We were looking for a great first time experience of Marocco for my GF's birthday, and we got more than we ever wished for. A very clean and well styled Riad, great value for money if looking for a quiet retreat from the hustle, bustle and smells of Marrakech. The Riad is located a few streets away from a couple of small market squares and very near to a Mosque, although this can make it tricky to find until you find you bearings which doesn't take too long, also using Google Maps on a phone with GPS really helps, I use a Nokia Lumia Windows Phone as you can download and use the maps with GPS without the need for using data. The fact the Riad is 5mins away from the Souks makes it a peaceful haven close enough to the centre for a pit stop, only 10mins walk from the main square Jemaa El Fna. We arranged a transfer from the Airport direct with Khalid for 200DH, which also covers Ahmed who works at the Riad to meet you at the taxi drop off and help with any bags. The food was good and plentiful, served at whatever time you choose which is useful. They equipped us with maps, and upgraded our room free as it was available and as a gift for my girlfriends birthday, a kind gesture. The room had aircon, was spacious and traditionally styled, wifi access, flatscreen TV, very comfy bed and a well sized bathroom. Safes are available downstairs if you need to leave anything valuable. The roof terrace is very nice and the Riad is quite tall so you get a good 360 degree view of the roof tops and horizon, the sun sets very near to a Mosque in the distance. Being able to speak some French is useful as their English was limited, except for Khalid who's English was good. They cant do enough for you, Ahmed offers full concierge service if you ever need anything, and Khalid will also go above and beyond to help you.
The smell in the alley way leading to the Riad, although this can apply to anywhere in the Souks!
The place is a beauty, very well designed and kept to perfection. It's very quite, calm and clean, a world away from the busy life of Medina, even though it's in middle of Medina. The staff are great and friendly, very helpful. The staff gave great advice about how to visit places, negotiate in the markets. If you like to visit all aspects of Medina, this is the place to stay. Not to mention great wifi coverage all around the place.
First of all, and most important, let them come get you and take you there. Otherwise, you will never find it. Promise. The streets in the Medina are crazy and you will get lost, unless you know your bearings. Second, the hotel overall is very good and clean. Khalid and his staff are very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Khalid's English is a little off, but we managed. Our room (a suite) was decorated very nicely with a beautiful, large chandelier and a flat screen TV. The bed and sleep quality were also very, very good.
The WiFi was very spotty at times. However, my main issues were with the bathroom. The mirror is large enough. It goes from one end of the bathroom to the other. Although it is way too high to see yourself if you're 5'5" or under. There IS an ottoman in the bathroom, which I assume is to stand on, and I DID use it for that purpose. Second, the lighting was awful. There are 2 dimly lit sconces on either side of the mirror and that's it. If you're tall (or don't mind standing on an ottoman to see), and if lighting does not matter to you, then you'll find that this is a fabulous place to stay.
All staff were very kind, attentive and helpful! Khalid and Ahmed did made me feel at home. The location is great too 10min walk to the souk and just a few min to the taxi pick up. Cozy restaurants are around and didn't feel dangerous at all even at a night.
It's a beautiful riad, almost like a small palace! Very clean rooms in excellent condition with everything you need. The staff is extremely helpful an polite. They try to solve anything they can help with. Breakfast it's simple but excellent, typical Moroccan cuisine. I definitely recommend this riad if you want to stay in the very heart of the city.
The only real problem with the hotel is the location. Not so easy to find, specially for someone who arrives to Marrakech for the first time it can be an overwhelming sensation trying to find the riad and getting lost while carrying the luggage. Although it is located in the center of the city, the only way to get to the riad is walking (or motorcycle); therefore getting from the riad to the main square can take about 25 minutes by foot; but during this time it's the perfect opportunity to get to know the medina a little bit more and do some shopping around. But the good news is that the taxi can drop you off at Moukef square, just 5 minutes away from the hotel by foot (if you don't get lost!). But after you are able to find the riad it's an excellent experience and then you can walk around without any problem. The hotel manager provides a map to the hotel, but still Marrakech it's not an easy city at first!
Khalid was an incredible host. The riad was absolutely gorgeous and our room was incredible.
The location gets a little sketchy at night for tourists, and it's easy to get lost in all the tiny streets.
