“ Lovely grounds! Feels like you're in a sanctuary of green, relaxed, mountainside. Fair sized pool. Rooms are well designed with a lovely view (we had the superior room in the new block). Breakfast was standard, but dinner/lunch was amazing! One of the best meals we had in Sri Lanka! Staff are friendly, and there were some thoughtful touches. ”

Built around an historical Dutch colonial mansion this hotel has a warm rustic atmosphere with very friendly and helpful staff. The comfortable spacious rooms have been well appointed to modern standards. Although the food needs to be ordered in advance the kitchen produces good traditional and international meals. The well run spa offers a wide range of ayurvedic massage. Located about 15 minutes drive from the historic fort at Galle and within walking distance of beaches it is a good place to chill out for a few days.

Old time colonial feel in a tranquil village atmosphere.A Walk around the property is more relaxing than walking on the beach.A Really comfortable place with a highly attending staff. The owners young daughter takes special care of the guests. For Hindu Mythology buffs ..this is the closest you will stay to the Sanjeevni mountain ever.Woodland trails from the back of the property take you to exotic beaches.Just the place you want to be to forget the humdrum of the city and beeps of your black berry.

Lovely grounds! Location in some respects is lovely, beacuse of the setting. But there is a 2 minute walk along the main rd to get to the path down to the beach (further 6 mins) and the main rd is a loud, dirty, hair-raising walk that feels much longer! I had a traditional Ayurvedic massage and didn't feel it was great value for money. There was an overflow pipe in our shower that would drip all night, which meant we had to wear earplugs.

Room was clean and reasonably comfortable. Good pool. We had one of the older rooms which was a little dark and furniture was shabby. More soft seating around the pool/bar would be nice.

The staff were very eager to please and always polite. Just far enough away from Beach which is only a 5-10 minute walk Had to wait an awful long time for food in the evening which when it arrived was not great. They do need to address this since other than that Staff could not do enough for you

The large pool. The upgraded room's view. The reception staff. The dark dinning room and broken glass topped tables with stale food embedded in them and screwed up dirty table mats. The room that we had the first night that smelled damp and had a terrace that could not be used because of the overgrown tree. The central outdoor area that was costantly littered with dried bamboo leaves, the small pool that was more of a pond for the ducks and the fact that the lovely flowers of any plants worth retaining that they had were cut for putting on bebs and decorating public areas. The food we had the first night was poor and after seing the kitchens at breakfast we did not eat there again

Food and staff were wonderful. In fact we left our kettle by mistake and a member of staff has brought it to us at our new hotel a few miles away! The swimming pools were not clean and no pump was used. This is not hygienic and would deter most Europeans from using them.

Nothing except it was an old style hotel but run down! Reasonably well located but not near beach. 'Sorry No', Sorry cannot'! This was the attitude of the reception staff that seemed to be in charge! Double room was 2 single mattresses pushed together. Thin towels non absorbent. No toiletries.Moldy rooms infested with mosquitoes. No bottled water in room.No extra towels for pool. Did not change towels daily. No blanket or extra sheet avail when I requested when I was cold. Rooms not cleaned.Terrible pillows & transparent sheet. No hot water in afternoons, o'head fan did not work. Awful food & took 35 mins(no other customers) for pot of coffee & sandwiches that were not edible, except the curd was brilliant as it is everywhere in Sri Lanka.Could not open the windows for ventilation & it was rainy & humid & damp, seemed to be nailed shut & window sills moldy dust with gecko poo. No upgrading on this magnificent old building. Waiting staff not supervised, but they tried.Massage was rubbing with oil & nothing else.Families liked it because reception staff 'fawned' over their kids. They r once in lifetime or once per year travelers. I am a 'seasoned' traveler, espec south east Asia..this was a very bad experience.I Live in Cambodia. Pool only 9am- 6pm?Reception staff always late to start & so rude & always said No! This place has so much potential & is neglected & run down.Electricity out a lot no candles provided or apology or explanation. This was a terrible stay at a potentially brilliant hotel. Sack the managers & staff, spend some money on upgrade& train the waiters, it could work...i doubt it will happen!

Good location close to the beach (though slightly far out from Galle Fort). Friendly staff and good breakfast. The room we were in was in the older-looking wing, which is in need of a bit of renovation. Also, the power went out during the night so we were stuck in the dark with little ventilation (couldn't open the windows and too dark to see anyway!). There was very heavy rain on our second night there, which led to flooding of the path from our room to the main area for breakfast.
