Friendly staff many speak English, location, mix of Soviet/Kazakh style (i.e., not generic Holiday Inn/Marriott style)
The location was very good. Right across the street is Memorial Park which was nice since we were with our 6-year old daughter.
The bed was not the most comfortable for me. Also, upon check-out, there was a bit of confusion about whether we taken from the mini-bar. We hadn't as there's a market just down the street. The cleaning lady kept saying that we had. I think the hotel needed to do a thorough check of the room prior to us entering. Had they done so, they would have seen that the mini-bar items were not fully stocked upon our arrival.
The fluency of the staff in english was limited at times but they were always very helpful! Not too far from the airport and there were several things to see in the area!
The location in the center of Almaty is the only major advantage of this hotel old fashioned still in the soviet style and mentality.
The girls on the reception are kind and do their best to help you but without any knowledge of foreign language, not important for me I speak russian but for other travellers I saw many difficult situations. The security is very rude, again typical old soviet style, and are acting absolutely unfriendly.
very good location, close to the main market and big shops, different cafe within walking distance. The choice for breakfast is not wide but all meal is tasty. rooms are clean. There was nice view to the mountains from my window
the hotel is old style, the furniture is not new, but it's ok for its money
Staff at reception is really friendly and always helpful
WLAN, location, restaurants nearby
No proper table for work in room, sauna not ready for use, gym is a joke
1.very small room; 2.not comfortable bed; 3.too noisy! It sounds like there is a night club underground.disco music nosied almost whole night!I did't sleep all the night. I will never come back.
Free of charge high speed wireless. Big and good refrigirator in the room.
Room comfort - no reading lamp. Airconditioner was noisy.
The room - comfortable bed, comfortable pillow, little fridge, TV, old Soviet style dark wood furniture. Restaurant is nice, based on a Kazak 'yurta' house, large circular with some nice artwork on walls. Simple but good breakfast. Polite, helpful reception staff. Central location for those looking for that.
Staff Cleanliness Location Free and speedy internet connection Excellent Restaurant design with fantastic pictures
Poor facilities Local food based poor breakfast
Breakfast. The breakfast room(?) was incredible with Kazakh style rugs and paintings on the ceiling. Also Wifi connection was not so bad. Upon check out, one of the staff arranged me a taxi to airport. It was very smooth arrangement and the taxi was very comfortable. The driver was so sweet that he exchange my big note of bill at petrol station.
Room is quite old. Need to renovate. Aircon was an old style and not much working.
Breakfast was pathetic. Room was dirty.
Rude staff, no drinking water in the rooms. Some random guy snoring well loud all night long. Made an attempt to iron my shirt, tough luck at this place. Still relatively expensive for what you get in return.
Really old "soviet style" hotel
Friendly, helpful English speaking staff. Plenty of choice at the breakfast buffet. The bathroom was by far the cleanest I've ever seen in any former Soviet Union country. Excellent location opposite Panfilov park, with a metro station and lots of good restaurants within walking distance. There's an ATM in the lobby. The WiFi signal was very strong.
Minor detail: there were only two free wall outlets.
old soviet style hotel and staff. need to be rebuilt
Location, location, location. This hotel is in the center of whatever one might like to do in Almaty. The room was a clean and relatively new looking. Not dark at all, as I have heard from others. Staff was very helpful - even arranged an airport taxi at 3,000 tengi (a bargain).
The room had two twin beds and really begged to only have one double. Still the accommodations were fine. My wife and I slept together on one of the oversized twin beds - not as much room as a queen bed would provide, but when you are in love...
Location was great.
Cigarette smoke seemed to come up from the basement in the ventilation. Staff was not knowledgable about the official visas verse tourist visas.
Staff needs training to receive guests. I was not welcome Many questions obstacles, unnecessary questions . lack of a welcome
Staff is extremely friendly and helpful
The location is excellent.
They could have helped me get a taxi with a better fare.
