simon & karim have been very helpful and really kind hosts
A great location. Inside the Medina, but a little bit away from the hustle and bustle. A lovely riad, beautifully decorated, with staff who are friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
The room was quite small
There are many riads in Morocco but this riad, though may be hard to find at the start, is cosy and beautiful (like in the pictures). The streets of Marrakesh can be pretty crazy but the helpful and friendly staff make up for everything. They were always readily available to help or advise and the cleaning staff are equally nice. The receptionist also kindly arranged for our airport transfers (by taxi) and the tours we were interested in. The Moroccan breakfast refreshes you in the morning, and when you are back, the room is all clean and tidy for a good night rest. The riad is also very peaceful and away from the city chaos, which makes it ideal for first-time travelers to Marrakesh.
wifi can be slightly weak at times. besides that, the whole experience in the riad was pleasant and relaxing.
Friendly and welcoming staff. We have asked that they organise a cooking class for us and they did! We had a great time at the hotel and during the cooking class!
We had some confusion with a desert tour that we organised but the Manager at Dar Beldia was very helpful and was able to sort everything out when we approached him:)
- Clean - well decorated - well insulated from outside noise since it is in a quiet part of the city
- Bed was really hard - very noisy from other guests - runs some sort of scheme with pricing things in EUR when you really can only pay in cash, and then charging an unrealistic exchange rate and make you pay in dirhams in the end. Either take a big stash of EUR in cash to cover all your expenses or know you are going to be ripped off in the final price.
- The place ius beautiful, very good decorated, and it is quiet, and relaxing. - The staff is very very friendly and speaks english very good. - The breakfast is very good and complete, comparing with other places. - They helped with the trip we wanted to organize.
- Only that when they helped with the trip they offered something very very expensive, that was totally out of the reality, but when we searched for other options and we told them that the price was too much, they immediately found an alternative...
Very clean rooms and nice size.
The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Very personal service, felt as though we were staying in someones house. Location, just a short walk to the hustle and bustle, but far enough away to be lovely and quiet. Nothing was too much trouble
Having to leave to go home
Warm welcome, helpful staff. Excellent accommodation and well located....a great find
The Riad was absolutely beautiful and very nicely decorated. It is a very peaceful retreat from the madness of the Medina. We arranged our transfer from the airport through the Riad, which we would recommend doing as it could be quite difficult to find if you have never been to Marrakech before. The staff in the Riad were beyond helpful, very friendly and welcoming. Always available to offer recommendations or directions. The terrace at the Riad was a great bonus and it was lovely to sit there and watch the sun go down over the city. We would highly recommend staying here.
Service was friendly and efficient; hotel was clean and in good location for walking to sites.
No outdoor windows in bedroom so a bit claustrophobic.
Service was excellent from booking through to leaving. Communication was very quick and all questions answered. A special mention for Tariq who went out of his way to ensure we we comfortable and had everything we needed. Very clean and comfortable place.
When I was questioned about my feedback at the end and why I had only given good on certain sections. It made me feel very uncomfortable and as there was no area for comments on the feedback I could not even provide an explanation why. Breakfast could have had more fruit
Very friendly staff, polite and will do anything to make your stay enjoyable. Still wish i was there, fantastic stay.
Great riad with very nice staff, we've been very satisfied with our stay there.
Enjoyed meeting and talking to Karim who spent a lot of time explaining the history and culture of Morocco. He was extremely helpful with advice on places to visit. My husband was very happy to use the lovely plunge pool in the centre of the courtyard. Wish we had time to use it more often. We had a very well prepared dinner at the Riad the first evening. The location was great- close to all the major attractions. Our room was small but very clean and beautifully decorated. They organized a great day trip to Essouria in the coast and the pick up from and return to the airport worked really well. Drivers were very pleasant.
