- Room was amazing. Thank you to Jack that upgraded us. Incredible open concept bathroom and spacious room surrounded by the trees. - Amazing staff. So dedicated, warm and welcoming. They made us feel at home. - Food was delicious and well prepared. - It is a place to enjoy nature, peace and tranquility. You will get away from the tv, your mobile phone and internet. - Thank you to all the staff, the chef and Athula.
We really enjoyed everything at the hotel. These are just a few comments for your trip planning. - The hotel is one hour away from Kandy city so our recommendation is to visit Kandy city before you head to the hotel. - Driving after sunset can be a challenge due to the narrow-winding road and no street lights. - There is nothing around the hotel so if you need extra things for your stay buy them in Kandy. - If you need to close the windows at night, you might want to ask for a fan.
I cannot say enough about how fabulous my stay at the Samadhicentre was. From the moment we arrived the staff made us feel welcome, offering us a refreshing fruit juice. They gave us a free room upgrade without our asking. With the help of a map they provided we explored a jungle river and bravely had a swim. Before dinner my partner and I had a divine couples' massage together in a small hut in total silence, save for the sound of the river. The dinner buffet was delicious. The dinner pavilion was lit solely by antique oil lamps. This theme was carried to our lovely room- the Knuckles Pavilion. Our driver told us the owner is a respected antiques dealer, which explains why each room is exquisitely decorated, offering a mix of old Sri Lankan articles in an open, airy space. From our terrace, we drank tea and read books while looking out over the green and wild mountains. We were sorry to go!
I have nothing negative to say. It was perfect.
huge rooms home cooked food staying in the middle of the jungle
bedding was damp and didn't feel clean long ride into town by taxi feeling closed in when it rains more of a guest house than a hotel so perhaps overpriced
Amazing location, feels like living in the rainforest. Lots of unusual features in the rooms. Fantastic food - among the best curries of our trip. Friendly helpful staff.
Meals quite expensive in comparison to all the other places we stayed. Facilities fairly basic - one or two of our group found it all a bit too rustic. Rooms were not "done" during our 2 night stay - not a problem for most of us.
Excellent accommodation Jungle setting Wildlife everywhere Our bathroom!
The samadhi centre was simply wonderful. The location is incredible. After a hectic stay in Dambulla town centre we were looking for somewhere to relax. Samadhi is set within an exotic haven of calm and wonder! The walk to our room (we were given a free upgrade) was an amazing ten minute walk through the jungle. The centre has obviously been thought out with care and passion to provide a thrilling tour for the senses, each house is individually placed and decorated to feel private and comfortable, with lovely, calming, antique laden decoration inside. Also there were monkeys right outside our room! And friendly dogs that belong to the centre that guided us along the paths (they do not come in the rooms). The staff were SO helpful, it was such a relief to feel looked after and well advised when there is the possibility of feeling somewhat harassed elsewhere as a tourist in Sri Lanka. The staff know the perfect combination of when to help out and when to give you some privacy. We called before we arrived and they picked us up from the bus station, we were greeted with fresh juice and shown around our room, we were offered help wherever we needed and they helped us to find somewhere to stay when we moved on to Ella. We also tried the yoga, with an amazing teacher who was very attentive and encouraged our relaxation at the centre. We tried the Ayurvedic massage and steam bath which was heaven on earth. We were also offered a guide to walk to a nearby waterfall for no extra charge which was a fantastic trip. The centre is close enough to Kandy to arrange a tuk tuk (around 40 minutes- through breathtaking hilly scenery) but far enough away to feel secluded. Oh and the food was delicious! Three courses every evening, all traditional Sri Lankan fare, and the breakfast was delicious too- with herbal Ayurvedic porridge and lots of Sri Lankan sweets to try.
Other than far from downtown about 30min driving, everything was great. I had a great chat with the friendly staff and owners, and they had their dogs guard my door at night. So sweet! The hotel was quite and it was not much to do though, if you are looking for a quite vacation in nature, definitely the place to go!
Yoga, setting, nature, staff kindness - Jack in particular, food served directly to the table, peace&quiet
bathrooms were not cleaned during our 5 day stay (not really a problem, but apparant) those adverse to the odd creepy crawlie should travel with their own mosquito net or request one in advance
Everything about this place is amazing. It's a really unique property and e staff are so welcoming. It's just a beautiful experience all around.
The Samadicentre is undoubtedly the most unique accommodation in Sri Lanka. The staff were very friendly and the food was outstanding. Waking up to mist on the mountains and wildlife in the tree tops was pure serenity.
Insects. Although that's a small price to pay to live the jungle!
I have traveled a decent amount. This is the nicest place I have ever stayed. It is an absolute steal at their price. Stay here. You will not regret it. Promise.
You are in the mountains. Expect uphill walks.
The Samadhi Centre really was a beautiful experience. We only had one night there but spending the two days there gave us some well needed, peaceful relaxation after what can be very full-timeon travel in Sri Lanka. It is a one of a kind. It would not be the best idea to stay here if you are wanting to do the sites and attractions in Kandy as it is located about 50mins away on windy roads. But that makes it all the more wonderful! Out of the hustle and bustle of kandy, with rooms by a flowing river open to the jungle and a waterfall for swimming. We could bathe in the refreshing river, the views and sounds of the wild were amazing, and the local food they cooked were like none other we had on our entire trip, they were delicious! I would definitely return to Samadhi and recommend it to anyone open to an experience!
There was no WiFi, however this is probably a positive for the concept of the hotel, being a retreat of sorts. Also, we missed out on swimming in the waterfall because if it has been raining, they get leeches! Neither of these are a fault of the hotel, however, and they do everything they can to accommodate
The Samidhicentre, Kandyis an enchanting and romantic place to stay it was just excellent we would definatly come to stay there again!!!
Nothing bad to say
The staff were all great, particularly Jack who's very helpful and friendly. The food was delicious, the location was beautiful and peaceful. Even the resident dogs are delightful! It's not just the standard run-of-the-mill hotel- it has been beautifully designed with a fine eye for artistic but simple details. The outside bathrooms were highlight for us!
There was nothing we didn't like. It may be less suited to people wanting a quick journey into Kandy though, as it is a reasonable drive from the city.
