Loved the welcome, the quiet retreat, sense of calm, beatifil old building- well looked after. Great rooftop. Felt very welcomed by staff-Would definately recommend. Rooms very spacious and well thought out.
Room decoration and size
Very hard to find the hostel, Not have any tv in the room, hostel it is in the very small line and far a way from mail road.
Stayed in June 2014 and again in November 2014 . Liked it so much we are already planning our next stay. Owner is lovely and helpful ,nothing is too much . Clean comfortable rooms. Breakfast on the blue terrace is great. Highly recommend a stay at Dar Zayna.
Room was large and generally fine. Both the resident maid and the manager were very polite and hospitable. Nice, secluded little roof area with chairs and tables to relax on. Large breakfast
Toilets were a bit old and awkward but they were being changed as I started leaving. Breakfast was a bit simple.
This is a really nice riad. Room was lovely and quiet, comfortable bed, nicely furnished. I spent most of one day sleeping as I wasn't well and it was very restful here. Nice little private bathroom. Internet connection in my room was excellent with no problems. Lovely view from the roof-top terrace. The location was very easy to find, close to the inter-city bus station, one street back from most of the bustle which was really nice. Check out at midday made life relaxed. Staff were lovely and polite, I didn't have much to do with them but they were welcoming.
Only some of the staff speak English, and my French is pretty poor, which made things a bit tricky when I wanted to ask questions. They were very polite though, I would just suggest to other only-English-speaking travellers to ask the questions when you can.
The staff doesnt speak ANY english - only french. Even the simplest words or hand signs doesnt seem to make any sense for them. Very small breakfast. Staff often not present when we came back - had to wait 30 min for sb to open the riads door. Not a pleasant experience.
From the moment we arrived we felt taken care of. The owner, Yunis, welcomed us to our rooms and served us tea on the rooftop terrace. He bought and took a year to personally renovate Dar Zayna in 2010. I know this because Yunis speaks and understands English (among other languages) well. He was extremely helpful. From sharing his local knowledge of Gnaoua music and personal assistance on finding local woodworkers (he is a carpenter by trade) he made our visit to Essaouira memorable. He was the best of hosts from Fes to Casablanca (6 different accommodations). P.S. In case you might be wondering, this review was not solicited.
Internet in the room was difficult the first day. However, when I reported the difficulty to Yunis he said he was sorry and had someone working on the problem. The next day internet access was fine.
Really nice position and decoration. Breakfast was amazing
They were digging holes with big machinery hammers, not to be recommended at this time!!
Friendly, helpful and attentive staff. A clean comfortable room with really nice authentic feel and features and a simple but generous and delicious breakfast.
Large bedroom hot shower friendly staff.
Breakfast very samey need more variety.fresh fruit yogurt too much bread pancakes everywhere.it's ok occasional but not everyday boiled eggs toast cereal
Easy to find, close to the Bus Station, comfortable bed, good size room, powerful shower
Although we had booked months in advance by credit card, on the day of departure we were told that the machine was broken and had to pay again. We have since learned that this is a common tale, so travellers beware. I had to fix the toilet in our room twice as it would not stop filling up at night and was very noisy. 'Free Toiletries' were a 5cm sachet of Pantene shampoo. Staff were polite but not at all welcoming and were more interested in watching the Reception tv. We asked for an early breakfast as we had to catch a coach but we were told that this was not possible until 8am. There were no central areas to meet with other guests other than the terrace in the morning, and the decor needs updating. We thought that overall, the accommodation was extremely over - priced compared to other similar priced Riads of much higher quality, and was more of a very low budget B&B than a Riad. We don't usually complain, but having originally paid 90 euros for 2 nights, we had expected a much higher standard than we experienced.
The staff were very helpful. They were very good at helping me arrange activities, and taking care of any business I needed. The person I dealt with the most also spoke excellent English. Which was very helpful. .
The breakfast could have had a little more variety.
position of toilet next my head when i sleep
Great location in the middle of the medina, and a friendly and helpful staff. We highly enjoyed the tasty breakfasts on the terrace (as they try to serve something else every day, which brings a pleasant surprise element to the mix).
It was very cold at nights (early March), but luckily we got some extra blankets. The room was not very large but not too small either. And one tip when you're on the terrace: the seagulls will try to steal your food, so keep an eye on those...
comfortable bed, large room, location .
Yummy, typical moroccan breakfast. Very kind staff, clean room/hotel. The owner suggested me a traditional hamam, it was a great experience! He got me a few liters very good olive oil, thanks again for this!!
Excellent location in medina. Homely. Friendly stuff. Breaksfast in roof terrace is a good start for new day.
Location is good, The owner is a very nice man & very helpful at times. My room Orientale was very nice! I hope the owner takes some positives out of my comments! In summer months most points would be fine & the price is very fair, but with my suggestions being carried out you could fairly ask for a bit more!
The breakfast was minimal, stingy if you like b/fast, as I do! When your staying more than 3 days, you would like different things like eggs, some fruit, some honey & choice, instead of that's it! The room although very nice being at the back needed proper heating! It was very cold. The owner kindly offered me some, which turned out to be a dehumidfer drawing out the water which did help, it still remained cold but without the dampness! This riad has got the chance of being really nice with some improvements, it's also unpleasant walking thru a wet floor to use the loo because of the bathroom layout. A mirror actually in the room, ladies would like that, the one in the bathroom steams up after a shower, which I got burnt in because I think the supply of hot water is connected to other places in the riad. The terrace needs a few more touches to make it really appealing. I think this riad needs a woman's touch!
Great location and very easy to find as a previous reviewer has mentioned. I had a lovely stay and it was a real tonic after the mayhem of Marrakech. The room was very nice and I actually felt as if I was being looked after if that doesn't sound like a bit of a cliche. Went to Morocco for three weeks and it was the nicest place I stayed by a long way. Nice terrace and lovely breakfast to boot.
Very good location (Supratours, beach, center, everyhing), quiet but the main medina street was just around the corner. Easy to find. Cosy, nice-looking place. No cheating, no photoshopped photos, our room and everything in the hotel was just like it was supposed to be (not that common in Morocco..). Wifi was mainly ok, roof terrace was nice. Breakfast was served on the roof. Really nice staff.
Breakfast was really small. If you like to eat healthy, there is nothing for you really.
when winter there is so cold
Stayed in the studio which had a second double bed on a second level - giving plenty of room and comfort for the family. Also a fireplace with wood to burn on the coolish January evening. Traditional Riad, nicely set out with old furniture. Good Breakfast served on the terrace. Manager and staff very helpful.
Wi-Fi a little intermitent during our stay, though manager sorted this out. If we've not given full marks for facilities because it doesn't have them, but if you're not worried by the lack of TV, trouser presses etc in our room it's a great place to stay,
The accommodation was conveniently situated for the medina and the bus station . My room was lovely and nearest the delightful terrace . Younis was very helpful and went out of his way to make my stay comfortable . My room was cleaned daily , breakfast was tasty and the staff were all charming .
Only problem was that the room was very cold at night but my requests for an extra blanket and a heater were met so it was fine .
Friendly staff, spacious room, hot shower, good location. Definitely recommended.
WiFi service in our room wasn't great, but didn't bother us much.
