The hotel building was constructed in 1871. The hotel's interior styling is distinctly Scandinavian.

If you want to work up a sweat you can exercise in the hotel's sizable fitness centre, replete with thoroughly modern equipment. After some tiring physical exertion you can unwind in the hotel's sauna. You can use both the gym and the sauna free of charge.

The hotel houses 2 meeting rooms which are ideal for small seminars, business meetings or private functions. Both rooms are equipped with modern business facilities and can accommodate between 10 and 12 people.

Food & beverage

In the traditional setting of the Columbine Restaurant you can enjoy a delicious and diverse array of European, Scandinavian and international cuisine. Here you can enjoy anything from oysters to curry. The restaurant and its adjacent bar have become popular with both hotel guests and locals seeking a place to relax with a good meal and a cold beer or a glass of wine from the extensive wine list.

Area information

Latvian National Opera (less than 100 metres) - see a performance in this ornate, cosy opera house.

Pulvertornis (Powder Tower) (500 metres) - this round building, the only tower of the old city walls that is still standing, is now home to the Latvian Museumof War.

Riga Dom (800 metres) - considered the largest medieval church in the Baltic states this 13th century cathedral has a magnificent pipe organ with 6768 pipes.

Great location in Old Riga. Near National Opera, 14-plex movie theater and new Department Store, Stockmann's. They honored my "no smoking" request. My room was very clean and functional. Ask for room facing back so as not to hear street noise from trolleys.

Need an American News Channel, CNN Int'l or FOX or MSNBC Only selection in English was Euronews which pretty much ignores the USA. At 53Lats, for twin bed room, this is not a cheap place to hang your hat.

Only downside was the slight noise problem at night from passing traffic and trams.

The price of evening meals in the restrauant - poor value for money, also very poor quanity of vegtables

The downstairs bar was welcoming and a good place for a drink and a bite to eat. Good location. They cleaned my room late in the day without any fuss.

The gym is poor, I wanted to use it but one look and gave up. The sauna only opens after 6pm and the two times I wanted to use it, after 6pm, it was still closed.
