Laung Prabang is easily reached from Vientiane by the China/Laos high-speed train - we made our booking through 12Go Asia - simple to book with e-tickets emailed back to you.
Note: Train tickets only go on sale 3 days before the day of travel and sell out quickly - no turning up on the day and hoping to buy a ticket like you can in the Western world - planning ahead and booking early is essential.
Also note that aerosols and liquid sprays are forbidden on the train (bags are x-rayed and manually searched on entering the train station) - no spray deodorants, perfumes or insect repellents - they will be confiscated!!

The property design, attractiveness, maintenance, the swimming pool, the front desk staff, especially Chan were all terrific..Luang Prabang itself had very much to offer with the water falls, parks, temples etc etc. Restaurants were terrific as were all of the locals we met.

I loved the town of Luang Prabang!
I loved the town of Luang Prabang!
The town is just big enough to plenty of things to discover and see.
I suggest getting up early before 10 AM because it gets very hot after that. The town then becomes alive around 6PM, after the heat of the sun is gone.
I like renting a scooter to get around, but the town is easily walkable.
There are masses and masses of Chinese tourists, which can sometimes be disrespectful during the Alms Giving ceremony. I found many of them a bit disrespectful of the ceremony & turned it into a bit of a circus with cameras everywhere, shouting, talking, crossing in front of the monks. Sad. But it’s still a beautiful occasion to witness.

Luang Prabang has a unique feel, which is reflected in its status since 1995 as a UN World Heritage site. This means that the historic centre is being both preserved and renovated. The city is in a stunning location, set among mountains and at the confluence of two rivers, and has plenty of French colonial buildings. Every restaurant we went to served wonderful food, both Laotian and western, and had very friendly service. I will go back for a longer visit as soon as I can.

I enjoyed the walkable nature of the city and the ready availability of tuk tuks and other transport if needed. I enjoyed the river trip options and the fact there were some great restaurants and cafes (Popolo, Khaiphaen, Zurich Bakery) among the raft of very ordinary ones. I loved the small TAEC museum and the informative staff. The Storytelling in English was wonderful. The Chinese New Year period was very busy and some places were overcrowded. Best to avoid if possible.

