In the heart of Essaouira, this hotel is in a house dating from the 19th century and is decorated in a traditional Moroccan style.
Score from 566 reviews Excellent
Located in Essaouira’s medina, this seafront riad offers stylish rooms with a traditional Moroccan décor and 2 terraces with sea views.
Score from 136 reviews Wonderful
I was unwell and the manageress accompanied me to the doctor and helped me converse with him. I loved the Atlantic rolling in just outside my window (I stayed in Malita room) and the huge, opportunistic seagulls at breakfast on the terrace.
The bed was a little too firm for me.
Breakfast on the terrace
Quite hard to find
View of ocean and the sound all night; Breakfast on terrace a delight; great location; Friendly and helpful staff
I should have booked for a week not just three nights.
Lovely decor / calm and very clean. Helpful owner. Great roof terrace
Slightly far from the main souk area, on the edge of the medina meant walking down dark, less clean alleyways but fine once we found our way and got used to it.
Location (down a hidden ancient path from the souks, right up along the ocean where you can hear waves crashing from your window). Rooftop breakfast with a fantastic view. Nice comfy bed with lots of extra blankets if the ocean wind makes you cold. Overall a great value and nice staff.
Shower didn't get hotter than warm. A small thing thought, which definitely didn't affect our lovely stay.
location location location. so friendly staff. decorations full of charm and character. rooftop breakfast.
i got too fat and lazy to climb the stairs to the rooftop more than 3 times per day.
All in all a nice stay. Liked to listen to, and look at, the ocean all the time.
smoke from the hamam next door. (only 1-2 hours a day)
The hotel is located close to the water which means you can hear the waves at night, a nice touch. Also the rooftop terrace where breakfast is served is beautiful. A definite highlight.
Rooms are quite small and cramped especially the 2 bed room. Would reccomend the double bed rather.
Quiet, cool rooms. Comfortable beds. Very clean. Beautiful terrace view. Friendly staff.
As it is so close to the sea, the sea mist doesn't allow clothes to dry and everything is damp in the morning but part from that the hotel is lovely
the location directly by the sea is great. The service of the Mohammed was excellent
just next door are 4 smoking chimneys of a hamam!
We had s wonderful stay at this Riad. Love the staff. Our room was at the back on the edge of the Atlantic. How fantastic.
The location was a problem at first but you soon got use to the Medina and dark streets. Always felt safe.
Well placed. Staff friendly without being intrusive.Wonderful views from the roof. Roof terrace nice to sit and have a glass of wine through the and snack in the evenings - you can buy wine at a shop next to the medina walls out through the Bab Doukkala...
We had the room (the only one) on the ground floor 'behind' reception. It was very small and the windows opened onto the streets from two sides. All the visitors entering and leaving and having breakfast are outside your bedroom door! Our fellow travelers were on the 2nd floor and it was wonderful.
Amazing views from the rooftop, clean rooms, comfortable beds, and doubled-up windows to keep out any street sounds.
Breakfast, service and the view.
Location is great, and also easy to find. From the terrace, there is a nice view over the sea. Beautifully decorated.
The room was a bit small, but that was no real problem. Very nice place.
very nice interiors, beautiful terrace overseeing the ocean - overall highly recommended!
Close to sea wall, to better hear the ocean. Nice view from roof.
Nice view from the rooftop if you don't mind walking 67 steps to get up there.
We ended up in the Zahra twin-bedded room which is the size of a broom closet and on the main floor tucked behind the reception desk. This meant we could hear everyone coming and going through the main door and walking along the street outside our windows. Bathroom had a pronounced sewer odour which was very off-putting. Suggest you stay at the gorgeous hotel (I forget the name) a few steps away instead with fabulous décor and amenities. FYI, Dar al Bahar does not accept credit cards.
Ambience of tiny provincial hotel.
Friendly staff and seaside location on the old wall in ESsouira.
Rooms were small with double beds even smaller. location in a seedy part of town and the whole place is quite dark and clostraphobic. The owner, John Claude, gave us a part refund when we cancelled our last night but we had to fight hard for it even though we gave 24 hours notice.
Excellent roof terrace
All the staff at Dar Al Bahar were very friendly, the room was lovely with simple, unfussy decor and very clean. Most importantly for us it was very quiet! Highlight definitely must be having breakfast on the lovely roof terrace in the sun, overlooking the waves breaking against the sea wall. We would definitely stay there again.
This isn't a dislike per se, but solo female travellers might not feel 100% comfortable with it's location, tucked away on a quieter back street.
Breakfast upstairs on the roof was lovely.
The ground floor room is dark, cold and its windows are on ground level. This leaves you with a choice of closing the thick dark curtains or being on view to passers-by. Being right behind reception it is also noisy.
Breakfast is very good and you can request more. Location is not far from the fort. I booked 3-person room which is clean and nice but a bit tiny. No heater in room and bathroom but you can request more blanket. Staff can speak very little English but they can understand basic word.
