Property itself is beautifully decorated. Wonderful views back down the valley.
Location is not as it appeared on the booking.com map - it was a 45 minute walk from village (down to 20 when you learn the shortcut over the bridge). If this is what you want then you get great views, but it's not ideal if you have no transport. Very much unfinished - the terrace has no furniture for sitting out even. Many reviews have praised the friendliness of the staff. It seems that if you are planning on arranging things through them, you will get on very well and find them welcoming and useful. When we didn't engage any guides or mules, and chose to have dinner in the village on the second night, the atmosphere became much less welcoming. We were also given what seemed like deliberate misinformation (plenty of cafes were still open, and you could eat much more cheaply in town). A pity, as it's a very nice property and the initial welcome was very friendly, just seemed a bit to desparate to get us to spend more money than we wanted.
- Felt completely at home - Beautiful location - The friendliest staff and owners - Simple but filling breakfast - Great balcony - Delicious dinner
- A 15 minute walk from the village, but it is a lovely walk in the mountain fresh air. - WiFi is a little weak on occasion but most of the time good.
family is very welcoming and the guest house is very clean. WiFi in rooms food good and generous portions. Excellent views of countryside and mountains.
If you are a traveller who is not a climber, walker or mountain biker then this is possibly not the place for you! I just wanted a few days to enjoy the mountains and village life but the walk from the chateau into the village, besides being a Kilometer from Imlil, is up and over a steep mountain track barely a vehicle width so there was no opportunity to have a stroll to the village. The minaret of the mosque is right outside the balcony and can be a startling experience at 6am each morning when the recorded call to prayer is blasted at full volume. There are only dining chairs for the balcony so not very comfortable and there was absolutely no hot water in my shower room [no bath as stated] so I had to use the shower in the communal bathroom across the hallway where strangely there was plenty of hot water. Charges for transportation seemed to be made up on the spot with no particular tariff. I have travelled to Imlil 4 times before so appreciate this is a rural and unsophisticated place but the description of the location needs to be much more specific as I am not a walker/hiker and expected to be able to get into the village easily and in fact without transport could not. The 2 rooms with balconies are either side of the sitting room/dining room and are not quiet if there are guests staying up late partying as you can hear all conversation and action replays of their days activities!
The location is simply stunning. You are situated on the side of a valley in the Atlas mountains surrounded by the aroma of fresh mint and camomile. If you are into hiking and waterfalls plus getting a feel for the local lifestyle then this place is for you. Much cheaper than nearby Marrakech and you get to know what felt like real Moroccans. Well worth having dinner at the Atlas Chateau in the evening, many travellers from the surrounding area turned up in the evening suggesting that not only is the food good but also the reputation.
The roof terrace has wonderful views but still has a long way to go as it was unfurnished and not yet ready for use. The time of year could be critical to your trip as we visited during Ramadam which made for us tip-toeing a little around tired locals. Ladies should be aware that the village lifestyle is much more conservative than Marrakech or the coastal areas clotheswise.
The owner Driss and his brother Hassan were incredibly personal and welcoming, treating us like family and taking care of all our needs. They arranged for us to have a wonderful guided walk in the area and arranged transport for us to Marrakech. The view from our room was amazing, all over the High Atlas and looking down over the village. You should know that this guest house is not right in the middle of Imlil itself, but it is a short and pleasant walk from the riad to the center of Imlil through a traditional village setting. When you arrive, they will put your bags on a donkey to transport them to the riad, which we found to be a charming way of doing things. We also enjoyed the traditional food served at Atlas Chateau. Tasty and reasonably priced. We thoroughly recommend Atlas Chateau. It felt more homey than being in a normal hotel, sort of like being in someone's home rather than being a hotel guest, which worked well for us. Thank you!
The hospitality is excellent, very cosy atmosphere. If you book a room with balcony (two rooms has that), you wake up to a magnificent vue over the valley and the Imlil village. The chateu itself is situated a short distance from the village, so if you are driving from Asni, just follow the road through Imlil, and around a short kilometer after the village ends, turn left onto the road/dirttrack leading up to the hotel (it's marked with a sign so you will easily find it). Beware that the road is quite narrow.
It gets very cold at night - but it was no problem for us, because of the thousand blankets you are provided to sleep with, and Driss the host served us all the mint tea we wished to warm us with...
The riad has a beautiful location and we were offered a wide range of treks and exploring activities. The food was ok.
I imagine that guests visiting during the warmer months of the year have a better experience than we did. It was very, very cold and although we got a heater (that they asked us to use very moderately) and some extra blankets we still spent most of our stay freezing.
Very nice chateau with a lovely view, especially when the sun comes in at breakfast time. The food was lovely, especially the tagine. Breakfast also prepared us well for the day. The family are very welcoming and willing to help. We had a excellent guided trek up Toubkal with Ibraham and Driss provided us with many useful bits of information for walking routes in the area. Highly recommend staying here!
- Hospitality of the owner - Free tea at night - Good breakfast
- Hostel is quite far away from Imli village center, 15-20 minutes walk - Simple double rooms are not as discribed with own bathroom, you have to share a very simple bathroom outside the room !!!
