Lovely guesthouse in the middle of a lush green jungle setting. Lady owner friendly and helpful, all staff attentive but not intrusive. Guesthouse is about ten minutes walk from kandy centre, and after a busy days sight seeing it's good to know you're returning to the relative peace and quiet of forest glen. Breakfast was served at a time of our choosing and was fresh and filing. We would without a doubt stay at forest glen again should we ever be in the area, and would recommend to others.
Intermittent wi-fi signal, tended to work in two hour bursts. Driver found it difficult to locate from airport
Position, clean and very kind staff and "boss". Just away froma the busy center of kandy but close to the city (10 minutes walking)
Zen location despite need for tuk tuk if returning late in the day. Calm during the day. Desperate effort to clean rooms, but I suspect acutely understaffed. Hence, their early start.
Internet connection non existence in room, noise in the early part of the morning. Tuk tuk driver attached to hotel overpricing, I guess, due to monopole. However, unfair!! Local tuk tuks unfamiliar with hotel, difficult to indicate direction on those dark, unlit hills.
we were allowed to check in earlier than the official check-in time. there was fruit with the breakfast + you could choose your style of eggs (although breakfast was the ordinary toast, butter and jam) location: beautiful surroundings in the hills, not too far from te city (you can reach it on foot, although not recommended with luggage).
the room was very humid (clothes which you hang up in the room got clammy) + curtains had stains from mould. the room also smelled because of the mould. we made a road trip in Sri Lanka and this was one of the worst rooms we got. room was also outdated (e.g. old, dirty light-switches). it took quite some time before the shower had hot water. sheets were not clean and the bed was very hard. price: we were travelling on a budget and this was our most expensive room. During our road trip, we paid less for better rooms elsewhere. However, this is perhaps due to the timing (during the Esala Perahera). I have no idea of rates during other periods, maybe they are more realistic then? during breakfast, the owner told us that she needed our room early for other customers: luckily, we were having breakfast at 8.00 and were already packed to leave (what would she have done if we were still sleeping? she did not ask us this the evening before, although she greeted us goodnight). the breakfast room is too small. I was still enjoying my last bites when they suddenly cleared our table for a family that wanted breakfast. I found this very rude. they could at least have asked if we had finished eating. I could not even drink up my tea. they did not control our booking and names when checking in. it was only when we checked out that the owner asked us which rate booking.com had given us. this seems rather weird, since other pre-booked hotels confirmed prices when checking in. This can lead to misunderstandings (as we could witness with other customers that were checking out).
wildlife around hotel including monkeys, boar, huge, deer, frult bats, kingfishers etc friendly and helpful host great breakfasts
- top location!! lovely quiet place in the forest to relax. With the Tuk Tuk you are in 5 minutes in the city center. - the room we had was just great (2nd floor) with a very nice view. - very nice terrace to chill-out having a cup of tea and enjoying the silence of the forest. - Indra is just lovely and took care of us when my boyfriend got sick.
Excellent location & setting with a back drop of Udawattakele Sanctuary (5 minute walk). It is in close proximity to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and to town (10 minutes walk). The rooms were large & clean. Delicious home cooked Sri Lankan meals were available in the evening. The staff were very helpful. It was a lovely, quiet, peaceful location to return to after a busy day. We are happy to recommend Forest Glen.
The location, in a quiet forest away from the city buzz.
Very poor service, cold welcome, no flexible hours for breakfast, curfew at 10pm, thin walls and ceiling (bad noise insulation) - our worst accommodation experience in Sri Lanka.
Kandy is a noisy city, this is out of the noise next to the jungle but you can walk 4 minutes to downtown. The food is really superb and the lady owner speaks perfect english. Reasonably priced
not much but don't expect 5 stars rooms
The location is incredible, Just ten minutes to walk from the town centre, the place gives you the feeling of being deep in the jungle. No smog and the only sounds are the singing of birds and the calls of monkeys and geccos. The owner is most friendly and helpful, apart from that a brilliant cook. Absolutely recommendable!!!
convieniently close to the city, but far away from the noise and hassle.
Nice quiet location although close to the city. Very good food in the evening. The owner Indra very helpful. Comfortable and relaxing.
No problems with anything really
Really nice staff, good language skills. Nice and quiet location, but within reach of town
No direct view of Kandy
Tasty food. A home away from home.
