We were given mint tea on arrival and Nicolas, the manager, spoke with us, gave us maps, and was very helpful and informative. The courtyard with pool is very nice, as is the view from the terrace above. We asked for dinner quite late and were accommodated, and the meal was very nice and good value for money. The bed was very big and had a good firm mattress, which my back enjoyed. Breakfast was lovely.
We specifically booked the Josephine Room as we liked the decor and it had a bath. Upon arrival we were informed the room was unavailable as it was being renovated and the bath being removed. We were told that they had forgotten to remove it from the website (it's looks to be still up there). We were instead placed in the Anyssates Room which was not to our taste. This change should have been communicated to us in the morning before we arrived, we would have booked somewhere else (or at least been given the choice). There were many problems with the room, which we brought to the manager's attention immediately: -No hot water 'Happens when everybody showers at the same time.' (it was 3pm...) -Shower wall dirty 'Maybe it's black soap' (still should be cleaned, no?) -Surfaces dusty 'Maybe they weren't cleaned thoroughly' (yep, got it!) The sink in the bathroom was blocked so we had a handyman in there with a plunger for 20 minutes when we were trying to settle in. The shower dripped heavily, so I had to wrap a towel around it before getting to sleep. The room was e125, and we spent nearly the same again on food and drinks. We were not offered so much as a complimentary glass of wine for the downgrading of our booking, or the issues we found in the room we were put in. Indeed, the manager was nowhere to be seen at checkout time the next day when we could have discussed these issues again. We wanted to stay somewhere special on the last night of our trip but were left very disappointed.
The host was very welcoming and helped us a lot! I was very pleased by the level of services offered and I would definitely recommend the riad and revisit.
The location was great as it was near enough to the centre but far enough away for some peace and quiet. The staff, Mohamed In particular made sure we were looked after and always made sure we returned safely after our evenings out and excursions. Nicolas have us lots of information and spoke good English. I spoke a little French, but would recommend knowing more as it is appreciated.
The beds were far to hard and whilst my friend slept well every night I didn't. The cockroach's in our room :-( I know these are part of the experience but not pleasant as most evenings I had to chase them around the bathroom. The very loud couple that arrived on our final day. Not respectful of the culture and in quiet areas very noisy.
Lovely Riad, from the moment you walk in, it is an oasis of calm. Such a welcome surprise from the walk to the door through the busy, bustling streets of the Medina. We stayed in Anyssates Suite, was lovely room, traditional but very comfortable. Breakfast was continental style, served by the pool or 'sur la terrace' fruit/yoghurt/choice of bread/pancakes/sweet pastries accompanied with honey/marmalade/chutney. perfectly sufficient. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff - very helpful and polite, happy to help with any requests. Get them to organise a taxi from the airport. EUR20 but worth it, especially if its your first visit to Marrakech. We loved this little Riad, perfect for our few days there
Only negative was the distance from the main square, took us about 20-30 mins to navigate there on our first night, probably about 5 mins too far out. Didnt bother us after that though. Not a huge negative but worth noting.
