Nothing..!! very bad
I loved the hostel...great staff so friendly...felt at home:)...food was very tasty...loved it so much came back to kandy several times!....highly recommend this place:)
The Tuk-Tuk driver, Indika, will take you anywhere and for a great price. He is charming and has great information about the places you go to. The lady who is running the hostel, Kanthi, is such a sweet woman. She really takes care of you. The place is alway clean. She is always cooking something yummy.
Khanti and Indika are the best, managing Kandy Down Town in a way that makes guests feel right at home, while at the same time maintaining very high standards. The place is spacious, clean, well cared for, and comfortable. Khanti cooked up some fabulous meals using local foods like jackfruit, gotu kola, pumpkin, and others. Delicious, healthy, and at great prices. Kandy Down Town is also conducive to meeting other backpackers. We enjoyed exchanging stories while looking out over the back garden and a bit of forest. Being able to do yoga on the veranda in the mornings was great, too. The wifi was better than most places I've stayed at. Indika showed us the sights at very reasonable tuk tuk rates, and was always helpful. Staying here really enhanced my time in Kandy, and I consider the folks here to be friends, not just hosts.
This hostel was good for meeting other guests. It is big with lots of communal areas so very sociable.
The place wasn't particularly clean or well-maintained but it was acceptable.
great staff value trips from the hostel great value food lovely atmosphere
Warm and friendly staff. Both Kanthi and Indika were excellent. Always helpful and very understanding. Peaceful location. Pretty much everything you need nearby.
I stayed there for 1 night and I wished I have more day to stay there. The manager is a nice lady and the staff, Indica are really helpful. He took me to Dance Performance & Tea Museum with his Tuk Tuk with reasonable price. The atmosfer is really nice, made you feel like almost home.
It's a bit far from city
Beautiful terrace where you can enjoy the sounds of nature while the first shafts of sunlight touch your face. I stayed there for 3 nights and it's perfect to calm down. The housekeeper is really nice and they offer you affordable tuktuk rides. On my 3-week-backpack-trip in Sri Lanka this was the place, where I met the most amusing people. There were some guys, who stayed 3 weeks her, so they were really easy going and they already knew some good places in Kandy. For example the restaurant in front of the tunnel.
Breakfast wasn't large enough for me, so in addition I bought some fruits at the market.
Pleasent atmospere. Good price. Attentive and caring personnel. It's good hotel for undemanding to comfort backpackers.
Sometimes loud talks on the balcony interfered with sleep. Can be problems with wi-fi due to high load (at the evening/weekend).
Staff,house,location,breakfast,WiFi,common area,general atmoshere,price
Friendly and welcoming Clean room and facilities
Hostel over booked Shared bathroom Situated in hill, no view and walk to the center quite depleasant Way too expensive, prices increase during the festival Esala Perahera
Very peacefull place
..to stay in Kandy.....modest hostel, but all clean.Owner very nice+helpful, good breakfast...the price is unbeatable..
Be aware (for solo female, travellers)that the position of the hostel is very isolated up the hill...owner advices yo not to walk down(20min)to the city after 7pm,as it might be "dangerous"..+you can't get any tuktuk at night...so you are kind of trapped.... (the road is dark, there is a dark tunnel to pass+there are stray dogs..)..but if you are in 2-3..very good+cheap place
Myself & my 11 yr old daughter stayed in the hostel for 4 nights. The manager was so friendly & helpful- she gave us our choice of rooms, made sure we had every comfort possible and she gave us useful tips on where to go and how much we should expect to pay. She even brought us in fruits out of her own garden. She made our stay in the Kandy Downtown hostel a memorable one.
The down town was a good little hostel about 2 minutes toktok out of the city centre. The lady there was lovely and more than willing to help us out. Bedrooms were basic but good
really nice an good staff.. friendly
It doesnt make sence to stay over the hill and have to pay a expensive tuk tuk to get there. I think the location is not the best one because you are far away of the local transport
CUDOWNIE! najlepsze miejsce w miescie!! i najtansze! that was AMAZING really helpful peronel, great dorms and price, tasty food, good location, chillout!
The staff were very kind and helpful as well as speaking fluent English. Clean, and central. Have since stayed at the Sri Lankan hostel at Negombo and I only knew of this hostel as the warden at Kandy was former warden at Negombo
Could have done with a shared bathroom per dormitory rather than a shared dormitory between two dormitories
It isn't a hostel but a villa on three level, with many room, balcony and garden; Is good for group. The Villa is sorrounded by greenery. The Staff-boy is friendly and useful, a good person. Breakfast minimal but with egg. Is possible to cook. I could paid with us dollar. SMarket at 300mt Railway station at 2.1 km On the night the only sounds are those of the forest.
Lack of organisation (they don't know of my booking/arrive). Old Furniture, it's a villa but without owner and none maintenance. WiFi bad. The router is old and the provider blocked some site/port. A few plug around the bed for recharge the phone/tablet (but the boy give me a cord). Lot mosquito (some bed have the net). In the evening is necessary close all the door because there are many flying insects.
Great place to meet fellow travellers. Good Wifi. Supermarket nearby. Good value for money
It's a good place to stay and meet People. Staff is really nice and helpful, in my experience all of the hostels of this chain are good!
The Kandy Down Town Hostel is not so easy to find, as there is no sign or name on the house. Just watch out for the number of the house!
average hostel, good price and for such money good choise for staying in Kandy, wi-fi is ok, bathroom outside the room, but clean and with hot water, overally good choice, not busy road, so silence in the morning,
definitely location, it is far from city center, if you want restaurants and schops, you must go by tuk tuk (150 R), maybe it is bad, they dont offer breakfast, but supermarket is not far (10 min)
Price. This meant it was occupied by other travellers
WiFi slow at times
Really great atmosphere met some great people. The staff didn't speak great English but they were helpful. They were present but not overbearing. The kitchen was great facility. Lots of info sheets and space.
only downfall of this place was that the WiFi was not working. The first day was great but days following it was not connecting. Would be nice for sharper knives.
