We had to wait awhile for the staff to arrive at the Riad, so it might be a good idea to tell them when you plan to arrive. However, once he did arrive, he more than made up for the inconvenience. We had an early departure and still received breakfast. The owner showed us around and helped us catch a taxi in the morning.

    Little hard to find

The Dar is so clean! The staff is so polite. The bed is good! We also like the location. Basically everything is perfect.

The first night the Dar didn't provide me a soap. May be because we came late.

Steve's house is great and he is an awesome host, I made a round trip with my girlfriend in Morocco and spent 3 nights in Fez. During this time we felt like home thanks to this Dar (or Riad... as you prefer). The whole house is very clean and very pretty, with a nice courtyard where you can have an excellent breakfast in the morning (that will be waiting for you ready to eat when you wake up!), another cool thing is that the breakfast changes as they buy fresh stuff gradually, so (at least for us) is possible that you try different things each day! Then you have a rooftop where you can relax in the warm nights. The owner (Steve) took care of every detail and gave us very nice advice of what to visit and (very important :-) ) where to eat yummy dishes.

    Nothing.

We really loved our stay at Dar Houdou. The riad was really nice and our room the cuttest ever. What made us feel like home was the stuff that was very friendly and Steve the owner, who is a very cool and interesting guy, was more than helpful with everything we needed!!!

This is a beautiful riad in the medina in Fes. Good location, close to the markets, and a great breakfast (the orange juice was particularly amazing). Steve and Mohammed were both very helpful, and arranged a great tour guide for us (named Ali - who not only gave us a very informative tour of the medina, but also offered us brilliant relationship advice!). We particularly enjoyed the electric blanket in our bedroom, as Fes can get very cold in Winter.

There was nothing negative about this riad.

Nice and homey, very friendly and accommodating owner, and welcoming staff. Best breakfast we had in Moroccan riads (excellent yogurt!). Open access to the kitchen to make your own tea/coffee. Good location in between two main streets connecting the western and eastern parts of the city, in addition to being close to one of the gates with access to petit taxis.

Water can get everywhere in the bathroom if you're not careful with the shower. Would not recommend trying to find the riad by yourself for the first time; as others have mentioned, pay the extra money to have a driver pick you up from the airport/train station and lead you to the front door. After that, you can definitely get there by yourself.

Dar Houdou is a true gem tucked away in a perfect location within the medina. Steve, the owner of the Dar, was fantastic and although we didn't have the chance to meet him personally, he was always available and willing to help in any way possible. Mohammed who manages the property for him was fantastic and very accommodating. The beds and pillows are incredibly comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious with a wide variety of options. Steve also has a 3 bedroom private Dar that he rents out as a whole (within 10 minutes from Dar Houdou) that my family and I had the pleasure of staying at for a few nights that we strongly recommend you consider if Dar Houdou is fully booked or you want your own place. These are easily two of the best Dars in Fez. You won't regret your decision!

This is a beautiful and very comfortable riad in an excellent location in Fes. The staff are extremely kind and happy to help in any way they can to make your experience as easy and enjoyable as possible. The breakfast was the best we had in all of Morocco! Highly recommended to anyone traveling to Fes.

Dar Houdou was wonderful. It has a fantastic location about 5 minutes walk from the blue gate. It's quiet, and we never got woken up with any of the street noise, yet it's only a minute to either of the main streets. The room was decorated in Moroccan style with beautiful lighting and a very comfortable bed and with great extra touches like a 4 way plug so you could charge more than one thing at once, a fan, a mirror in the room as well as the bathroom. The riad itself was beautifully restored with a roof terrace that was a calm place to relax in the late afternoon. The breakfast was outstanding, muesli, yoghurt, lots of fresh fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice, as well as the usual Moroccan standards, and you could make tea and coffee any time you wanted. As great as all this was, the really special thing about Dar Houdou is the owner Steve (from the UK) his manager Mohamed, and the housekeeper. Steve is full of helpful suggestions for both Fez and around, as well as excellent restaurant suggestions, but with a lovely relaxed attitude. He is completely unbiased in his opinions and was always on hand just to say hi. Nothing is too much trouble, for example we had a late train to Merzouga and because our room was free that night he suggested we keep the room all that day until we needed to leave. Mohamed was also excellent, explaining everything we needed to know on arrival and throughout our stay. On a trip of 10 months through numerous countries, this has been one of our favorite accommodation experiences.

The location is perfect - good value for money - staff kind and helpful

The shower had no curtains resulting in a flood of the whole bathroom after every shower. It is a bit noisy early in the morning, but it seem to be common to all the riad.

Dar Houdou is the perfect quiet stay in a very busy, crowded city like Fes. It's not easy to find but Steve always gives the possibility to come and pick you up, even at 11 pm. The rooms are very clean, the beds are perfect and the kitchen (with free water, tea and coffee) is lovely. The breakfast in the morning is very good, you get homemade cookies, orange juice and fresh fruit. Would definitely recommend this place!

-Dar Houdou is wonderful - amazing location and very friendly staff who are more than happy to help out. The dar itself is gorgeous, and the rooftop is a fantastic place to listen to call to prayer. Breakfasts are big and delicious, too!

-Can be noisy, but this is not specific to Dar Houdou - if you are staying in the old city in Fes, you will inevitably hear the goings-on of your neighbours' lives.
