Next to the ocean, the Mimouna is a traditional riad (Moroccan house) offering peaceful accommodations and a large terrace with panoramic sea views in Essaouira.
Score from 148 reviews Very good
In the heart of Essaouira, this hotel is in a house dating from the 19th century and is decorated in a traditional Moroccan style.
Score from 585 reviews Very good
This luxurious hotel features a terrace with a lovely outdoor pool with panoramic views of the Medina and the sea. It is just 1300 ft from the beach, in central Essaouira.
Score from 187 reviews Wonderful
very clean, nice staff, nice lobby and a rooftop terrace, beautiful bathrooms,
modest breakfasts, the smell of the hotel straight out of the trash can,
The meal cooked here was the best in Essaouira, and we ate at some highly rated places. Decorative touches Breakfasts with a view Staff
-stunning views -breakfast on the terrace (w/views) -cleanliness -simple but neat decor -helpful staff -comfortable bed and pillows -very quiet
-like most riads, still a bit stuffy -no window, so not much light -bad water smell the first night (subsequently fixed) -couple of small insects on floor spotted
Excellent riad, nice and friendly staff. Good breakfast served on the top roof terrace with view over the ocean. Great place to stay in Essaouira.
charm of the room kindness of staff breakfast in the terrace
street works and some waste in the surroundings
Such friendly staff who went out of their way to help.
Rooftop breakfast looking out to sea was divine!
I have longer to stay and enjoy more.
The staff was very helpful. The location was good and easy to find. The breakfast was also very good on the terrace. The room was clean and we got fresh towels each day which was nice.
The view was not much from our room, peekaboo at best. It was also a bit noisy at night on the street below but I would not hesitate to stay here again.
My 3rd trip to Essaouira over the last 30 years. It still retains its unique charm and would highly recommend staying at La Fontaine Bleue. It's a very efficiently run riad with a really lovely laid-back vibe - from the very tasteful décor to the warm welcome of the Moroccan management and staff and the owner Thierry. He's an architect and has hit just the right note in the design - modern and very comfortable but avoiding some of the bland over-commercialisation. We stayed in the room on the roof terrace and it was a delight to wake up in the morning and walk out to look straight out at the sea. Breakfasts were a real pleasure (and also very good). Sadly, a couple of the rooms no longer have sea views because a building project into the sea walls directly in front has (illegally... that's Morocco) built too high which blocked the outlook of a couple of the rooms. Booking still haven't amended their site (despite being asked to), so to avoid disappointment, make sure you double check with the management that your room still has a sea view. Nevertheless, still worth staying here for the friendliness of the staff and the setting.
An amazing place to stay! Breathtaking interior design combined with hardworking and very friendly personel make it work 100%. Location is also good close to restaurants and right in the heart of Medina.
Excellent location with great views. Beautifully decorated and very helpful staff. Malika cooked us the most wonderful dinner on our last night there and Hafida packed us a great breakfast as we had to leave early for our flight.
The rubbish outside the riad.
The staff were pleasant and helpful. The rooms were clean and spacious. The riad was beautiful.
The breakfast was perfectly good but relatively standard.
the kindness of staff
Good points: The hotel was easy to find from the supratours bus stop, it was a 10 minute walk through pleasant souks in the medina. Taxi’s cannot take you to the hotel as cars are not allowed in the medina however it is a straight walk through the souks from the Bab Marrakech. Hafida, Fatma, Yassin and the rest of the staff were very nice and friendly. When we arrived Hafida allowed us to use her laptop to get a number for our previous hotel to call them and provided us with a map of the medina and some places of interest to visit. She also found out about what channel was showing the Champion League Final (football) so we could watch it on their tv in the lounge area. We enjoyed the hearty and varied breakfast on the terrace which included cake, eggs, yoghurt, a delicious fruit salad, bread and tea. The location was good, easy to get around everywhere and was quiet and peaceful. The bed was very comfortable and the room clean and modern.
