The location is only 2km out of the city centre, away from the noisy drinking areas, but on the way to Angkor Wat, so ideally located.
WiFi connection is quite strong. The hotel is located on the way to Angkor Wat. A bit far from Bar Street but still in city area, costed around 2$ for Tuk tuk.
First they gave us the wrong room, and 5 minutes after unpacking, we had to move to another room. The water was smelly and yellowish. We even took a picture of the water to compare with. The first night was totally horrible. 20 minutes of black out with no window. Lucky enough the guard downstairs came up to give out a torchlight. And no water supply for shower during that time. Totally frustrated. The next morning, we decided to check out. The manager was so rude, keep raising her voice at us, yelling non stop when we asked for explanation. Worst she involved her husband, who had nothing to do with this. The receiptionist had apologized to us for her manager's behaviour. Really I never had been treated like this for the whole of my life. Siem Reap is such an interesting place for us but never will we forget that manager's rudeness ;(
Everything in the hotel from the warmth of the hotel staff to the room facilities. Fast and efficient room service, language is never a problem, comfy bed and spacious toilet. Everything just perfect and fit according to my budget. Perfect for individual, couple or even group stay. Highly recommended!
Probably its location where TukTuk(vehicles) is required to go anywhere as few walking-distance tourist attraction. Other than that, Avallon is simply amazing!
The stuff was nice.
Bugs on the bed and bit me in the night. The room is different with the photos.
Staff are extremely friendly and will help book trips, order taxis and advise on restaurants
Slightly away from other hotels but well located between Angkor wat and the city centre
The receptionist that greeted us assisted us well in many ways possible.
The darkness and ambience of the place. No complimentary stuff, i guess it comes with the cheap price of the hotel
The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. I felt like part of the family. If you communicate with the staff they are more than willing to help with anything. Really anything. I am a single female traveling. I felt extremely safe. Will definitely come back. My tuk tuk driver was very kind and informative. I never once felt cheated or pressured. Really lovely for the price.
Excellent location and well behaved staff. All the information were obtained at reception. Basic requirements were available. Excellent wi-fi
Lightning, the room could have more/better lights
Great location- in the middle between temples and Siem Reap center. A little shame our dedicated tuk tuk driver didn't speak much english but was really helpful and gave us a good ride! Also when you will be there in hotel - enjoy Khmer massage with oil-trully awesome after a day trip!
We stayed in room facing the street - for us was a bit noisey during the night. Room was a little bit outdated, but still a very good value for a price.
Very friendly staff, very helpful.
Very far Outsider the City center. The shower broke, there were cockroaches in the lobby.
the Manager was willing to give background information on the culture and practices of the Cambodian people
- Good price for night. - Really near location for visiting Angkor Wat. - The owner is really gentle. - They come to pick you up free at the airport (but expecting then that you pay something more for their services), and they offer you a drink when you arrive.
- The assistant of the owner that try to push you all the time in every expansive tour - dinner - service. - Not highest quality in all of them (for what I tried), and not enough flexibility on the private tours (like all the other tourist) - Small rooms. - Not a walking distance to Siem Reap. - Air conditioning was not working properly.
Very nice people, good service, they took care of us during our whole stay. You can really expreience and enjoy the place an life of the people itself. It's halfway between the city center and the Angkor complex, so you don't have to travel the whole way every time.
It is a very good two star hotel. The owner is a nice French guy who organized me good trips around Angkor Wat. There is a nice spa in the hotel. The staff is very nice and helpful. All was simple but with kind of taste and worked properly.
According to the photos from the site I expected better room interior. The location is not that good because it is quite far from the center and no restaurant around except one in Le Meridien. Surely it is not the option for those who prefer luxury and comfort. It is a simple, cheap but very cosy hotel.
Very friendly staff. Good restaurant. Good new shower. Clean bed linen. Good price.
The owner and the staff are so helpful and good fun. They go out of their way to make you welcome.
The hotel is centrally positioned and provides easy access to all the main attractions of Siam Reap. The Tuk Tuk driver on the stand outside the hotel is excellent and the staff in the hotel are always on hand to help. Rooms are large and the showers are good - essential after a dusty tour of the temples.
The hotel has recently been taken over and the new owner is in the process of updating some of the rooms and the restaurant. Some of the areas of the hotel look a little unloved but I am sure this will improve.
Very friendly and helpful owner.Perfect choice for this price…..
