The old charm and historic character of the hotel The live music whilst dining The historic bar near the pool
some rooms can be noisy near the road poor wifi access in most rooms service is variable
excellent location, nice breakfast, great rooms with such a great history, helping staff, Mr. Sanjay, the front office manager was very helpful. I will recommend this hotel for any kind of travellers to kandy. Still recollects the beautiful Kandy lake view room. the study room inside... very thing was so good
being a history hotel the management like the traditional style of electrical switches. toilet needs to be bit more maintained. other wise things are ecellent
the building, the location,the breakfast!
bathroom,and some kind of details..
old hotel which need renovation
The location and the historic building
We requested a quiet room more than 3 months in advance and nevertheless we were given a room facing the street in the 2nd floor. It was terribly noisy, and also the customers were very noisy. Impossible to rest
receptionists not very profesional
Historical building and interiors, The staff, The location
A bit noisy at night if windows are left open in the bedrooms.
The location of the hotel is very convenient to get around Kandy city. The Hotel it self is a colonial type building which is nice.
Beds need to be bigger in Double rooms
Location Colonial charm
Old Tired Noisy rooms next to road
Nice location in the city center. Dinner in the hotel's restaurant is very good and not expensive.
It was a bit noisy... many small children running around.
The style of the hotel and the location
santiair and bed
The history of the hotel and the location is perfect.
Very slow check in, facilities r all very old.
Very good location. Nice room. Good restaurant.
Wi-fi only in the lobby. We booked a tour to the elephant orphanage for 50 dollars (for 2 persons). They gave us the impression that we booked a full day trip with everything included, but unfortunately it was just a taxi. We only wanted to go to the orphanage but the driver first dropped us off at a spice garden. Then we went to the elephant orphanage where we had to pay an entrance fee. After that he dropped us off at a botanical garden that also has an entrance fee. We didn't like the fact that the hotel gave us the impression we booked a tour, but it was just an expensive taxi. So if you want to book a tour, make sure you find out what is included!
Location is the only you get that works for this hotel. It has a nice colonial feel to it but that's about it
The room was bare.. Bed was very uncomfortable.. Hotel is dank and has a dusty lingering smell to it.. Over priced for the value..
The Queen's Hotel is a reminder of what colonial splendour and comfort was all about. The hotel has managed to update, a bit, while maintaining aspects of its past glory. It is not a modern hotel, but that is much of its charm. Great staff.
room is big, location is quite good, breakfast the fresh fruit juice is nice
the first room they gave to us had a leaking ceiling, when the upstairs ppl taking showing our room is raining. we requested to change the room, at the beginning they said it's full, then I asked for discount, end up they found an empty room. furniture are old , a bit dark in the room
location -it is old , with atmosphere, and that is what you get. So also doors with 5 cm opening between the door frame and the door. We had a good price quality rate so we were alright.
In the night the street noise goes down. But we had a bunch of street workers that started at 11 PM until 5 AM. With big drills besides our room. Fortunately we could change. A helpfull staff (but they must have known that is would start in the first place).
The bar area has a nice colonial atmosphere; good service The dinner buffet had a good variety of choices Great location on the lake and next to the Temple Good travel counter
I requested a quiet room lakeside but traffic noise started at 0630 and there's no double glazing; Our room was a long walk from the main area and 3 flights of stairs - avoid room 325; Our room was very tired, windows didn't close properly and bathroom in much need of decoration
Excellent location, Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth) and Kandy lake are just across the street. If you love old charmed buildings, this is the place to stay.
It is in a great location next to the lake and only a few minutes Tuk Tuk ride from the train station. The hotel lobby, garden and bar provide a calming escape from the hustle and bustle outside. The rooms are very clean, large and comfortable with a fan and a/c. They are, as expected, very "old colonial" in style. (Do not stay here if you require modern facilities.) The TV works, the shower is hot (most of the time) and they do provide a safety box for valuables. The swimming pool was large, clean and warm. (Although I only dipped my toe in!) It's likely you won't find time to use it as your days will be filled with other things. Our room was overlooking the pool, we couldn't hear the road/traffic at all. The only noise we could hear was a large group of Chinese tourists shouting in the hallways every morning! I'm vegetarian and there was plenty for me at breakfast: fresh fruit, whole meal brown toast (a rare thing to find anywhere in Asia!), eggs, baked beans, porridge, cheese, salad, yogurt etc (also on offer was traditional Sri Lankan curries and bacon/sausages). The housekeeping, bar and reception staff were very friendly and helpful.
We were almost completely satisfied with our stay until the final morning... 27% (VAT, city tax and service charge) will be added to your final bill. That is a a lot extra! For us another $50usd that we weren't expecting to spend. Also the breakfast buffet which on other days had been good, was covered in flies and ants and all the tables were dirty. (I think they don't change the table cloths from dinner the night before - so when do they change them?) The older guy who is on the tours desk is extremely rude! If you aren't going to definitely book something with them then don't bother to try and ask for any recommendations or help because you will be rudely dismissed. Queen's Hotel seems to market itself as a high end hotel however I would not give it more than 3 stars.
