Score from 34 reviews Good
The colonial decor of the building was very nice, and there was lots of historical information within the building. The staff were attentive and helpful, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious.
My critism is the the shower heads were pretty awful and didn't direct the water down into the bathroom, resulting in water going everywhere!
The hotel was beautiful. The meals were fabulous.
The mattress could have been more comfortable.
Historical ambience Great buffet dinner
I was quoted 138 dollars for two nights but when I checked in found out the hotel had already charged my visa 175 dollars. With additional service fees ans taxes that where hidden in the fine print. I think thi is deceptive and unethical. I will not stay here again.
location and tradition
Polished wood , chandeliers, caged lift, friendly staff, great location, pool.
The hotel is centrally located and close to the Tooth Temple and the architecture is great.
A change in management would do good I guess as the present one doesn't seem to realize or care that they can make the hotel world class by just making few changes here and there in the hotel rooms.
-Very good location close to the Kandy lake and temple. -Nice staff, but not really good at English
-Breakfast is lack of choice, and not taste well.
The quaintness and sense of history. The location and frontage to the lake. We had balcony. The Restaurant service was good.
The Toilet was descript. seriously needs to be spruced up and upgraded in classy furnishing. Wash basin , mirrors faucets etc. The Plumbing leaves much to be desired. low pressure in the health faucet, Old fashioned wash basin which could be picked up and carried away ! Very bad drainage, the water spread into the room.
location and the building itself
the room is very dark and strong smell of insecticide
They can do better than this.
- old-fashioned lift (although it's sort of new one. built by OLIS) - fascinating passages and old furniture - the pool is good enough - local band who sings for you while you're having a dinner - a bat that follows you on the way to the pool and afterwords suddenly dies... - breakfast usually do the best - close proximity to the city's temple - friendly staff
- old fixtures. - tired - shaggy bathroom - noisy outdoor air-conditioner split system - thin walls - a dinner was not so good. bland and cold
No proper parking facility. Specialy room for 1 vehicle only at the entrance.
The old charm and historic character of the hotel The live music whilst dining The historic bar near the pool
some rooms can be noisy near the road poor wifi access in most rooms service is variable
some staff were attentive and kind.
Didn't get room we paid for on booking.com, room old, smelly, windows didn't lock, light bulbs not working, dark tired rooms, told no more rooms until the next day but later found out from hotel manager hotel was only 50% booked and he was not impressed with his staff. When moved the next day we had just settled into the room and they rang and told us we had to move again. Overall 4 different rooms in two days, time in this town wasted. This hotel is old, worn out and over priced. Customer service needs drastic improvement and money needs to be invested to upgrade the place and provide decent rooms. Mattresses worn out, holes in them, dirty, and sagging. Hot water takes up to 10 minutes to reach the room. Everything about the hotel is old, worn and tired and the rooms smell like an op shop. Avoid this place and stay somewhere else. Manager was apologetic once he realised what had happened during our stay. We are not fussy people but this place spoilt our stay in Kandy.
Loved the colonial charm & character, with timeless architecture.
Shower curtains could do with being replaced by something more effective to reduce water on floor.
excellent location, nice breakfast, great rooms with such a great history, helping staff, Mr. Sanjay, the front office manager was very helpful. I will recommend this hotel for any kind of travellers to kandy. Still recollects the beautiful Kandy lake view room. the study room inside... very thing was so good
being a history hotel the management like the traditional style of electrical switches. toilet needs to be bit more maintained. other wise things are ecellent
the building, the location,the breakfast!
bathroom,and some kind of details..
old hotel which need renovation
The location and the historic building
We requested a quiet room more than 3 months in advance and nevertheless we were given a room facing the street in the 2nd floor. It was terribly noisy, and also the customers were very noisy. Impossible to rest
receptionists not very profesional
Historical building and interiors, The staff, The location
A bit noisy at night if windows are left open in the bedrooms.
