Simle but clean and nice accomodation sufficient for two night. I can recomended Ronnie, tuk tuk driver, who took care about my trips.
One young boy was very helpful but everyone else just stood around and watched him hustle. Breakfast was alright.
There were tons of ants and two really long worms in the bathroom and the shower was a joke - barely a trickle. There is construction going on next door so we were woken up very harshly around 7am. The dinner was bland and overpriced.
Staff was rude and unhelpful, doors did not close properly, opposite of huge construction site. Don't go there
Lovely wooden terrace area for relaxıng and also another one underneath wıth restaurant. Room was large and comfortable. Number 216
Wonderful guesthouse, good food, nice terrace
Loud construction work right in front of the guesthouse until 2 AM
Staff is helpful.
Big buildingprojekt is running in front of the hotel.
This is not a hotel but an extremely overpriced hostel: the rooms are filthy, the appliances are routinely out of order and there is no service to speak of (it took staff a staggering 5 hours to get us a clean set of towels). If you can stay elsewhere, please do!
Very bad staff, also charged me 5 % extra for paying by credit card, whereas internationally its never like that, at the most 2.5% extra. The hotel's fixed tuk tuk driver was threatening and very rude. Location bad, and breakfast is very minimal.
During the Kandy Esale Perahera this was the only budget hotel still available within walking distance (15 minutes!) to the Kandy city centre.
The hotel description is completely misleading. It is indeed close to the Tooth Relic Temple, but in fact on the other side of the lake, meaning that in reality you need over 3km rather than the short distance advertised to reach it (unless you're willing to swim across the lake). Because I went during the Esale Perahera, this hotel was stupidly overpriced. It was probably the worst value for money I have ever encountered with hotels. Furthermore, discussing with other travelers led me to discover that there is no consistency in the price scheme as many negotiate far lower prices or were misled to higher prices still. The hotel is basic to say the least. No a/c and food is disappointing. Personally, I have stayed in better hostels. However, I noticed that Kandy appears to offer a poor standard of accommodation at the lower end of the budget scale (which for me was approx $50 a night +/- $30 : a price range with which I was able to secure very decent accommodation elsewhere). Some other guests I met, came to Hotel Mango Garden after some horror stories elsewhere. I likely experienced an inflated price period due to the perahara festival, but nonetheless, this was a hotel I would never recommend. I would strongly advise researching other areas and considering staying outside of Kandy too as tuk tuks are cheap and the city itself can be visited easily in one day. There are very nice alternative hotels in Kandy but at the time I was there, these were extremely expensive or unavailable. Perhaps outside the perahera (which is fantastic, by the way) one might have better luck. Good luck looking for accommodation elsewhere and enjoy Kandy and Sri Lanka!
