I stayed at the Sadovaya for 4 nights, after reading numerous reviews, and have no regrets at all. Vladimir and his family, are very nice people and will do anything to help and make you feel at home, and make your stay comfortable, breakfast is absolutely awesome. It's not far from the Green Bazaar and other attraction,I have no hesitation in recommending this place.
Noting bad or negative to say.
It was our second stay and it was same amazing: free transport from airport/to the station, very helpful and friendly personnel and tasty breakfast. Everything is clean and comfortable.
Everything was great :)
The guest house did the registration for us very conveniently, which is very very important for foreign travellers with Kazahk visas. Kind drives from the airport and to the train station. Kind grandma serves us wonderful food. Strong recommendation.
The transportation from the airport was very important for two ladies of 70+ the help finding the areas around was wonderful The ability to use an iron to make my travel weary clothes presentable was an unexpected bonus Again my thanks to the owners
It was difficult to find the place after a day of walking about as are matter-of-fact the taxi did not have a clue we were lucky enough to find two young man who put us in their car and took us right to the doorstop this is a wonderful thing to say about the country and the people that live in it Perhaps a better map with the location of the house might be helpful at least the two little ladies like us
Friendly and interested, Vladimir and Alex go out of their way to help you out. Great walkable location and home cooked breakfast. Recommended
Massive room with a equally massive lounge attached, which was great because I had to do some work in the room, but might be too big for others. The owner and his son are really helpful and will drive you to places. They also helped me grab cash and a Kazakh mobile when I arrived. Basically they made me really quickly get in the Almaty step which might have taken longer if I'd just gone to a hotel. It's also a short walk (10-15 minutes) from one of the main streets and Panfilov Park, which I found really convenient (couldn't understand the few comments on here saying it was miles out of the centre).
Given you could hire an apartment for less, you might think it's a bit overpriced for Kazakhstan, especially if you're a solo traveller, but you could fit three people into the room easily (you could actually fit 20 people in easily) which would make it fine. I was basically taking the initial hit as I wanted a quiet and helpful place to stay when I first arrived
Hospitality, good beds, great service including free airport pick-up.
quiet great breakfast 10 min. from restaurants(walking) beautiful surroundings in backyard hotel staff is the best free shuttle to airport(30 min). family owned..very friendly
everything... Thank you ALEX! You and Your family is great!
This guesthouse is really a gem. The owner Vladimir is ready to offer help (airport pick-up, free ride to places you'd like to go, etc) anytime. You can't imagine how big the breakfast prepared by babushka (granny in Russian) is. Room is spacious and comfortable. I really enjoyed my stay there.
Nothing. Just to note that the location may be difficult to find on your own; and you'd better pick up some basic Russian words for an easier communication with Vladimir as he doesn't speak much English.
Best home stay in a 12 week Central Asian tour. No service was too much trouble, driving to transport hubs, laundry etc. great breakfast courtesy of the grandma. Great BBQ restaurant just a few minutes walk from the guesthouse.
Nothing - was perfect.
Really helpful and very kind staff, who can solve all your requests. Big rooms, good breakfast. Close to Kazakhstan Hotel and Medeu mountain. Very silent place.
Walking to main road is around 10 min by small roads. Difficult to find location and explain to drivers. Small building.
The owner & his family were extremely kind and friendly. Free pickup from airport / dropoff to bus termimal was really good. Room was large, clean and comfortable. Very quiet location. Wi-Fi was fast enough. We asked them where to have a dinner and local beer. There was a tasty shish kebab house just down the street. Very popular for local people.
It could be difficult to find this place for the first visit. (Should ask them for free pickup !)
Friendly owner Vladimir, he can advise where to go, good advises, ESP for people who doesn't know the city, and where to go to spend good time in Almaty, was helpful to direct to the nearest shops, if you forgot something, and need to buy something urgently, even proposing his car service if had time, meeting in the airport is exceptional service too, when you tired from traveling. Nice area to stay, home cozy feelings
Have nothing to mention
If you are into private guesthouses with close relations to the owners, you will probably not find any place better than this. The hosting family are ready to help whereever they can to make you feel comfortable during your stay in Almaty. It is located within a network of narrow streets, that allows you to experience a part of the city, which you otherwise would not come to see. Without any hesitation I can recommend Guesthouse on Sadovaya.
Apart from the dogs in the neighboorhood I really did not dislike anything at all. Be aware, however, that the place might be hard to find due to its location.
Everything was excellent and the owner was super friendly.
What a welcome urban retreat! We stayed here on the tale-ends of our Central Asia trip and am so thankful for this guesthouse. The breakfast, the airport shuttle, the high quality of the bathrooms. After staying in 2 weeks of guesthouses, this one stands out as the best. Do get dinner at the kebab house on the street corner! The duck skewers were our favorite.
Great location, close to the city center but still very quiet. Vladimir was very hospitable and he picked us up from the airport at 2 am with no additional charge. He gave lots of recommendations too. We had a spacious room, a bathroom with a bathtub and wi-fi was working perfectly. The home-made breakfast was delicious.
Clean with helpful staff - for example helped me get a taxi to Bishkek. Very helpful to fellow guest whose luggage was lost by airline.
This is not the place if you don't speak some Russian since its really far from the central city and not near major streets. You have to be comfortable picking up a ride on the street and negotiating the fare and know where you are going.
This is one of the best guest houses you will ever stay in. Vladimir and his family are a warm and friendly family who take great lengths to ensure their guests are comfortable and happy. Airport transfers are free, breakfast is fantastic and the accommodation is excellent. The location is great and walking downtown only takes a few minutes. I highly recommend this guesthouse. If you are traveling to Almaty stay here!!
This place was magic! Apart from a wonderful, large suite which was super comfortable, Vladimir, the owner, and his mother made us feel supremely welcome. We were looked after as if we were good friends, but never smothered. A wonderful place...
There was really nothing not to like about this place. There was a ten to fifteen minute walk to the main streets and city centre, but that was easy and past some shops and restaurants, so really no hardship.
It is not the ritz, it is not the Plaza - it IS a genuine homely guesthouse - and the owner Vladamir is the best host you could wish for in a foreign land - could not do enough for you. with millions of faceless hotels out there, with their fake 'have a nice day's' - Vladamir is remenicent of a by gone era when hotel owners took real pride in real service to real guests..
1. the onwer, the whole family is very friendly and helpful, doing things from bottom of their heart, very pleasant stay, you feel like at home rather than travelling 2. breakfast is exceptional tasty, cooked by the elder lady, the best we have ever had during our trip in Central Asia 3. free transfer to/from airport, Vladimir and his son Alex took us to the airport even during mid-night 4. room is spacious, very clan and cozy 5. wifi is fast enough even for video streaming
Great location just on the edge of the city. Very quiet, and the guesthouse is in a nice shady garden setting. Excellent service from Vladimir, who will pick you up and deliver you to the airport all free of charge. The breakfast is enormous, cooked by Vladimir's very nice mother. You could not stay in a better place in central Asia.
Helpful owner who picked us up at the airport and drove us to the train. Location was very convenient. Room was large and comfortable. Large, home cooked breakfast.
Lack of outdoor seating area.