Plenty of culture to visit.
Plenty of culture to visit. A UNESCO city which should not be missed. Street markets every night. Good quality food offering. Kuang Si falls are an absolute must but recommend hiring a Tuk Tuk for half a day. Better quality of ride in the back allowing you to see the scenery rather than hiring a scooter and driving on a very sketchy road.
Scooters can be hired but you need to leave your passport which is not ideal. Avoid if you can to prevent being held hostage to paying more cash in return for your passport return.
Some hotels allow use of bicycles which is more than sufficient for getting around locally. Take the ferry across the river and cycle along the side of the river on a good path to visit around 5 wats.
The Khopfa sun set cruise is great and relaxing on a high quality boat with great service.
The hotel is charming, in a wonderfully restored villa with quirky architectural details. The room was spacious, quiet and the bed very comfortable but the best thing was the staff who went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable and help with anything I needed, they were really amazing, particularly Phout who accompanied me to buy an extra suitcase. The breakfasts were varied and delicious with a great choice of local dishes. I wholeheartedly recommend this place if you are going to Luang Prabang.
This was a great little hotel choice to stay in at Luang Prabang. It has very nice rooms and a well maintained pool in it. Location wise, it is close to the night markets, cafes and restaurants. They are within 10 to 15 minutes walking distance away. My stay was made even better by Khun, the hotel manager and his staff who were excellent and friendly in arranging trips and transport to the railway station! Breakfast was excellent and they is a variety of choices you can have for it.
This is a cute little place right next to the palace and the night market. Rooms are clean and comfy. This is in the old city part of Luang Prabang, so don't expect a modern hotel. In fact, it had a nice travel lodge old-world charm to it. So if you come with the right attitude, and appreciate the budget-friendly rates, you'll really enjoy the fact that it's right in the middle of all the action, and yet quiet enough to give you some rest in between all the sightseeing.
Location was only a short walk from the centre one way and the Mekong River the other. Night market around the corner and morning vegetable market outside the front of hotel. The staff, Tom and his female helpers were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ample and taken under the umbrellas in the garden. The Luang Prabang night food and drink market was only a 5 minute walk away. BeerLao on draft in pleasant surroundings with friends is most enjoyable.
The Villa phathana hotel of the Vietnamese owner is very enthusiastic with welcome lemonade and a map of famous tourist attractions in Luang Prabang The hotel's central location is right next to the royal palace and night market, just 1 minute walk from the Mekong River. The highlight is the hotel's prime location, clean rooms, reasonable prices. we go on business trips up i go to Luang Prabang a lot . I will recommend my friends and colleagues
I have a wonderful time at Sirikili Villa Hotel! It’s clean, quiet and yet is near the town! It’s just a lovely place that we decided to extend our stay for another three more days. Will definitely have to come back to stay here again in the future. BO the front desk guy is friendly, kind and helpful in every sense. My husband had a chest infection Bo offer to take him to the clinic. A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED HOTEL IN LUANG PRABANG. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Charming boutique hotel with the most attentive staff. The front desk were happy to help with any requests and were there to drive me to the Main Street in Luang Prabang whenever I wanted. They even helped to explain to my dad (who speaks Lao) how to get to the property over the phone. The room was beautiful and a welcomed oasis. The breakfast staff were readily available for requests and overall would definitely recommend.
Very cute hotel - love the decor and how each room is themed. Excellent location for walking around Luang Prabang - right next to the night market. We did not have any issues with noise and we stayed in two rooms. - our flight was cancelled so we ended up booking an extra night after check out. The front desk was very helpful as we had to figure out new travel plans! Breakfast was also incredible each day!
The most welcoming of my stays in Luang Prabang. The owner is from the Philippines and he was a pretty low key and nice guy. Offered me and my friend a really cheap motorbike rental. Didn't even require a passport, but I think that's unusual and not to be expected all the time. The breakfast was great and the space, despite being small, encouraged people to talk to each other, which was lovely.
I would give Fides Boutique Hotel more than 5 stars if possible! The hotel is beautifully renovated, the rooms/beds are very comfortable, breakfast is delicious (pictures included) and the wifi is great. It's centrally located, easy to walk to the main parts of town or grab a tuk tuk. And the staff are wonderfully kind & helpful! Definitely recommend!
This property is just beautiful and will make you feel like youve travelledback in time.. The decor is amazing, and the pools and grounds are perfect. The rooms are also spacious. The hotel is far enough from the action to be peaceful but close enough to walk to it. We loved this property and would highly recommend it for a stay in Luang Prabang.
Steve has been a great host who speaks very well English. During the check in he provided me with a map of Luang Prabang and explained everything where to visit where to go etc. It was amazing no other hotel gave me that kind of map.
He also arranged a day tour that was amazing!
The breakfast was also great!
It is very central but still in a quiet alley. Minutes to the river, main street and night market. Breakfast was good, wifi worked good. It’s an older building with a nice balcony to sit outside the room. The room is small and cleaning needs a bit more attention. Rosie is outgoing and we enjoyed Luang Prabang.
Quiet and beautiful location in the mountains outside of Luang Prabang. They can pick you up in town and drop you off again. The owner gave us info on some activities and things to do around the area when we arrived. We only stayed for one night but would have loved to stay longer!
- Wonderful hotel at a nice location. The room was spacious, the staff was wonderful, special thanks toMr.Ben,
the breakfast was good, and the Wifi connection was strong.
I'll definitely comeback to the Villa Lakhang Thong Hotel when I'm in Luang Prabang.
Perfect location in this pleasant hotel, restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. Tom was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly, giving us lots of tips for our time in Luang Prabang. Good large room with 3 comfortable beds. Well recommended.
very recommend this hotel the location is very good. It’s near morning and night market, located at the center of Luang Prabang. The staff is very helpful. She can book the car to the Kwang-Si fall, the train station or wherever you want to go.
Amazing place to stay if visiting Luang Prabang! Walking distance to town in a quiet location. Room we stayed in was very spacious and clean! You can use their bicycles for free, breakfast was great, couldn’t recommend this hotel enough!
Lovely hotel, very good price to stay in luang Prabang and friendly staff, the hotel has very nice pool clean really chill for the day, I would come back and stay here again .
