The only slight issue from our point of view is that there is seemingly
little English spoken by the staff and all of the television stations
are in Italian. Also, if you're looking for fashionably decorated
accommodation, this is not the riad for you but it is nice and
comfortable in a great location.
My husband and I stayed here for four nights in January 2015, our
decision was based on reviews read and cost.
There are hundreds of Riads to choose from in the Medina, varying wildly in price, quality, location etc.
The Bab Tilila was a good combination of well reviewed, reasonably priced, and well located.
Caterina was in touch prior to our arrival and arranged transfers to and from the airport (15 EUR) so we were greeted by their very welcoming driver Ahmed.
On arrival at the Riad we were greeted by Morad who took our bags and welcomed us. We sat down for some mint tea & mini-pastries while he gave us an old Nokia with the numbers of Morad, Caterina, and the Riad pre-programmed. Morad showed us a map of the Medina, and suggested the easiest route to Jemaa El Fna A wonderful start to our stay.
We had a first floor room which was traditionally decorated and pleasant.
The Riad is approx. a 10 minute walk to Jemaa El Fna and an easy walk of about 15-20 mins to the new city.
The room was very comfortable, cleaned well, and a good night's sleep was had. 5am call to prayer is very loud and pretty much no avoiding it, but should be expected anywhere.
Breakfast was delicious with a good selection of breads/pastries/pancakes with jams/preserves etc. yoghurt, OJ, tea/coffee.
We arranged a trip to the Atlas Mountains through Morad, which Ahmed took us on and it was a wonderful experience and a welcome, relaxing contrast to the bustling city. Ahmed was full of insight into the areas we drove through and the market and home he took us to were amazing and we really couldn't have experienced if we hadn't gone with him.
In summary, this place is a nice little hideaway in the Medina. A solid location within walking distance of most attractions all for a reasonable price. Everything we asked for was provided, breakfast was great, and everyone was friendly.
