Staff was incredibly kind, helpful and friendly. Restaurant was one of the best on the beach--delicious food and service. Great location, in central location right on beach. Bed was comfy. We loved everything about this hotel and would definitely recommend it!
Internet was pretty slow but because we were on vacation, it didn't really bother us much.
Comfy bed and pillows
Located on a busy road with constant horn beeping & the room was located above noisy reception & kitchen. Nice room doesn't make up for it being overpriced and getting no sleep.
The staff were amazing and helped make the holiday, food and facilities were excellent
Really delightful, helpful staff, incredible location right on the beach, lovely rooms. Loved it and hope to return.
Only one complaint which was the smelly plumbing in room 102. Everything else perfect.
Almost everything! Very helpful staff, very clean room for Sri-Lanka. Very good location - right on the beach. Good meal.
The total amount = booking costs + 20 or 25 % taxes. So the final price is more than planned. Bit noisy, I use special block for my ears in the evening.
Availability of the staff Unawatuna beach front location Good breakfast
Noisy (Room #8 at the 1st floor close to the stairs) Floor and bathroom does not look clean Room without personality A bit expensive compared to the quality
Can be a little noisy in the middle of the night
locations, staff, room, restaurant on the beach, towels for the beach
smell of the room (very strong smell of sewer), only 3 beach umbrella for everybody, same breakfast everyday
the location is excellent rooms are spacious
the restaurant is on the wrong side, the road side, rather than the beach side.. the staff fawn rather than serve the water pressure was very low and the hot water took a long time food was only fair a door fell off the wardrobe the lighting was poor
Everything about Thaproban Beach House was totally enjoyable. The staff - every single one that we encountered, every time throughout the day - always greeted us with a smile, asking if they could do anything for us - and did! Shopping tips, touring tips, menu selection tips, you name it. The food was always good and our room was everything as-advertised. We stayed for a full week, intending to relax, and were completely recharged. We tried to keep a "milestone birthday" quiet, but the staff insisted on making a fuss (which we enjoyed completely) with fresh flowers, a BIG birthday cake, music, handshakes and hugs. There are fancier places to stay in the area, but with one of the best beaches outside your door who wants an elevator or a pool? BTW, wifi was upgraded during our stay for guests wanting to know what was going on outside this paradise. We will certainly return again and again!
The only thing we did not like is the behavior of a customer (not a hotel guest) on the beach that came to enjoy the beachfront, ordered drinks, and left without paying. What a shame!
Great place to stay lovely beach very friendly staff food is excellent manager lady was most accommodating, if you are looking for 5 star hotels unawatuna is not for you but a relaxed beautiful beach to drink cocktails on and great food with 5 star service you can't go wrong
The hotel was wonderful from the time I checked in till I checked out. The hotel was right on point from the staff to food to facilities to beach front location. Lovely place to stay.....will be staying again.
The location, staff and food is fantastic at this hotel - nothing is ever a problem. Will definately book longer next time. Loved it!!!!
There is nothing to not like at this property...
Accomodation right on the beach, very nice and clean beach.
They want 300 rs for 1l water. Try restauration next to the hotel, really good and cheap.
- The incredible kindness of the staff - Direct access to the beach - The menu is really rich.
The expresso machine was down :(
Good value for money with lovely, helpful staff. The hotel is right on the beach (and it is on the part of Unawattuna beach that hasn't washed away so there is lots of sand). Good restaurant with tasty seafood. Breakfast was fine if repetitive. Room we had was a penthouse one on the top floor. It had a huge balcony overlooking the sea all very clean and all very nice Absolutely no complaints about this hotel would return without hesitation
Nothing to mention here. Just be aware if you book the penthouse it is a duplex with a bed downstairs and another upstairs - the stairs to the upstairs room are very steep and it wouldn;t be suitable for someone who wasn't very nimble on their feet (or anyone after a couple of drinks!)
The location is almost unbeatable with a great selection of bars and resturants only meters away.
We loved our entire stay at the Beach house except for one issue with an overflowing geyser. It would overflow at night and after informing management they assured us it had been fixed. To our dismay we had to deal with another night of an overflowing geyser that poured onto our balcony throughout the early hours of the morning. On discussing the Chinese water torture he next morning, management were apologetic but not interested in offering any discount for the room that made sleep impossible. After a 20 minute debate they eventually agreed to a 10% discount. We thought the matter was handled very badly from their side.
We loved the friendly staff! We enjoyed our meals! Our room was very nice! We would go back in a heartbeat! We had a wonderful time!
Rooms have been nicely renovated.
The location of the hotel and the position of our room. We had a ground floor room that was quite noisy.
Location, Overall pretty nice.
A bit inexperienced staff, not all serviceminded
Kind staff Nice beach
Cockroaches in the room Overpriced
good location, nice rooms and bathroom
the room smelled a lot, no manager at night, so when we had to check out late evening, due to emergency, we had some trouble. But the manager eventually came and checked us out, but he did ask too many questions and made us feel bad for the rush.
Excellent location on the beach, attentive staff and great restaurant. Will defiantly be returning!!
The Thaprobane Beach House was a perfect choice for our last beach days during our Sri Lanka holiday! The location is great, it is at the beach front more or less in the middle of the Unawatuna bay and the beach and water is perfect for swimming there. The staff was very friendly and attentive and took care of any request we might have (tips on excursions, information about the surroundings, arranging of transport, breakfast preferences, beach towels and even a change of room). And our 20 month old toddler made many new friends... Breakfast was very good with a choice for almost every taste, you could even get Sri Lankan breakfast if you pre-ordered during dinner. Try it out if you like savoury and spicy breakfast! Maybe the biggest plus is the great beach restaurant where we ended up having dinner 4 nights in a row (usually not our habit!) and we could see there were plenty non-hotel eaters around even though competition on the beach is not far away. They have a fresh seafood offer on display in addition to a complete a la carte menu. The room was nicely furnished and cleaned several times a day (at least we got this impression). We would definitely choose this hotel again if we ever come back to Unawatuna! If you want something bigger and a bit more isolated from the town “center”, there is a sister hotel with a pool and nice rock seaview about 10 minutes walk away (the pool can be used by Beach House guests too but we did not bother with the wonderful beach right there…
Due to the wooden doors and windows rooms towards the street may get noisy in the evenings whenever tuk-tuks or motorbikes pass by. But we were not bothered by this and after 23:00 it was usually very quiet. The beachfront ground floor rooms might have a little less privacy than the others on the 1st or 2nd floor as they are directly next to the restaurant - but of course you’ll have the shortest distance to the beach during daytime. :-) There is no ATM in Unawatuna, so make sure to bring your cash when you arrive or to take the opportunity for a trip to Galle Fort to refill…
Great location, nice hustle and bustle in the street. Staff really accomadating and nice.
They did screw me on the conversion of currency telling.
