Riad Alamir is set in the heart of the Medina. It offers individually decorated rooms, a terrace with views of the souks (markets), and a swimming pool.
Score from 81 reviews Wonderful
The staff were absolutely lovely and cared for your needs and treated you more like family than lodgers. The hotel itself is very Moroccan in style and not generic like other mainstream hotels such as Ibis Hotel. Although it seems like a traditional place to stay in, it still has modern features and the cleanliness is very good. The open roof of the reception is very tranquil and relaxing and you will not find a large orange tree within other hotels!
The Wi-Fi was at times slow but for a tourist it is not that important to have.
The hotel has a good and facile location, springing from Rue Sidi el-Yamani - one of the main ones within the madina - at decent distance from the madina walls so that you do not get completely lost while looking for it... It is a classic ryad, not too fancy and not too poor, perfect as a budget-to-mid range choice. Good value money. The room was clean and proper, of good size, with working air conditioning, and with a maid that would change sheets every day, definitely a plus in Morocco. The caretaker, which was not the owner, accompanied by the maid - basically the only two persons taking care of the place - were extremely helpful and nice. The two of them, and not the patron, that we saw not more than 5 minutes during our entire stay, deserve all the credit for our nice time spent there.
Small problem with the tub drainage, which was a bit clogged. Breakfast could have been a bit more varied, though the traditional pancake/ bread served there, - cooked on the spot - was one of the best that I had during my stay in Morocco. The eternal problem with the Wifi signal, very poor in the room, but good in the common areas. The patron was a bit dismissive. He insisted that we pay in cash for the two days spent there, arguing that it is possible to pay by card only for longer stays. I assume he wanted to avoid paying various commissions or, moreover, to avoid paying fiscal tax. Although we knew we were entitled to pay by card, we decided not to insist more on the matter and withdraw money.
Excellent location, good breakfast, friendly staff. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a bigger and nicer room without any extra charge. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and were claned everyday. Every morning excellent breakfast consisting of coffee/tea, freshly sqeezed orange juice, jam, butter, honey, melted cheese, bread and moroccan pancakes is served in the pleasant courtyard which stays cool during the day. There is a great roof terrace for relaxing with a great view over the city and the location is excellent for exploring the medina, it is just 10 minutes on foot from Jemaa el Fna.
Roof top terrace, nice rooms, good location
There was clearly an AC, but it was 3m up, and no remote. Already in April, it was very hot and we could have benefitted from it. Curtains fell down easily. Staff was not particularly friendly, apart from the women chefs.
Farouk and Abdul were very gracious hosts. The riad was quiet and comfortable.
The staff here were very friendly and welcoming and the location excellent. I really enjoyed my stay.
Friendly staff, excellent location near the Big Square, nice roof terrace with view on the Atlas-mountains and the Koutoubia mosque, good breakfast, clean.
-location is superb! Everything in the medina is in walking distance. -riad is quiet and peacefull (although room on the groundfloor located next to the kitchen might feel different. -Staff: Fatima makes you feel very welcome and makes a simple but good breakfast. -pleasant room, good beds -when you dont care to much for hot showers and do not need a heater or expect advice or recommendations from the manager it is a good place to stay. Good value for money mainly because of the location and friendly staff
- we asked for a room with fireplace and bath because we stayed in februar and knew riad can be moist and cold. It was confirmed that both facilities were available but both were disfunctional. The fireplace was only for decoration and the bath missed a plug and was not provided to us although we asked.(and even with plug there was not enough hot water to fill it) -there was only once warm water in the sink and the shower was not always warm (we asked bu the could not see or fix the problem) -we booked an excursion with the manager to ouriaky valley which was of very bad quality. The guide did only speak french and we don't speak french. There was a 1 hour walk up mountain we were not told about (thank god we are young and flexible and wearing sneakers...) the marked we were supposed missed. And ofcourse we were to eat in a restaurant with only one menu at fixed, way to high prices of mediocar kwality, -manager Farouk is friendly but could not provide us with tips or specific information although we askes on several subjects. -wifi not always good in the room (and not on the roof top)
Nice unimposing staff. Very quiet at night.
The Riad is located next to the souk of the city center of Marrakech and within a few minutes you are at Djemma al Fna. The Riad is nicely decorated and very peacefull. We could relaxe a lot at this riad and beds are very nice. Fatima is very kind, she makes sure you have a good breakfast and a clean room every day.
We weren't offered any options like meals, advice about what to do or were to go or help with transfer to the hotel, getting our suitcases from or to the room. We would get more information from the booking.com site then from the local manager. The riad is very nice decorated but the rooftop could be so much more appealing, it now looked a bit deserted.
Great staff especially Abdu and Fatima!!!! Lovely place exquisite riad
Very near to Jamma el fina.. very easy to find. The staff is really friendly. He will try to help you as much as he can. Good breakfast
Some room have no air-conditioner.. please check with the riad when book.
We were asked an additional 'tax' of 10 EUR for two nights stay, and we suspected the money would go to the manager. The manager was not helpful and friendly at all but he still asked for "gifts" besides the additional "tax". It's really not a value of service when the tax was not mentioned in the booking. Besides the tax, the room we stayed, which was on the ground floor, has a stinky toliet that really smells terrible. My travelmate also didn't feel safe in the toilet as there are gaps in the windows n doors that we could see people outside. If you still choose this hostel try to avoid room on the ground floor. Overall, it doesn't worth such a good rating as a budget choice.
