The camel track (9h) and the desert experience
Inside the berber tend it is very hot in August, so we decided to sleep outside, under the stars. Food was nothing special :-(
Merzouga dunes the Camel tour
the comfort, no facilities. Expensive price.
We went on this trip in July so it was very hot- 40 C! We arrived in Merzouga at 6 pm and then continued in a group of 7 on camels into the desert- around 1,5 h ride. Then we watched the sunset, had a meal, then some singing, chatting and tried to go to sleep but it was too hot. In the end no one slept in a tent but outside! :-) In the morning we got back just after the sunrise and had a breakfast and shower in Merzouga. All very well organised! Thanks!
We would like to thank you for the most exciting adventure in Morocco :) Greetings, DM
The staff, location, sights, hostfamily, diner
I think some bedbugs bite us, i will mail the owner about it, hope he can do something about it, because the experience was wonderful.
Something we will never forget. Don't think about this place as a normal hotel or a b&b, even if they provide a great service and offer you delicious food. This is something more, an experience you have to do! We fell in love with the staff of Merzouga Camp that was trully friendly, helpful and really funny.
Everything, this place is simply, and absolutely, the best! Could park the car in the owner's garage, then 1,5 hrs camel ride in the desert, very good camp, very good food, entertaining music evening in front of the fire, dawn on the sand dunes and then ride back to the owners house, very good breakfast. Best place I have been in Morocco, not cheap but worth every single dirham. Amazing.
Everything was excellent, not dislikes at all! Mohamed and Hasan were very helpful,we enjoyed every detail of our trip. Breakfast and dinner - DELICIOUS! We highly recommend.
Mohammed and his team are nice hosts, and the food in the camp was excellent given the circumstances. On our way to the camp we didn't have to wait for other groups to start our camelride, and coming back Mohammed offfered us a much welcomed shortening of the camelride, picking us up halfway with a car (2 times 2 hours on a camel is a bit over the top!).
Be aware there are no mixed luxury levels in 1 camp. You either go to a simple, average or deluxe camp. We booked a 2p berber tent for 150€ and ended in one of the permanent camps at the foot of the big sand dune (rather more basic than I expected based on this price). This camp looks very different from some of the camps you see in the pictures that are shown (our camp had trees growing in it). Booking.com tells you the tent is heated which it is not, and it tells you you get breakfast in the camp while you get only tea in the camp, and breakfast after the camelride back to the hotel where you started your trip ( a good breakfast though!). All in all, the presentation on booking.com is somewhat deceiving, and it would help if clarity was created about what exactly you will get for you money.
We arrived late in the evening (after sunset) but Mohammed waited for us with the camels. We parked our car safely in garage. Thanks to the moon shine in the clouds we were able to see something during 1 hour camel ride. Later in the camp we talked to other people, enjoyed great tajine (food) and young camel drivers did camp fire and they entertained us greatly. The sunrise was amazing. Breakfast+++ PS: it is an advanture so count with the cold during the night (winter time)
Best hospitality we had in Morocco Best breakfast we had in Morocco. Super excursion, the camel drive and sleeping in the dessert! 10 of 10 pionts!!!!
