In Dar Gnaoua, it was like being at home. Laurence, Rachid and Ahmed took care of me as if I were a family member. The house is close to the main attractions in the Medina, and has a beautiful view from the terrace. The owner has a photobook showing the very interesting work of renovating a traditional moroccan house, which she did beautifully with Dar Gnaoua.
I stayed in the blue single room, there is no curtain separating the shower and the main bedroom, so if the water is turned on high, it will splash over into the main room when you shower. Wifi is somewhat unstable from the 3rd floor and the terrace, but very good downstairs in the hall.
The riad itself was a quaint little boutique with only 4 rooms, but it is surprisingly spacious with 4 floors including a beautiful terrace) hidden deep in the alleys. The staff will however explain the directions very clearly (there are also many signs on the walls to lead the way) or pick you up from Bab Rcif if you give them a call on arrival at Fez. There is a lovely roof terrace that overlooks the medina and the hills, starting your day with a sunny breakfast on the terrace is most enjoyable. The best thing about the place were the two staff Ahmed and Rachid who were the most wonderful people and will help you with anything you need. I travelled solo and they made me feel comfortable and at home, a great big thank you to them!
Staff Ahmed is just the best! He picked me up from Bab RCIF and carried my luggage up the maze of steps to the riad. Then when we got the riad, without me asking, he gave me a map and marked down the places to visit and good restaurants. As I left the riad to walk around, he offered to walk me and showed me the way and how to remember the way back to the riad. The view from the terrace is phenomenal! You get the view of old city of Fes and the new city too. Breakfast from the terrace with that view makes the walk up to the riad more than worth it. The owner, Laurence, made me feel very welcome and at home.
I have no complaints. Just want those who have trouble with stairs to know that it could be a problem. I loved it.
Lovely Dar with stunning views. Very friendly staff that makes all attempts to make your stay pleasant. We had arranged our own guide but I'm sure they would have helped with that also. Staff are sincerely there to make you comfortable. Access to the Dar an adventure in itself but becomes easy quickly.
Nothing, I recommend it!
Staff really nice, they made everything to make us comfortable. We arrived late at night and they provide us bread to eat because nothing was open at that time. I made the reservation wrong, but they solve my problem in the best way I can imagine.
The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a good stay, even walking us to get our taxi in the morning and negotiating with the driver for us, very much appreciated. The riad had been beautifully restored.
room is pretty small and with low ceiling, no toilet included, just a tiny shower place but no door, water splashes out to room
having breakfast on the rooftop terrace is nice, responded over phone even arriving late
Only two minor things that comes to my mind: - You need to exit room to enter your bathroom as there is no direct entry there (only our room was like that) - There were some areas in the room where wifi signal was poor
It was truly amazing experience we had during our stay: - Pickup by Ahmed on medina main square - Riad itself - great attention to details, and beautiful mosaic inside - Really big room with huge bathroom - Terrace with impressive view over Fes (and we had our breakfasts there!) - Breakfasts - big portions and tasty - Staff - Ahmed and Rashid were great hosts that helped us with our luggage and gave plenty of advices what to see and do! And they speak very good english.
Great place to stay with extremely friendly staff who made us very welcome. We were met in place rcif on arrival and diligently shown the way through the maze of streets and given a good orientation of Fez! Best place we stayed on the trip and great value. Thanks!
The Riad is a bit of a walk (and up quite a few flights of stairs) from the closest point where a taxi is able to drop you off. Staff will meet you in the Plaza and help you with your luggage...but be prepared to walk a bit! Also, the room we stayed in only had a curtain separating the bathroom from the bedroom and a hand-held shower. While neither were a turn off for us, they may be for other travelers.
In all my travels, I have never been so impressed with the staff of a hotel or B&B! Rachid is simply wonderful. He went above and beyond and truly made us feel at ease and well cared after. His presence alone makes staying at this Riad a must!
nice location, good room, perfect terrace. absolutely wonderful staff, helpful and kind.
Living in the Medina is not really for me, but when it was sunny and with lots of people it was interesting
The people working here were very helpful and welcoming. I read only good things about this place and I can support them
Amazingly friendly and helpful people , serene, breathtaking terrace, overlooking the Medina, probably the best in Fes.
