Old world charm Location
Check your room before accepting. The rooms allocated to us were nothing like the photo and details we selected when booking on this site. We we're allocated other rooms that were acceptable. Yes..we enjoyed our stay
You must adjust your expectations to stay here, but it is a grand hotel in decline. Enjoy it for what it is, forget about hot water, and appreciate the helpful staff. Perfect location between the ferry port and the Medina.
Really very little hot water, even during the scheduled hours.
Great location, but note that alcohol is not sold in the old city.
Close to ferry terminal and ticket office Receptionist was very helpful. Easy walk to ferry in morning.
Porter demanded more tip money for carrying two bags. The surrounding area was dark be careful. Long way from nice restaurants
classic old lady of a hotel. Amazing architecture. No elevator but helpful staff to carry up bags. <had to walk in and huff up some stairs. <it is within easy walk - and view - of the ferry port.
no bathmat was a bit scary because the shower curtain was short and water got on the tile floor. We had to use one of our two towels.
Close to the port. The feeling of a historic building. The rich interior of lower levels. Jimmie's antique store. A walk through a time long gone. Youssef, at the front desk.
It is a slowly sinking ship, as it is not being maintained as it should or could. To enter the building, one has to walk through narrow, dirty, dusty streets. Too much much has changed, for the worse, the hotel deserves better.
The hotel was just as we expected having read other reviews. Yes it is true to say that it is not as modern or well equipped as some of the new hotels on the beachfront. However, what it lacks in modernity, it more than makes up for with its beautiful decor, great location and friendly staff. We were a party of eight and had a great time. Very convenient for Tangiers Ville port, the medina and the beach.
We went during Eid which was a mistake, I would advise avoiding religious festival dates when most shops and eateries are closed. No alcohol is served in the hotel. Noisy call to prayer VERY early in the morning.
The astonishing mosaic designs in the banquet halls, the accommodating staff. The bedrooms are very spacious and contain old-style furniture. There is a patio that overlooks the port. Full of atmosphere.
Rooms are very old-fashioned and there can be a lot of outside noise.
Good location. Adequate facilities. Very convenient for those traveling from Tarifa. Walking from port not as gray a challenge as it first appears. Rooms simple but clean with new windows that made room very quiet. Bathroom appears recently remodeled. Did not have breakfast at hotel so can't say about that.
Restaurant fair. Hot water not available 24 hrs!
Okay for a transit hotel but would not recommend for a long stay. We loved the view from our balcony (in the newer part of the hotel)...nice views of the old port and breezy. The room itself was basic but clean and reasonable value for one or two nights. The more interesting, but unfurbished rooms, and the more interesting parts of the hotel generally, are in the other half, where we had breakfast (which was a basic continental buffet but with some edible fried eggs included)….rather like a museum there and worth the effort to see it…she must have been a grand old lady back “in the day” but, yes, she is now rather tired. No major complaints…the front desk staff were helpful but the restaurant staff were a bit dismissive and spent most of their time looking at their mobile phones.
The restaurant (breakfast) staff were a bit dismissive and spent most of their time looking at their mobile phones.
Staff were more than helpful when we had to move room due to extremely noisy guests late at night next door. Food is delicious and restaurant service very good. Hotel is fascinating with so much history - a definite photo opportunity
No cards accepted in restaurant, only cash. Night staff don't speak English so we had to sort out noisy neighbours
Close to the ferry port
To enjoy this hotel you would need to be quite deaf and strong to get your luggage to your room as there is no lift
I was given a room deferent than what I booked, it was in the 3rd floor and it was very hot with no air-condition, I asked to change it and they said the hotel is fully booked, and in my checkout I asked for a discount and they refuse to do so.
It was across the road from the port which suited our needs. We had a nice meal on the terrace in the evening.
Staff were not friendly; we didn't feel welcome. The room was pretty basic. We had to ask for soap for the bathroom. No wine available to have with our evening meal.
A serene historic hotel, full of character, in an ideal location with great views. Welcoming, friendly, helpful multi-lingual staff. Large very clean air-conditioned en-suite bedroom with comfortable beds and balcony. Everything worked. (Room 105) Excellent breakfast. Happy to recommend.
close to the market and train station
Very old building in need of repair and upgrade.
Amazing old style building. Would have been spectacular in its hey day. Ornate Moroccan decor is fantastic. Great breakfast. Close to the Medina.
Good central location - for the city centre and port, though the main bus and train stations are both a taxi ride away. A very impressive building with spacious rooms and a pleasant outside terrace with superb panoramic views over the port. Must have been great in its heyday! Very good value at the price.
Nice bar with scenic terrace but no alcohol - a cold beer would have been very welcome on our hot arrival, but of course it is in an Islamic country. No lift - not a major problem for us but could be for some.
This hotel has an excellent location. It's only 5-7 minutes walk from the port but you can see it on the right hand side of the road on top of the hill, and it is in the medina close to shops and restaurants /cafés. Staff extremely kind and friendly, no lift but clean, free wifi and good views
No lift, hot water only running in the morning and evening but that's not so bad due to the heat in August. Not many satellite channels.
Tso quiet could barely hear !he shower... water sprated over the bathroom floor, a too short Shower Curtain... lack of mirrors, TV sound 1!so quiet we could only just hear with difficulty 1
The hotel is located within walking distance of the medina and the casbah. We enjoyed our stay both times we stayed at Hotel Continental. We really enjoyed the traditional and antique decor throughout. Breakfast was simple with a variety of cheeses, breads, fruit and pastries.
The Hotel Continental is a beautiful building that exudes majesty. The tiling in the breakfast room is stunning and the views over the port give a real sense of place. The hotel, and the rooms themselves are full, of old and eccentric furniture; a mish mash of history hinting at intrigue and a past grandeur. We all loved our brief stay here and enjoyed the peace it offered from a hot and busy Tanger.
There were times we were kept waiting for service.
Room very large but need to be renovated.staff very kind and multilanguages speaking. hotel is front of Harbour and very closed to Medina and some restaurant.
- Location in/near old town - Good food - Great breakfast - Stunning balconies and view of bay and harbor - Real old colonial romantic feel to the place
- Impossible to find by car, even though you can see it from the harbor. You will sadly have to pay a punter at least 5 euro's (a lot by local standards!) to help you drive illegally down a one-way street and up a narrow alley to get to the parking. - Hotel badly in need of TLC and upkeep