Bad points: We stayed in the superior room which wasn’t as big or as nice as we had expected but provided modern and clean facilities for our stay. As it is on the roof terrace it was very cold and windy outside the room which we had not expected, think we would have preferred a room on another floor. We unfortunately had some bad experiences at the hotel. There was a planned power cut in the area due to some work but the staff failed to notify us of this in advance even though they then said they had a sign up when we complained. We found this to be unsatisfactory as the sign was a small piece of paper on a random board downstairs and was in french and arabic, neither of which we could read properly. We felt we should have been notified of this when we arrived. The power cut then lead to one the staff accidentally burning a hole through my top, although they did pay us for the top. My husband was showering at the time of the cut and the water stopped, meaning he had to use our bottles of drinking water that we had to wash shampoo out of his hair. The staff were apologetic however we felt that it could have been dealt with better and this bad experience of our first morning there spoilt our day as we had planned to go for a quad biking trip and didn’t have another appropriate top for the trip.
Very friendly and warm staff and manager. We were given excellent recommendations for dining options. The roof terrace is beautiful. The rooms are ran, comfortable and nicely decorated. Would highly recommend.
The people who work there are very kind and accommodating. It was a very pleasant experience. I highly recommend the place.
Everything was great.
Wonderful Staff, warm welcome, excellent location, very nice breakfast!
The staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast on the terrace was good and the view to the ocean was magnificent.
Make sure you include La Fontaine Bleue in Essaouira as part of your itinerary when you travel to Morocco. We read many reviews of Riads in Essaouira before deciding upon La Fontaine Bleue. We wanted to stay close to the sea and were not disappointed in our choice. We booked early and were able to stay in a room overlooking the rocky coast. I, a native of Brittany, thought I was back in my native province! The room was much larger and nicer than the photo on the website and was well appointed and comfortable. The Riad is an easy 15 minute walk from the Bus Station and one is in the souks in no time. There we enjoyed shopping for anything traditionally Moroccan. The neighborhood is very quiet. The only sound you will hear is that of the nearby surf. The inside of the riad is very quaint and furnished in traditional Moroccan décor. If you make it to the rooftop, you will have a spectacular view of the coastline while you are enjoying a delicious breakfast with Moroccan pancakes, bread, varied jams and honey, yogurt and exquisite fresh orange juice. You owe it to yourself to have at least one dinner at the riad. It will be prepared by Malika and Hafida. Hafida, who is also the manager, surprised us by asking us what we would like to eat. If you get the chance, make sure you taste her eggplant caviar and the 3 pepper salad. We found those two young women charming, friendly, and helpful. And so was the rest of the staff we met, Waffa, Fatima and Malika. Everyone was always smiling, cheerful and showed a genuine interest in us. We were lucky to meet and have dinner with the owners, Thierry and Martine. They are a charming couple and should be very proud of their beautiful riad which they almost totally rebuilt and furnished themselves with great taste. Our stop in Essaouira was excellent. We enjoyed the cooler weather after the six days spent in Marrakech with 90+ degree temperatures.
Wonderful hospitality and helpfullness
Great location, tasteful decor, attention to detail, friendly helpful staff. We would definitely stay here again!
The 'sea view' we paid extra for overlooked the breakfast deck so lacked privacy - the cheaper room on the floor below would have suited us better!
A perfect place to stay in essaouria, very friendly people, nice breakfast, good but quiet location, if i'll ever back in town i'll be staying here again!
Hafida was our hostess and was an absolutely lovely person. We felt very welcome and pampered during our entire stay. We ate dinner at the riad our first night and it was the BEST couscous we had during our entire two week trip. The room was also the most beautiful and comfortable of anywhere we stayed in Morocco. We hope to return to this excellent riad one day in the future for a longer visit.
Nothing not to like!
The staff were like friends right away and just wanted to make sure they were doing everything possible to ensure the stay was perfect. The gals there even gave me a private cooking lesson on one of their specialities! Wow.. What fun!!
Gorgeous riad, beautifully decorated, out of a home magazine. Amazing views of the ocean from our large room and view from breakfast was spectacular. Delicious breakfast, fresh fruit and yoghurt. Dined in one night and it in two weeks was the best food we had, open fire, red wine, professional service. Staff attentive, very warm and friendly.
