I must say, I really wanted to keep this a secret to myself so that when I go back to Marrakech the riad has a spare room for me...but I promised Paolo and Ale that I would write an honest review so here I am.
As soon as I booked riad dar zahia, Paolo sent me a detailed message and I already knew I was in good hands. But ofcourse, going to a continent I have never traveled to made me worried a bit. However, as soon as I landed at the airport, the taxi driver that Paolo arranged for us, and the guide that took us to the riad from the wall was so sweet and welcoming that I felt safe and at home. Once we got to the riad, Paolo, Ale and the staff welcomed us with the biggest smiles, complimentary mint tea, and explained the city just enough, leaving some room for us to find the mysteries on our own.
We got the keys to the main entrance, which allowed us to go back to the riad during the day, rest, freshen up any time we wanted. The location was perfect as well, not too close to the busy Fna square, but close enough that we can always go back and orient ourselves when we got lost.
I must say, being a designer, I also fell in love with the architecture and the decor of the riad. Paolo and Ale take very good care of the place, keeping the fascinating original architecture but reformed to meet westernised travellers needs as well. The rooms were so romantic, filled with Moroccan furniture and accessories. I think the riad, and the people there was one of the main reasons why I fell in love with Morocco and Marrakech. I am so lucky that I got to stay there, and that I met such great people right away. Again, thanks to Paolo, Ale and the lovely staff there. My experience in Morocco would not have been the same without you.
