Shalimar Hotel  

Pleasant elderley men operating the Hotel, ever so eager to help (and receive tips). Best location for the price if you must stay in central Colombo. Breakfast was very good for the price.

Reception man just could not resist the nation's favourite pass time of pretending that he had no change. Here's a free tip for you dude - no tip for cheating tourists! Rooms are a bit grotty (walls, tiles) but if you look hard enough everything is within the room in one rudimentary form or another. Lobby area smells like diesel fuel, probably because the hotel is close to train station, but upstairs OK.

I really liked the food in their restaurant. The staff was very helpful and it seemed sincere, not just for tips. It is a good place to stay for the money and it was perfect for getting to and from the Fort Train Station. I am a single woman traveling and there were only male employees, but they made me feel safe and well looked after. Perfect for short stays, long term may not be recommended. It is super old and reminded me of the "Indiana Jones" movies that took place in the 1940s. They also have a neat bar.

Kind of far from the airport and a little pricey to get to and from, 2500 rupees. That is tuk-tuk and cab prices, no real way of getting a discount there.

No window in the room. Location - it it further away from the railway station, than expected.

1. Right next to a major train station. 2. Strong air-conditioning, hot shower, and free wi-fi in room. 3. Very spacious room. 4. Reasonably-priced food in the restaurant.

The room is big, clean, with a small living room. 赶脚像我朝的准三星，性价比还是不错的。

The 2 km distance from Odel is a bit embarrassing. Better take a Tuk Tuk there.

Need to fix Air-con or fan at Ground floor awaiting area (too hot and no ventilation)

This place is perfect for a short stay, especially when you want to catch the train from Maradana down to Galle. The trainstation is just around the corner. Airport pick up by the hotel at 2am worked out very well.

The hotel is a little dated, the furniture very basic, but still very good for a short stay and budget traveller.

i thought it was a fair priced hotel

they are offering huge amount of facilities! the hotel staff helped us a lot - they could order a taxi if you like from/to the airport if you like, and to ather places also. They also helped us a lot when we urgently needed the medicine! The restaurant of the hotel was the only one reliable in the whole quartal!

Close to colombo fort railway station, clean rooms, tasty food

Take care when paying because I had feeling that they did not make honest mistake when they showed me the bill, receptionist wanted 46 eur instead of 35 us dollars,when I told them it is not correct they did not say nothing,so be firm

I enjoyed the ease of getting to and from the Fort area and the room I was given was quite large and nice with lots of windows. Internet was also good.

I did not encounter anything that was disatisfying or problematic.

Staff from the restaurant was very helpfull and kindly. The menu on the other hand was very basic and the food was not so good.

We asked and got a quiet room ( not on the streetside). The downside was that we got a room with no windows = daylight/ ventilation. That became a real problem when a car leaked petrol and the room was filled with petrolgasses. We asked for another room wich was not possible. We decided to go to another hotel and then suddenly there were other rooms available. However we left Shalimar. Note that around the hotel there are no restaurants or things to do.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel arranged airport pick-up, driver was waiting on our arrival. We stayed in a courtyard room which was simple but spacious, clean and quiet.

It's a spacious hotel. Clean, Location OK. It full easily, I recommend you book this hotel earlier

This was second time I stayed in Shalimar. You can have a drop to airport, 20$, by brand new car

the room is really big. Good location. Good restaurant and service.

the bathroom is only soap, no shampoo or shower gel. At night we saw a mouse in the shower (!). Sometimes the Wi-fi does not work, there is a connection, but in fact no sites are not loaded and only at night I can to get on the internet.

A tad pricey but colombo is more expensive than rest of Sri Lanka. They do add on service charge to everything here.
