I was due to stay at Hotel Cesar Resort & Spa (Route de

Prior to getting ready to go out and explore Marrakech on the first morning of my stay at this hotel, I had asked the hotel staff whether it was possible to walk to the city center by foot. The hotel staff told me that walking to the city center by foot was entirely possible and they indicated directions along Route de l'Ourika. Slightly before midday I commenced my walk along Route de l'Ourika towards the city center in the company of my daughter. After approximately ten minutes walk, almost right outside of the hotel, near Carrefour, I was, without the slightest bit of warning, hit by a scooter/small motorcycle, which came from behind me at an approximate velocity of 60 km p/h and which drove straight into me sending me flying several meters ahead before I fell down on my right shoulder on the sidewalk. My handbag was robbed before the thief drove off. The whole incident was executed with such professionalism that neither myself, nor my daughter had any time to decipher the situation.
Despite being a fluent French speaker nobody in this busy, commercial area tried to help me and after having been turned away by several taxi drivers one driver agreed to transport me the short distance back to the hotel. My credit cards, my phone and my passport were stolen and a later visit to the local hospital demonstrated that my shoulder was completely fractured and I found myself in great pain. In a state of complete shock at the hospital, doctors and police men were unsurprised and told me about countless recent similar incidents of violent crimes committed by local gangs against tourists.
Very friendly and helpful hotel manager.
