The host picked me up from the railway station and charged nothing for this service. He is a nice man and offered me to have dinner with him also. On request, he gave me a soap, towel and later a mosquito coil. The room was bigger than an average room. The bathroom size was also bigger then average.

The room did not have a fan. I was feeling hot when I arrived at Haniffas Holiday Bangalow. I could not sleep the whole night because of no fan. I sent an SMS to the host at 3:38 a.m. but he was sleeping then. I was not expecting an air conditioner (AC) but at least the room must have had a ceiling fan even if the room rate is only US $13 per night. When I asked this to the host, he replied we don't have fans here. He meant to say the weather is so nice that he didn't purchase a fan for the guest room. I was not satisfied by the answer. The weather was hot enough for me because when I took a shower, I did not feel cold using cold water as there was no hot water facility in the bathroom. Also there were so many mosquitoes, ants and one lizard in the room and many ants and mosquitoes in the bathroom. Mosquitoes bit me at many places on my body while I was using the bathroom. There was a mosquitoes net on the bed but one mosquito got inside the net and started biting me. The host gave me the mosquito coil when I asked him and I was safe on the bed only but not in the bathroom. I want to advise the whole Sri Lankan people to start using window net or fly proof window as we are using this in Pakistan for the past 25 years. The idea of having a net over the bed is not satisfactory. What if someone has to go to the bathroom? The moment he comes out of the net, he is attacked by 100 mosquitoes. When he is in the bathroom he is again attacked by 200 mosquitoes. The bedroom and bathroom windows must have a fly proof net window with rubber line at the corners. Only air can go outside and come inside. Mosquitoes, flies, ants, lizards can't cross the window net. This experiment has been very successful in Pakistan. Please start this in Sri Lanka.

Clean rooms. Wonderfull views. Relaxing atmosphere. Good location (close to King Garden, Kandy andBuddha Tooth Temple). Very friendly host. Cheap. Best price/quality ratio I have ever seen. Owner (his name is Hassan) also organized very good and not expensive trips for me to Sigirya and Dambulla, and then to Galle.

Although outside Kandy, the hotel is positioned in the near environment of a street with some shops and places to eat (local restaurants).

The hotel uses several booking-sites. So even if you get a confirmation from that you booked the room, it is not sure that a room is available. Instead of calling or emailing you they wait. So when we arrived (early evening) it seems no room was available, while they already knew that the day before. On our request they helped us finding another place. Which was a nice room in itself and had friendly staff, but it was far away from everything.

It was a pleasure to stay at this place. Hassan and his family are very friendly and offer you a enjoyable and relaxing homestay. Hassan is very communicative and can tell you a lot of interesting stories about Sri Lanka. The rooms are clean, comfortable and there is everything you need. Besides the food is excellent.

The Haniffas Holiday Bungalow is a guesthouse with a lot of personality - its owner's, Hassan. You may like it or not for this reason. The place is ~10' away from Peradeniya railway station, 1 stop before Kandy. The bungalows are meters away from the owner's house. Don't expect what you see in the pictures- the place is not in the middle of a jungle and the surroundings are those of a sprawling urban area. We spent 2 nights there with conflicting feelings. It's a welcoming place, that feels human. The food is excellent, possibly the best we had in SL. Yet the owner's heavy selling of tours, services and products is exhausting. The day tour is a tourist scam: elephants in chain, spice garden with low grade products sold at a premium. The tea factory is ok, though again with overpriced products and possibly better places to see in Ella area. Then as everywhere in Sri Lanka, it's a constant push for tuk tuks, batics, etc. All in all - don't go there if you need a rest and do go if you want good food and can manage a local Jack Welsh on your back.

Limited cleanliness. I was eaten by bed bugs (despite the mosquito net), or was it my 1st allergic reaction to a bed? Noisy rooms. Walls are paper thin. Talkative neighbours will kill your night. The bathrooms were leaking and, despite efforts, kept on dripping all night. Owner's heavy push for organized attractions. No wifi.