The staff were very helpful, polite and friendly.
If you're a junkie for real culture this is the place to stay in Marrakech. Probably the best part of the trip :) Would definitely go back !
Great riad, with very helpful staff and a fantastic roof terrace!
The staff was very attentive and helpful with advice on seeing the city and getting around as well as providing maps. I definitely recommend having them meet and guide you to the riad the first time. The room was clean and cozy, everything was very chic, and the terrace with the view of the city was a tranquil break while enjoying a pot of mint tea. I definitely recommend Riad Charlott for a peaceful getaway not far from the sites of the Medina.
The doors don't really block much sound, but overall other guests were considerate so it wasn't too big of a problem.
The hostel was very clean, which was really nice. The rooms look great, as does the rooftop terrace. The breakfast was lovely. Staff was very nice and very helpful. There was always hot water, always enough toilet paper etc.
It was pretty quiet in the Riad (maybe because of the time of year that we were there). The staff was out a lot of the time, however, if you really need something you can always call them and they'll be available. The Riad is about a 15 min walk to the big Square, that is, if you know the way. It took us 30 minutes everytime.
We stayed in Riad Charlott for 5 days and could not fault the place - brilliant value for money and standard of a 5* hotel. We were upgraded from the Florine Room to the Pierre Suite on arrival, which was a bonus. The Riad is very quiet, comfortable, warm (even in February) and clean, and still well located within the Medina. There is a wonderful balcony (great views of the city) and good food (if a little unimaginative). However, what sets this place apart is the service of the staff, in particular Khalid. He looked after us from the minute we arrived, with directions, recommendations and advice for how to approach the city, all delivered with warmth, friendliness and in perfect English. On numerous occasions he went above and beyond the call of duty, and for this reason alone we couldn't recommend this Riad enough.
Nothing to fault, as long as you book an airport transfer with the Riad - the Medina is difficult to navigate if it's your first time there!
The staff was so friendly and accommodating. Everything was taken care of perfectly! Khalid was so helpful in giving maps and letting us know the best places to visit. Even when our flight was delayed and we had to try and quickly reschedule our car pickup, Khalid was amazingly helpful in working everything out. We stayed in the Jade Suite, which was so incredibly beautiful, warm, and romantic. It was the perfect getaway from the hectic-ness of the Medina. Although the Riad was located in a bit obscure place, once we remembered the landmarks and way to go then it was super easy and worth it. We definitely picked the right place to stay!
It was a bit hard to find at first, but became easier later on!
Excellent and helpful staff Amazing location in the medina Beautiful riad
Hard to find the 1st time
Riad Charlott is absolutely beautiful and the staff are so attentive. We traveled with our 8-month old and, while I wouldn't recommend this particular place for traveling with a baby (a resort would be more suitable), it would be perfect as a couple. The Riad is very well located--only steps away from the souks and a bit longer to the square. The guide they set up was fantastic and at only 40 Euro, quite a steal! The food was so great--I am still dreaming of the beef tangine with plums and nuts that they cooked up the last night...yum! The room was very clean and spacious. Since it was February it was a bit chilly, but there is a fireplace and the staff will provide you with a heater if you need it. There is also a nice lounge area on the first floor as well as the beautiful terrace to take in some sun.
-The Wifi was spotty and only seemed to work in our room occasionally. -Because the riad is small and doesn't have many guests at one time, there are times when it is hard to find someone who is "in charge" for something you might need--water or something for the room. -We arranged for transportation to and from the hotel and while the transportation to the hotel was flawless it seemed as though communication was lacking on the way to the airport. We had already paid but the taxi driver demanded money and was upset when we couldn't communicate properly (we don't speak French.) He dropped us far away from the airport entrance and then sped off after we unloaded. -The Riad is old (as most are) and the doors don't necessarily fit the doorways leaving quite a gap between the door and doorways. There is a curtain, but with this gap there is certainly a lack of privacy. (There is one room that seemed to have a properly fitted door.) -Lighting in our room was poor and made it difficult to see. -No highchair for small children (but this is pretty common in all of Marrakech.)
The location in the medina. The kindness of the staff. Large room and beautiful terrace. Great Breakfast