First of all I was really amazed when we entered the riad. It was a rainy day when we arrived but Ahmed found us easily and leaded us to hotel with a smily face. Mrs Laurence welcomed us with clean towels and a big smile. And then everything was brilliant. They cooked us traditional food with a reasonable price and taste. Riad is in the centre of medina and easy to walk everywhere. Room was clean and well decorated. From the terrace you can enjoy the view of medina. Ahmed, Laurence and Rachid made our holiday unforgettable and thanks for everything!
There can not be anything here that you dont like.
This hotel is the place that i can not forget in my life.we reached there in a very rainy there but Mr Ahmed hosted us from the point that we called him, took us,helped to park our car and and to bring our luggages to the hotel.the hotel is like a private villa.Ms Laurance the owner very kind lady and cares everything.at first day even she showed us around and the way.cleaning is excellent.beds are very comfortable.breakfest is perfect.the dinner we had at hotel one night was very delicious and big porsion.our staff were also was very kind and helpful.everything was more than perfect.
when i trun on the tap labor, suddenly cockroach came from the sink drain.....
except for just one thing i wrote below, everything is perfect.
Access - would never find it by myself...
Availability of the stuff to help with infos, the view from the terasse - the best one!! The house itself...
We stayed 3 nights in the Menzeh room, which was the room on the top floor with windows opening to the terrace. The whole house was beautifully restored to original details. The open view from the terrace was superb due to the high up location in the medina. Having breakfast there in the morning or just sitting there admiring the view at night was the perfect way for us to start or end a day. Beside the beautiful facilities, the service was truly excellent. Ahmed and Rachid took very good care of us: picking us up at Bab R'Cif when we arrived. Laurence, the owner, gave us valuable recommendations for sights to see, restaurants to try... Her warm personality was very welcoming. The genuine hospitality and kindness of the whole team really made us feel at home.
It's not just an incredibly beautiful place to stay at, the service was so amazing. I got sick in Fes, so I tried to stay there for more nights but it was all full. So Lawrence called every place so I could find a place to stay and even walked with me to another place. She walked me to a really nice restaurant, too. Also when i got lost in medina, I called Ahmed and he even picked me up where i was! I honestly didn't feel comfortable at another place i stayed at, so i called Lawrence for some help, and they even dropped by at my new hotel to check up on me if i was ok, brought me some medication. They were just such genuinely nice people and i wish i could go back there to thank them and also spend more time at a lovely place. Stay there and your time in Fes will become even more fantastic! :)
That we stayed only for 2 nights :)
The riad is located at the top of a hill that overlooks the narrow streets of Fez. It is very quiet and relaxing just to sit back at the terrace and wacth the busy city go by. Our room on the top floor was very specious with high quality interior and bed linens. The staff is extremel helpful and super nice and are ready to assist with any needs. We could even use the kitchen to prepare a dinner for ourselves that we ate at the terrace. This riad is highly recommended as it is a very good value for money deal. Thank you again!!
A bit hidden inside the Medina, which made it all the more interesting, this place was the highlight of my trip to Morocco. Charming staff, beautifully decorated and sober, with a lovely terrace, great breakfast, and few rooms, made it really feel like home. Loved it.
Every thing ok. Thanks to Rashid and Ahmed.
Beatiful place allowing people to live the experience of the medina. Rashid and Ahmed give you a very good service as well as directions to do everything by yourself within the medina. Ask them in advance to go looking for you at Rcif stop to make it easier the arrival.
The slight bad point is very week wifi in the room and there is a shower but no toilet (just outside the room). But these are just very minor issues.
I was so happy to stay at Dar Gnaoua. The Dar was nicely decorated and quiet residential area. The room was cozy with A/C and small windows that I could see a beautiful view of Fes. It has a rooftop too where you can just relax and have a breakfast, with amazing view. And I must mention Ahmed who helped me throughout my stay. He picked me up at Bab Rcif, and explained very well how to reach to the Dar. (it's quite complicated, he explains everything, no worries) I had to leave the Dar very early morning around 6:30am, but he also woke up and prepared a breakfast for me, and carried my luggage to Bab Rcif to get me a taxi. If I ever go back to Fes, I definitely stay here again.
The bathroom being separate to the Royal suite was not the most comfortable. They should knock through the wall and join it to the main room.
Perfect management and staff, beautiful views, great bed, good location in the Medina. Ahmed is perfect!
Amazing place, staff are so helpful and go way above what's expected. We felt so well looked after here. Breakfast was wonderful and the view from the roof terrace is spectacular! Amazing place and such a welcoming atmosphere!
