Best place to plan to climb Jebel Toubkal (4160 m) – Morocco’s and North Africa’s highest mountain. Not only Toubkal but many other day trips and hikes can take place from Imlil including visiting Berber villages, with guides who can be hired locally with many different types of trips to meet your needs, horse, donkey or bicycle its all on offer. Note no local ATM machines so take enough cash or be prepared for a short trip to Ansi. Wherever you travel the views are inspiring.

excellent hideaway from the heat of Marrakesh.
excellent hideaway from the heat of Marrakesh.
Zarathustra restaurant cooked us a fantastic dinner, for the right price. We has a look to their rooms, and other that there was no air-con at the time, the style, price and size were very nice. Some of the rooms had shared bathroom.
We did not find good restaurants in Imlil other than the above, though we did not check other hotels and riads. there are some local restaurants that were ok, very local....

Even if you aren’t planning to hike Toubkal, I would 100% suggest Imlil for a quiet weekend to get away from the bustle and bustle of Marrakech. In my two trips to Morocco, I’ve visited Imlil three times, once for a day, once for several days on my second trip just to relax with no plans of hiking Toubkal, and then I returned with friends to hike Toubkal.
My experience with the people of Imlil is that they are genuinely welcoming and kindhearted, not just pretending to be because you’re a tourist with money, as I’ve experienced in other cities. The prices of things are also typically better than in Marrakech overall, although they are still geared towards tourists.
Despite being a few different settlements, Imlil is a small village where everyone knows each other and is happy to help you find what you’re looking for. There are plenty of guides for a day hike or for hiking Toubkal, and whatever lodging you stay at can usually help you find someone to guide you.
Overall, Imlil is my favorite place in Morocco, and coming here feels like returning home.

