We are fans of Art Deco and this was a beautiful example of the architecture. Its small size(7 rooms) and charming staff made it very cosy.
Well located in the middle of the Fort on a road with not too much traffic.Excellent breakfast and restaurant and great staff. We stayed in a simple room with a very comfortable bed with seating outside next to the pool.
Friendly and attentive staff location within the Fort food - you must try the Sri Lankan breakfast!!
The staff were excellent. Our sun room was very comfortable. The dinners we had at deco 44 were delicious. Great chef.
The price. Although a lovely hotel, it didn't warrant the extremely high price. The most expensive hotel we stayed in during our whole stay in Sri lanka
Great property - old colonial style, with high ceilings - lovely feeling
The room we were give was on the first floor (a suite) and was far more cramped and much less impressive than the double rooms by the poolside.
An absolutely charming property, the poolside rooms are huge with lovely high ceilings, big bathrooms and a very comfortable bed. We dined in the lawn outside to live music and excellent food. Their continental breakfast is superb with croissants and bread baked in house along with the most gorgeous strawberry preserve and orange marmalade (pity they don't sell it!).
The price is a little steep - clearly taking advantage of the tourist trade!
Staff was excellent. Pool was good. Food was good.
Bathroom had an ever present bad odor. TV system was marginal. DVD we tried to watch was flawed. Food menu was boring. Overall poor value for the money.
I went to this hotel to give myself 2 days of quiet at the end of my Sri Lanka trip, before heading home. The place was quiet, understated, genuinely soothing without being cloying over overdone. The staff were genuinely helpful without getting in the way or seeming servile (something that makes me extremely uncomfortable). My room was beautiful. I enjoyed both quick swims by the nearby sea wall, as well as quiet swims in the hotel pool, with nobody else around. The food is very good, and not egregiously priced. This place felt like a sanctuary to me. Many thanks to the staff!
This is a very overpriced property . The staff is OK . Location is OK . Do not stay in the fort area unless you want to overpay
A really special hotel. We had been staying in some big hotels and wanted to spend one night in an intimate place in Galle Fort. Deco on 44 is beautifully appointed, the furniture is charming and the colour scheme is gorgeous and has been artfully executed; the building feels really authentic and homely in the best way. The breakfast generous; best croissants and coffee on our trip and homemade jams. The staff were lovely.
We didn't have time to check out the pool!
I stay at Deco every time I visit Galle and I can't speak highly enough of this hotel. The staff are first rate, the rooms are extremely comfortable and the food is fantastic. I highly recommend Deco on 44 for people wanting a quiet and luxurious home away from home in the heart of Galle Fort.
The swimming pool. The size of the room. The comfort. The location. The friendliness and helpfulness of the manager and staff. The TUNA CHEEKS on the menu - delicious. Never had them before. All the other food we had was very good too.
The arrival was great, an early arrival was no problem, straight up to the room and porterage was excellent. Room was large, airy, clean and welcoming, ditto the bathroom. Location within the Old Fort could not have been better, quiet and easy to get around. Breakfast was always looked forward to, efficient and quick table service. Two dinner meals, one excellent the other not so. Pool was quiet and secluded at the end of the day. Turn down service a real treat, amusing too. Overall the service was excellent and the building is revived colonial with a hint of art deco - great all round.
We stayed in the Sun room, an altogether lovely room but the bedstead creaked like an old man's knees going uphill, apart from that and un uninspiring 2nd evening meal the stay could not have been faulted, we would stay again.
Was more expensive than Galle Face in Colombo or Leela Palace in Chennai
Spacious rooms, attention to detail. Food was delicious, pool area relaxing. Staff were marvellous. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Everything was great. Food fresh and interesting menu Walking out into swimming pool in the morning. Art Deco furniture
Only thing was no twin beds so one of us had a smaller bed. However it was comfortable. Suggest they invest in two large singles that go to a kingsize as more people re travelling as friends together.
Location was very good as it was right at the center of Galle old fort. The staff were very helpful and kind, as they have prepared us a lovely bed making upon our check-in. Your room will be cleaned twice a day, just like a five star hotel.
We do not have any complaints with the hotel itself, but when we were walking around the city, a man who named Senil the chef of this hotel (somehow he knew that we stayed at Deco n 44, but we were unsure if he really worked for the hotel), talked to us and brought us to "government shop" where they sold jems and souvenirs overpriced. We did not buy anything, but we felt very uncomfortabl and difficult to leave the place. In addition, this shop was located outside the fort, and took us time to get back to the hotel.
Pool, cleanliness, rooms
Next door is a building site so was noisy at times
Lovely staff and rooms
Perfectly located Amazing staff Excellent Room
Decco on 44 is a fabulous boutique hotel inside the fort in Galle, so is very well located -being within easy walking distance of the bastions, cafés, restaurants and places of interest. The building itself is a beautiful old mansion carefully and well restored with excellent fittings and well proportioned rooms. The housekeepers do an excellent job in keeping a high standard in the rooms and have a lovely eye for detail especially in the turndowns. All staff are proud of their workplace and it shows in their attitude to the guests. Always pleasant and with personable professional service our 4 day stay here was most enjoyable. Food was excellent and sitting on the restaurant verandah watching the world go by was one of our daily highlights.
Staff was extremely friendly and helpful! Housekeeping made wonderful bed arrangements. Really appreciated the fabulous service.
Nice staff and very considerate.
Food/drink in the hotel is much more expensive compared to restaurants around.
The staff were so friendly, even giving the children little gifts, the room was beautiful with brilliant aircon. The food was some of the best we've had in Sri Lanka. Great pool area and perfect location overall!
Fabulous Art Deco setting with large comfortable rooms where everything is thought of and works well. The pool was very welcome as it gets pretty hot in Galle Fort. Don't be put off by the slightly strange breakfast menu - just ask for whatever combination you want and it will be beautifully prepared.
If you eat in the restaurant, be prepared for serenading! Not to our taste as it was quite intrusive.
