Score from 70 reviews Very good
the location and the staff were great
food was over priced and lacked variety
Swimmingpool and the room upgrade... Many birds...your between the nature..
It's pretty fabulous and the staff team that are not front of house, are lovely helpful people.
On checking in, we were informed (in a pretty appalling way) that it was a compulsory $100 each surcharge to attend their New Year's Eve party.
Quality accommodation in a beautiful location. Friendly staff, excellent food and facilities
We book a suite with private pool. We can not get to the pool as it was full of "BATS"!!! Although I was in my honeymoon :) the hotel "manager" Mr John refused to change our room, refund the money or change to another "deluxe villa" as he lied of being fully booked were many villas as available to be booked online :(( Also, surprisingly, after checkout they asked the security to close the main gate and not allowed us to go out of the hotel. Me and my wife were lockup by the hotel staff and security and not allowed to leave as one of the small size towels was missing. We explained we have no idea where it is, however, been threaten to contact the police and forced to pay lot of money for such small towel !! The country is a nice safe place. We never experienced such a thing during our trip around Sri lanka. Shame on a five stars hotel .. Lot of insects.
Gorgeous hotel with friendly staff. Beautiful pool and environment.
No wifi to the rooms
The pool and location
In both cabins the sinks flooded , I hate to think what was in the foul water. They did change our rooms , but it was hard to brush off. The internet was very slow , even by Sri Lankan standards
Nice relaxt resorthotel with nice bungalows and beautiful gardens with lakeview. Planned to stay in Heritance Kamala, but was full. Went there for lunch, but happy we booked Amaya Lake (more than half of the price of Heritance Kamala).
The setup of the resort is great The lake view is amazing
The pool has some wired insects swimming all over it! If you have a problem with geko then you might be uncomfortable there The food prices are high
Fabulous open lobby area, pool, grassy area, beautiful Christmas decorations
Rooms are some distance from the lobby.paths not well lit. Not much to do in rainy weather. Patchy wi-fi, only accessible from lobby
The location. The room.
Staff need training to handle smooth check-out. 45 minutes to check out is not acceptable. Staff give you the feeling that they are doing you a favour by talking to you!
Overall disappointing experience, not worth the money spent. Staff not really qualified, obliging or efficient, average food with premium prices.
We were there for New Years night they put on a fantastisic show me the food was amazing
Wifi does not work but I did not have any single hotel in Sri Lanka where it worked
The location of this hotel is fab - really romantic on the lake. The food is good and there is a really wide selection at the buffets. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The massage was fantastic! Nice room with big bathroom
The chalet where we stayed is getting a bit tired and the wifi was poor in the public areas, and non existant in our room
Setting and the relaxed atmosphere Clean, wonderful to walk through the natural garden overlooking the lake especially in the morning
Poor, limited variety in buffet. Issues with TV , complicated
Lush greenery all around the resort, friendly staff, serene lakeside location on the banks of the Kandalama lake, central location to visit other landmarks in the culture triangle
No wifi in the room, weak wifi even in the lobby area, limited F&B options inside the resort
The hotel staff is very friendly, the room was luxurious especially the bathroom.
The room smelled very humid and evening dinner-buffet- was not at all refined and the food was cold. Breakfast, not included, was very expensive.
The location, facilities, staff, hotel landscape and food were excellent. Would love to stay again if visit the area in future. Would like to recommend to anyone.
Sweets and pastries of buffet breakfast.
the hotel located by the lake in very peaceful area but far away from the city center for restaurants/supermarket ect' The pool is nice and u also can make massage for extra money
Usually i don't have a lot of things That I don't like but this time I was very disappointed from the hotel facilities (old and humid smell) and not really value for the price I paid. The dinner was ok but not like I'm used to get from 4 stars hotel for 25 dollars dinner!!!
If you travelling with a car, then the location is perfect, you will find yourself right staying in the forest. The pool is great, food is good, fast check-in and check-out service
wifi is poor, worms in the room
The room was spacious and quite nice by Sri Lankan standards, although the towels did smell of mildew (quite common in Sri Lanka because I don't think heated dryers are common), and there were constantly flies in the room owing to poor weather sealing. Breakfast was very good, I have to give them that. Sri Lankan food is nothing to write home about, so it was nice to have a wide selection of Western food at breakfast, including a waffle/omelette station and the usual eggs, sausages, oatmeal, a wide selection of breads/pastries and cut fruits. Pretty much all the staff we dealt with other than the manager were quite friendly. I wouldn't stay here again though, given the manager's attitude towards his customers.
We booked the Amaya Lake on Booking.com for US$41. When we arrived at this rather out-of-the-way hotel, the manager said our rate was a mistake and they had no intention of honoring it. We could pay US$120 or book something else. I asked why, if this was a mistake and he knew it, didn't he call us or email us, as he had all our contact information. After all, we took long bus and tuk-tuk ride to get to this hotel, and we were now in the middle of nowhere with no easy or inexpensive way of leaving. The manager's response was that his relationship was with Booking, not with us, and it was their responsibility to contact us, not his. This was probably the most unprofessional thing any property manager has ever said to me, much less a 4 star hotel manager. He's forgotten that at the end of the day, the customer is the one who pays his bills, writes reviews, etc., not Booking.com. Now, he had rooms to sell us, but he insisted on getting US$120 for it. We asked why he couldn't just honor the rate, since it was actually his own mistake by setting the rates too low (which he admitted). "I would lose money" was his response. Really? The hotel had empty rooms, and an empty room brings in $0 last time I checked. How was he losing money by honoring US$41? Yes, we use electricity and water, but in Sri Lanka a night's worth of that is not going to cost $41. After a long day, we were tired and the hotel was going to gouge us to call a taxi to bring us back to Dambulla town (which is about 11km away on secondary roads). We sucked it up and paid US$110 for our room after Booking.com refused to do anything either.
Rooms / villa's are nice, with good beds. The situation next to the lake is really special, and we can advise to walk to night guard at the lakeside in the evening, maybe he will help you to spot some wildlife. Breakfast is really good, good selection, good eggs and hoppers made to order. Aryuveda treatments are good, and OK priced.
General service level is poor, tips are expected by everyone, and asking the reception 3 times to 'fix' the bathtub (just the bath plug was missing) resulted in 3 times 'yes sir we will send someone'. But in the two days, nobody came. Dinner buffet is overpriced, and actually not that specially tasty. A la carte menu is better priced, but some elements i could recognize were picked from the buffet.
Breathtaking views, amazing service- the staff are so lovely and accommodating. Good varieties in the buffet , very tasty Sri Lankan food available, Restaurant staff also very helpful. Thanks!!!
The huge garden, the mystic athmosphere at the lake, the beautiful bungalows, the friendly staff, the squirrels, the birds, the flowers, great pool area, everything! This is one of the most wonderful hotels in the world, and I have been in 81 countries
