Unfortunately I was only in Pakse for 1 night. The city has lots to do and lots to offer, however isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing. Many come here to do the Pakse loop which is supposed to be great.

I have been to Pakse a number of times, it backs onto the majestic Mekong River. I can thoroughly recommend both the Champasak Grand Hotel and the Pakse Hotel. There is a lovely market located in the centre of the town where you can buy nearly anything.

Decent restaurants and good to get convenience items, but not much to do directly in the town. Good hub for day-trips via motorcycle or tour, but expect to get really dirty if you do them via motorcycle as only the very largest of the main roads are paved outside of the town.
Not much nature nearby, all flat areas have been cleared and converted to farmland. It takes a bit of work to get to areas with a bit of nature, but it's nice once you do so. Once you're out of the town the small villages vary from somewhat picturesque and mostly traditional to modern cement. Definitely worth exploring the countryside via motorcycle.
Waterfalls are nice, but can be a bit crowded (by local standards).

We chose the more expensive 4,000 island tour expecting to see more. We spent 5 minutes at 2 waterfalls, which are impressive, in an 11 hour day and that was it! The rest of the day, 10hrs and 50 minutes was spent waiting for, or sitting on, old buses and vans.
The much cheaper Bolonan plateau would have shown us villages, crafts and agriculture and been much better.

There is not much to see in Pakse itself.
There is not much to see in Pakse itself. However, it makes a good base from which to explore Southern Laos. The Bolavan Plateau is nearby for scenery and waterfalls. The Wat Phu temple complex near Champasak is a short distance away. There are some good bars/restaurants (including budget options) if you need somewhere to eat and drink on an evening. It is worth going to the Daolin, Xuan Mai or Sanga (ground floor of the Sanga hostel) restaurants if you want something on the cheaper side. Se Se Wine and Beer is a good place for somewhere to drink but their food choice is a bit limited. A lot of people seem to rate Dok Mai Lao (an Italian restaurant) but was not that impressed with it when I went - maybe I chose the wrong thing as the pizzas looked good. The Immigration Office is in Pakse, near the market in the centre, if you need to extend your visa. However, bear in mind it is only open for limited hours Monday to Friday. I was told to be there for 2pm.
Romantic colors, beautiful building wish I can visit again, a nice guesthouse near a local market, a gas station and a mall at the real center. Clean rooms, a lot of chairs to sit outside the rooms. Tina sells exceptional delicious Laotian food. The grocery store is near. You don’t have to struggle to get anything for your basics. Tuktuk taxi tour recommendations are very amazing! Tina the superstar host who helps your requests very often. Please visit heaven guesthouse for a lovely experience.
The room is spacious with a spacious bathroom. It is well designed and furnished. No glass window but shutters that open out onto the expansive garden. The food is great - Vietnamese, Thai, Lao and more. Ngoc goes out of her way to give personal attention to every guest and to make sure everything is okay and to arrange tours or tickets. Three generation Vietnamese, family with Ngoc's daughter and grandmother, residents of Laos.
This is the premier hotel in Pakse. It is literally right in the centre of the town. You have all facilities possible here, including a restaurant that opens till late night. Everything else in Pakse closes very early. The hotel also helped me in booking a 3 day trip across Wat Phou, Bolaven Plateau and Si Phan Dong. Although a bit more expensive compared to other options in Pakse, we were truly happy.
We had a great stay here and the host, Tina, is so so lovely and welcoming. This guesthouse definitely has the best vibes in Pakse! Lovely chill area and the rooms are clean, comfortable and have good Wi-Fi. Little far from the town but not a problem, especially as you can rent bikes from the property. There is the mall close by where you can buy food and snacks.
Quiet location, about a 30 minute walk or a tuk tuk ride from the centre. Room cleaned every day. Staff were really lovely and allowed us to check in early after arriving from a night bus which was much appreciated! Good breakfast each morning. Pool area was lovely and much needed in 40 degree heat! Very comfortable room. Great place to stay :-)
Excellent value for money. It's an older guesthouse with basic facilities but with a fresh lick of paint. Exceptionally clean. Firm mattress but not super -hard so comfortable. Nice area out front for good breakfast or to sit and relax and talk to fellow travellers. Very nice and helpful French and Laotian couple.
This place is just amazing. the staff makes you feel like home. The sheets smells so good, that it makes you want to stay forever! i highly recommend it to everyone who want to stay in Pakse. they let you leave your bag in the hostel for the looping, they give you tips about everything. the breakfast is amazing.
I love this hostel alot.
Everyone is so helpful and kind.
Especially the receptionist named Phoud.
I had to check out very early at 4am and my friend forgot to pay 2 bottle of beer.
Phoud help me with her own money.
I will try the way to give her back when I back to Laos at soonest.
Love from Mirror, VietNam.
The location is excellent - very close to the bus station and several great restaurants. The Hostel is super clean, all staff are very friendly and helpful. Staff arranged our ticket onward for a better price than the hotel around the corner. We can recommend it, but wouldn't want to stay in the room we had.
Intouch: "A welcoming hotel on the bank of the Mekong River - rooms were a good size, breakfast was excellent, the staff were friendly and the roof-top pool was ideal for a sunset view over the river. It was a perfect stop-off on our way through from Cambodia into central Laos."
It was a bit more expensive than most places in Laos, but you get what you pay for. Really nice and modern facilities and probably the most comfortable bed in Laos I slept in. One staff member speaks English really well and was very helpful.
Really helpful staff, they called our travel company when our tuk tuk didn't arrive and always had a smile on their face. Breakfast outside was nice. Pool is small but nice to have. Hotel is nicely decorated although showing its age.
The staff were amazing! The jeep tour was a very good option to see the Pakse loop without a bike.
The laundry smelled really nice and was quick.
The bed was really comfortable. I will recommend this hostel to everyone.
Good price- comfortable stay in Pakse! Staff were really and helpful- we left our luggage while we did the Bolaven Loop, and they also helped us to arrange transport to the airport. Would stay again!
