AC didnt work in the room Room was very old and had not been maintained for a while. For what you pay for it was not great v alue for money

we liked the new year day traditional table. the beachside fish food was ok for the veiw....but the dishonesty of servings was notred n told clearly.they apologised....but now we know how they cheat the suddahs.we actually were out there to do a review nbring our importnt suddah guests...but .. thnks the hotel was ok

we gave an envelope to post the day we left at the desk n one of the staff took over the errand as there was no one at the counter.the man was a uniform beige color worker...honest person no doubt.i told him there is no cash in d envep.just to post it to kandy .. to mr jayasekera asap.we vacated that same time. mail has not been rec....why .thnks mrs n fernando.

Mt Lavinia is an experience. The hotel rooms in the old section are a little tied, and wow what could they do if they spent a bit money! (I stayed in a delux room). That aside. The rooms were clean and comfortable and had everything you needed, and the view was wow! The service at the hotel is excellent the areas around the pool and at the beach are fabulous, especially at dusk with the sun setting and the candles being lit. Totally worth a visit. This history the views the service, just lovely. So pleased I stayed. Just $4 into town by took took, (15-20mins). Buffet breakfasts, great, as well as the buffet dinners which are really good value, just don't eat too much!

I used the spa, which was very nice, the treatment relaxing. It was expensive I thought in relation to everything else in sri lanka. Plus they tried to overcharge me by around 8 percent. Only after question thier calulation several time did the re calcuate the approprate price. There are lots of Crows. Reminds me of Alfered Hitchcocks the birds, especailly the noise they make. Having said that they were very interesting to watch, so not really a negative.

Pool facilities looked nice. Serve decent espresso coffee. Travel desk were helpful and friendly.

Reception staff unable to locate our booking and initially would not accept our credit card because it was was a 'debit' card combined with a credit card. Checkin took a very long time. Our room smelled mould and the bathroom was past it's due by date - stained and unpleasant. Bed was hard and uncomfortable. Can't recommend this hotel.

The location of the Mount Lavinia hotel cannot be beaten; right on the beach and yet only a short journey into Colombo. The food was excellent in the restaurant, bar & at the beach. I had a massage at the spa which was lovely, it's beachside so you can hear the waves, extremely relaxing. We also used the travel desk & the staff were very helpful & made good recommendations.

My only complaint was the WiFi which wasn't available on my frist day & was then very slow.

The comfort, service, location (quiet and relaxing), views of the ocean, breakfast and the efficiency of all staff.

Location. The ocean view room, the governor terrace restaurant, the lobby from where you can see lovely view of Indian ocean and the skyline of Colombo city. The history of love story of the British Governor and the lady Luvania attached with this Hotel is really interesting. All the staffs are always in smiling face.The sea food restaurant at the beach is very good. The Chef Mr. Ranga is really good to provide fresh fish menu.The food in main restaurant also very delicious.

The toilet. I feel it should be improved in the interior design, the lighting.

Too many chiefs. Not enough Indians, or Sri Lankans anyway Horrible room this time (452) after a really nice one (127) last time. Very expensive airport taxi.

Good Hotels in Sri Lanka are not cheap and it is worth what you pay when compared to cheaper Hotels. Mount Lavinia was superb in all aspects. It takes about 80 minutes from the airport and I would advise anyone against driving themselves. Always hire a car with a driver, otherwise you will come back a nervous wreck! Mount Lavinia has an excellent beach on which to sunbathe with a nice swimming pool with loungers. It is a popular wedding venue but this did not affect our stay. It was rather nice to experience the different types of ceremonies performed in the hotel grounds. Yalla is about 6 hours by road along the coast unless you take the new motorway which reduces travelling time by 1 hour and costs about 400 rupees (£2). Travelling can be quite exhausting and this hotel is an ideal place at which to just relax. There are several excellent restaurants within a short distance. Make sure you book a sea facing room otherwise you will be overlooking the railway line which runs behind the hotel and experience some noise. The noise is not noticeable elsewhere.

Good terrace area, seafood cove by far the best restaurant..seems to be well kept secret!

Rooms in newer wing are a bit grim to get to..

It was a good place to stay. And without the fact that I felt that I was mislead with the bill, I would have been positive.

The amount of the bill was not correct. I booked for 221 euro, and I payed 272. An I could discuss on it.

Where do i start, For what i paid it was terrible value for money. Tv reception was horrible! Every morning i herd banging above my room from the breakfeast service. For the price the food was bad. Value for money one of the worst hotels i have stayed in.

Its wonderful hotel,Start from we arrive till we departure so far nothing can complained about. The Food was nice ( The Buffet is got variety of food ), the service most of the staff was friendly and helpful, the beautiful view, The room that we stay I love it with with nice beach and ocean view even can see when the train was passing by. You can still look and walk around the hotel and the beach. So many restaurant or beach bar along the way to just stay relax and have lunch option. Even during our stay there is " Pooya " Festival, But the Front Office staff was doing great job to make every guest feel welcome and cant leave without say good bye. Definitely we love to be back again.

hard to say but the " Egg Hoppers" Station could be do better and fast service to avoid long queue :) other than that the Breakfast was delicious and nice

Beautiful, colonial hotel, steeped in history and tradition. Wonderful location overlooking the beach and sea. Very clean, very comfortable with wonderful rooms and bathrooms. The Guvernors dining room is especially a highlight.

Had an isolated problem with one unfriendly, rude member of staff one lunchtime, serving next to the pool. Wifi isn't free to redidents - it totally should be at a hotel of this class and cost .

This is an excellent hotel with a worldwide reputation for class and service. The hotel lived up to its reputation in providing a great service combined with style and comfort. The location of the hotel is ideal for a beach holiday close to Colombo. The staff were magnificent in the way they went about their business in trying to meet customer needs.

There is very little wrong with this hotel. On a humorous note, we were looking for a bottle opener in the room for a while only to be told that it was in the bathroom ! We discovered it fixed to the sink next to the toilet seat presumably for the use of the guests during their deliberations while sitting on the toilet !

I have chosen this hotel due to it's architecture ( old english castle, staying on the coast of the gulf). Rooms are pretty big, nice view on the ocean from the window, food is very nice. If you like "old" style, this hotel is obviously for you

Service is extremely poor for the 4* hotel. Check-in is at 2 pm. But we waited for additional 20 minutes to be accommodated finally. Considering the fact that this hotel is located near sand beach, I think that room need to be cleaned at least 2 time per day, but we stayed there for 1 night, and during this period of time nobody cleaned our room. Service is not good at all - very lazy. slowly and usually not friendly.

Excellent Location and the ocean view from the room was lovely! Nice private beach and a huge spread for breakfast :) Overall, Great location and superb food!

We went during Christmas and had to attend the X-mas eve buffet which was Mandatory. They charged us $100 per head and I really think it is way too much..
