Clean and comfortable room Wi-Fi Standard eggs, toast, fruits and tea/coffee for breakfast
No hot water for showering. Had to endure icy water for two showers during my one night stay.
A good first three nights in Sri Lanka Nice staff Will be even better when the swimming pool is finished.
Needed a reading light in the room. Walls needed more sound proofing.
airport pick up; driver for entire tour; very good location for Dambulla, Anuradhapura, Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa ; nice, clean and big rooms
I could not find a bad thing about it
the guesthouse is a very nice and lovely place in a quite location. not far from the city centre. every room has a nice private balcony where you can relax. the staff is very friendly and helpful. the restaurant is very good especially the rice and curry. perfect place to visit the ancient cities and sigiriya.
Helpful staff and friendly
Close to the Golden Temple( it's only steps away)
We specifically requested a room with a balcony as we booked one online. They didn't give us the room we booked as it was taken !
The staff was really kind and helpful. They arranged me daytrips and gave me all the informations I needed. They offered me free pick up from the bus station when I arrived. The room was clean, bright, I have no problems with mosquitos. It was tastefully decorated. Dinner was served in the back yard, delicious.
The stuff welcomed us warmly
I have never seen so many mosquitos anywhere else in Sri Lanka. There was no mosquito net in the room and the appliance against mosquitos was not working... Not worth the money!
1. Location 2. OK breakfast
1. Bathrooms fawcets kept breaking down. Hot water came and went away. 2. Mosquitoes get into the room and bathroom 3. Old furniture, many missing lightbulbs, no table 4. Most rooms are close to the main road in Dambulla, so noisy. 5. Owners' dog barks every single time you go by, any time of day. 5. Read in Lonely Planet raving reviews about this hotel. All hogwash! Hard to believe actual travellers wrote them, and not the hotel staff themselves. If this is the best Dambulla can offer, then the other hotels must be dumps. Quite shocking.
Good location to visit the cultural triangle IF you have a driver. The outdoor space is nice & restaurant looks good.
The rooms were unfinished and dark. The restaurant is the only option for dinner in the area and is so poor- we waited and hour and a half for a meal that was instant noodles and then weren't offered any refund or apology. The staff are friendly at first but unwilling to help with actual problems. Unfortunately the worst place we stayed in a month in Sri Lanka1
Big rooms, pretty good location
Poor breakfast (limited quantity and extremely slow service - keep this in mind when making plans!), they are watering the garden all the time - that means that you have to go through mud to your room, too expensive for what they offer (compared to other hotels in Sri lanka), they don't have a spare key, so if you want room cleaning you have to leave the key at the reception, they promised bus station pick-up, but after calling they sent us to find a tuktuk, animals in room (ants, geckos, scorpio) ... It was the worst hotel we stayed in our 18 days trip in Sri lanka!
The staff are very helpful. Good location. 15 mins walk to rock temple. owner helped us to find the bus to Kandy on the road.
Water is not hot
Entrance to room was flooded and dark.
We stayed only one night and booked Sundaras for it's location to the Cave Temples. It takes just 5 minutes to walk to the temples but there are plenty of three-wheelers if you need. We didn't use the guesthouse for any trips but there is a board in the reception area with trips which appeared reasonably priced. We needed to get to Kandy in time to catch an early train and the lady at reception was knowledgeable about buses etc. The room and facilities we're good and provided everything we needed.
It's inly a minor comment but although there was netting up at the bathroom window there was no mosquito net in the room and my partner got bitten on his arms and back many times.
no hot water in the room
Great location, short walking distance to one of the nicest temple on Sri Lanka (subjective opinion :-)) You can catch bus, literally, just in the front of the guest house.
Inside the bathroom is visible from the road. There are no curtains or blinds.. it is a little problem at night. Upon arrival the staff took my passport and walked away. We've waited long time for check in.
Great staff and relaxing atmosfphere. We enjoyed late evenings in quitet outdoor restaurant with delicious food. 5 minutes tuk tuk ride to bus station (easy day trips to Sigirya, Pinnawela, Pollonaruwa etc.).
WiFi reception in room was sometimes of poor quality. Hotel's restaurant bit pricey.
This is a great hotel. The staff were all lovely - very helpful and very friendly. The food was exceptional - one of the best meals we has in Sri Lanka, delicious! My only disappointment was that my son's bed did not have a mosquito net and he was quite badly bitten during the night. Except for this one resevation, I would whole heartedly recommend the Sundaras.
I travelled through Sri Lanka for 4 weeks and this was definately my best stay! I stayed here in the beginning of my trip, I had only planned 2 nights but stayed 3 instead. It was so nice and in that area was still so much left to see that I even decided to come back in the end of my trip, again for three more nights. The location of Dambulla is so fine that I could easily do so many things as daytrips from there. I didn't get bored in there! Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, Minneriya & Kaudulla Nationalpark - it's all so close. And even Kandy is just a two hours bus ride away. The rooms I stayed in were all very spacious and nice and due to the daily intense housekeeping super clean! One night I stayed in their dorm too. Normally I don't often do that when traveling in Asia (rooms are cheap in Asia, so why share) and before I saw that room I honestly thought it would be overpriced. But no, it wasn't! What a nice and super spacious dorm with AC and the nicest most luxurious bathroom ever! Including a rain shower and roof light. But what makes this place my number one choice in Sri Lanka is that very special atmosphere in there. That lovely staff is so open, so full of heart and joy. Staying there I always found myself surrounded by honest interrest, care and laughter. Especially the manager has a special gift to pass that on to his guests. He is always chatting along and is brilliant in creating an open atmosphere that makes it so easy to get in contact with other travellers. Nowhere else in Sri Lanka I talked to so many other travellers or spent so many late nights sitting and chatting along. Sitting on the porch that belongs to some of the rooms or on the chairs in the garden and enjoying the light night breeze and listening to the sounds of circades was heavenly. The food in the restaurant was very tasty and due to the soft music and light and it's open construction it felt very relaxing to sit there.
Right from the boss to all the staff very very friendly. Everything is good about this resort. They will arrange airport transfers, taxi for local site seeing and the restaurant is excellent to have food. I recommend this resort to people visiting dambulla.
Sundaras is very close to the caves in Dambulla, making a good place to stay if that's your purpose. The reception staff was friendly and helpful. We booked a great trip through the reception to see elephants in Minneriya Natonal Park.
The staff in the restaurant was slow and seemed confused. We often needed to speak to more than one staff to get our order through, even though we ordered from the menu card with no special requirements.
The location close to the Rock Temple.
We purchased a deluxe room(higher price) and they gave us the basic. Also, we had to pay a 25% taxes on top of the price stablished through booking.com. Bed sheets not entirely cleaned. Staff not always helpful. Poor breakfast.
Good view of the lake and very helpful staff
