When we arrived at 3pm, the '24 hour reception' was locked, and there was no one to be found- we had to phone the manager who arrived after 10 minutes. He did not welcome us, the cottage was not ready- he fetched bed linen, plates, cups and cutlery, towels (for which there was a charge), plugged in the fridge, took our money and left.
It is on the river bank, but there is no 'beach' or access for swimming in the as described- my husband was disappointed!
If you want to play tennis it will cost you 5 lats. The 'swimming pool' is only for use with the sauna which costs 20 lats.
The cottages were nice, but not 'spacious', and certainly not room for 7 people. The cottage we stayed in was different to the pictures shown (smaller). The bed linen did not fit the beds, and we were given the same size sheets for the double bed as for the single, so nights were uncomfortable. The 'kitchenette' was two hotplates, a fridge, one frying pan and a kettle which we had to plug in on the floor. The shower was small and 'hand-held', but adequate. The 'satellite TV' consisted of hundreds of channels in Arabic, one channel in English and nothing in Latvian! The place was pitch black at night as the lights around the site were not put on. The location is nice but the online description is very misleading.
The tranquil forest setting is very peaceful. 15 minutes drive from Valmeira. There is a man living in a small hut on site who is very hardworking, friendly and helpful- he supplied us with dishes when we asked.
There are lots of security cameras.