Incredible mountain village.
Incredible mountain village. The mountains and nature are breath-taking. If you want peace away from it all I highly recommend!
The local people are very peaceful and kind too. Don't be shy to say hello!
One of my favourite places in Morocco so far
I think this was the most incredible find because of the host, location, and views. We arrived late at night and even then Driss cooked us some lovely food. We woke up to a fantastic view of the valley from our terrace before heading on a guided walk. Along the way, we heard about the history of the Berber people and stopped at a couple of excellent sights including the Imlil Cascades and villages for mint tea.
This stay is ideal for someone who wants an authentic experience amongst the Berber people in the High Atlas mountains.
Youssef and Houssain are what make Atlas Imoula a fantastic place to stay. They catered to our every need and were extremely attentive and accommodating. The view from the rooftop terrace is exquisite and the beds are comfortable and cozy. I will say that it got pretty cold at night (we were there at the end of October) so bundle up or ask for extra blankets. All in all I highly recommend staying here. Oh and stay for dinner one night and ask Houssain to make you vegetable tagine. His was the best we had in all of Morocco.
This was one of the most amazing stays in my whole Morocco trip! The lodge is in an amazing location, close to the start of the hiking trail. The atmosphere in the lodge is welcoming, it is clean and cozy. But the most important I would like to say thank you to Hassan, he made my stay very comfortable, feeling like at home! I think he is doing an amazing job and it really feels he is doing this from his heart. I highly recommend this lodge for short or long stay. I wish I could stay longer here!
Hassan the menager of this place is a great cook and guide. Hotel has a really nice big sunny terrace facing toubkal summit. You can enjoy nice tajin or breafast with magnifecent view on the mountains. Cascades waterfalls coud be reached within one hour walk. We stayed there only for one night so we didnt do much trekking around. There is a bike rental in the village nearby. It was litlle cold after the sunset (December) but we got extra heater and blankets. Breakfast was delicious.
The riad has a fantastic view over Imlil valley and the mountains from the terrace, which makes an excellent spot for breakfast. There is also a spacious, comfortable lounge for the chillier evenings. The staff were wonderful: Mohammed's food was some of the best we had in Morroco and Abdul was a wonderful guide. Abdul offered us many options of hikes and was very flexible, informative and helpful taking us on a wonderful hike we will remember for a long time!
The gorgeous small riad is located on the mountain slope with a beautiful view of the village below and the High Atlas mountains. Mohammad is a wonderful host: he is very communicative and goes out of his way to take care of his guests. The breakfast served is one of the better ones we had in Morocco, and we also enjoyed a delicious dinner on two nights at Jnane Karma. I definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone travelling to Imlil.
I spent two night at Refuge Imlil during last May 2021. The refuge meets my expectations and I was pleased with my stay there. The manager Mohamed was extremely nice and helpful and always there to support/guide you 24hours. The staff and food in the refuge was delicious. I enjoyed the amazing view in the terrace during the early breakfast. Without hesitating I rate refuge imlil “Exellent”.
This was our favourite accomodation in morocco. The hotel itself is very comfortable and cosy while being well priced. breakfast was great and the views were stunning. the sun room is great for trapping the suns heat when it’s chilly outside.
the best part though was Hassan who helps run the place, he is extremely helpful (especially if you want to do any mountain activities)
Such a cool hotel! It looks so nice on the inside, good warm shower, even a hairdryer, beautiful views, friendly staff. Looks pretty new to me. Imlil is easy to reach by car, they are working on the roads that were damaged by the earthquake, but they are very welcoming to tourism. I recommend eating at the hotel, Osama is a great chef and makes lovely soup and tajine.
Nothing luxurious but that's not what we were looking for. If you're searching for an authentic experience, in a Berber village that's a 15 minute walk from Imlil, then I would strongly suggest the Berber Family Lodge. Hassan, the manager, will work overtime to make sure you have everything you need. The food was delicious, as were the views.
We had a lovely stay here in Imlil. The terrace is wonderful and has full sun from morning to eve.
Also: we were served the BEST tajine we’ve had in Morocco. It was wonderful food.
The staff is very nice. Speaks good English and is incredibly kind.
The heating works well as does the water pressure.
We really enjoyed our stay.
Really confortable room, with nice and authentic decoration, mindblowing view over the village and mountains.
Breakfast were really good but the dinners we had were simply delicious ! 😊
The hosts were really kind, full of advise and we felt welcome in their place.
If you are looking for a place to stay in Imlil, don’t hesitate!
This place is amazing. The location is perfect, a little out of Imlil but a perfect walk into town. Also just a few mins walk down the road is a few local restaurants on the creek serving some of the best tangines we had in Morocco. The staff are super friendly and the rooms are clean. Location is great for hikes
Quiet location and walkable from central imlil. We had a car and a nice space was provided for parking. The shower worked well. Breakfast was good. The host provided snacks on arrival and was very flexible for check in time. The price to value for this hotel is spectacular.
Stayed here the night before and after our High Atlas Trek. The owner and staff were so friendly and took care of all our needs. They have a fantastic terrace with the most amazing views.
Breakfast was very good.
So glad we stayed here, downtown Imlil could be noisy.
We stayed for two nights at Dar Adouss, which were very pleasant, the room was clean and large with comfortable beds, and Aziz is very nice and serviceable, he made sure that we are comfortable and satisfied. We highly recommande Dar Adouss for anyone visiting Imlil.
Breathtaking views from the terrace, nice comfortable rooms, great food and amazing hospitality. Hassan was the most welcoming and helpful host. I can't imagine a better place to stay in Imlil. Thank you for everything!
Imlil is an awesome place to stay. Very tidy and clean rooms. Incredibly friendly and welcoming staff. The dinner Harira and Tajine have been fabulous. We loved this hotel with its unique location.
A very pleasant hotel, a warm welcome, spacious and comfortable rooms, excellent bedding, impeccable cleanliness, and an excellent breakfast. Everything is perfect.
You can't close the curtains all the way for privacy. Loud doors, just like in many other places in morocco. Some exposed wiring. Otherwise, superb for the money.