From the reviews that I had read before I had higher expectations. For example, having a romantic dinner on the terrace or having wonderful breakfasts on the terrace didn't happen. We were told that it was because of Ramadan that staff could not deliver that. I had also read that someone had a birthday cake on arrival. I had written before that our trip was my birthday present from my husband and was a big deal for us. However, during our 3 night stay, there was never any acknowledgement of my birthday at all. In April we stayed in a B and B in Sicily for my husband's birthday and the hosts had made a beautiful birthday cake and had champagne for him on arrival along with a scrumptious dinner with candlelight and so on up on the terrace which made a big difference to our stay. Other places also has recognized special occasions for us over the years . It disappointing for me that there was not even a flower or anything despite the fact that they knew it was my birthday celebration . it is those extra touches that, to my opinion make a place memorable. Also the breakfasts were very ordinary with no variety at all. Usually, I love breakfasts in a B and B but here it was only bread and jam with a little fruit sometimes. The review had talked about varied breakfasts which was a another reason of my choosing it but that was not the case at all. Simon , the day host always asked if everything was ok but didn't do anything special to make it better than ok. Everything was fine but there was not that extra something to make it stand above other places. Must add again that Karim was exceedingly friendly and sweet and we learned a lot about Marrakech from him.
All. The staff help.
Staff, serenity, lovely swimming pool in the lobby
It is the best location! Really close to the Palais Bahia and the main square. The riad is excellent, people are very kind and the food is delicious. We def recommend it!!!
Excellent! All was ok! Ciao Symon!!!
Great staff and excellent Location! Quiet backyard, but only a couple of minutes into the Heart of the medina... I'll definitely reccomend this place! Also very good breakfest on the rooftop
All the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The Riad was clean and all the rooms were beautifully presented. The location was excellent, being only 10 minutes from the square. Highly recommended.
It's wonderful!!! We had fantastic five days in this faboulous Riad. Very helpful staff (fluently speaking englisch and french language) - you feel like a friend in a short time. We loved the interiour and the rooftop terrasse where we had not only a good breakfast but also a very romantic dinner (that's a must!) after watching the sunset over the palace with storks and mosques nearby. O.k. the rooms are small, but we had the Pacha-room which is the biggest and one of the quietest (second floor) and can recommend to book a bigger one on first ore second floor and spend some Euros more for extra-comfort. Rest is all said - we can only endorse the speeches that have just been made, recommend this beautiful place and say: Whenever we will come back to Marrakesh we will stay again at Riad Dar Beldia!
Friendliness, helpfulness and quality of service of the staff. The airport pick-up and drop off arrangements also worked seamlessly. Though the breakfast - taken on the terrace with views across to the Berrima Mosque and Royal Palace, and the Atlas Mtns. behind - was excellent, it was very much prepared for a western clientele (their target market). I would have liked it to have also included things that linked us more to the country we were in, with olives and cheeses, etc. Moroccans that tourists meet in Marrakech seem to divide into two groups: the 'Can't do enough for you, because hospitality comes naturally to us' and the 'We'll only do something if there is a tip to be gained, even if it's only directing you a bit further down the street'. The Dar Beldia staff, both front of house and the kitchen/cleaning staff, were uniformly excellent. The location in a quiet side-alley, just down from the Badi and Bahia Palaces, and out of range of the late-night noise from the Jemaa el Fna square, worked well. The area also felt safe at night. Nowhere in the centre is too far from from the Dar Beldia on foot, though a walk to Zaouia Sidi Bel Abbes on the northern edge of the Medina is quite a haul on a hot afternoon.
The atrium arrangement of the Riad means that any sound is magnified as it travels upwards. There was usually no problem, but on two occasions - late arriving guests who seemed to think that chatting in the open area downstairs, with no attempt at lowering their voices, at 12.30AM was perfectly acceptable, and when the ground floor office phone rang at 6.00AM and again a few minutes later one morning - it was quite intrusive. Though not directly relevant to the Dar Beldia, visitors should be aware that the level of pollution in the small streets of the Medina, if there is no wind to blow it away, can be very high. Mules have been traded in for motor scooters since a previous visit 25 years ago, and the particulate count often appears well above acceptable levels. Also, you need to be careful if photographing near any of the royal palaces, of which there are reportedly four in or near the city. There are no signs even in French, let alone in English, that photography is prohibited near a royal residence. These complexes are also not necessarily marked recognisably as such, though there are guards at gates and high walls all around. Sometimes there is no problem, if you are not noticed. At other times a police car may draw up and tell you in a curt and off-hand manner, in French, that you should not photograph. Either because their French doesn't extend further (unlikely), or because they don't appear to acknowledge that tourism is part of the lifeblood of their city, they come across as a mix between the offensive and slightly sinister, especially the police in plain clothes. Trying to explain (in French) that, in the countries of most of their visitors, the royal or presidential palaces are photographed by everyone, locals and tourists alike, and that many also permit visitors, gets you absolutely nowhere.
