Riad Aliya is just a 1-minute walk from the Saadian Tombs and 500 metres from the Royal Palace. It offers a swimming pool in the interior courtyard, a rooftop terrace and a traditional breakfast.
Score from 92 reviews Excellent
Located in Marrakech, this traditional-style riad features a fitness centre, beauty centre and a rooftop terrace with plants and sun beds. After a day of sightseeing, you can relax in the plunge pool....
Score from 143 reviews Excellent
This riad is located in the center of the Medina (historic quarter), 10 minutes from the famous Jemaa Fna Square. It offers a hammam and rooms with free Wi-Fi.
Score from 65 reviews Excellent
It may get quite noisy if fully booked however we didn't have a problem
Good location, very clean, amazing food.
Nothing bad :)
I don't know where to start with praising this riad. The place itself was clean, pretty and about a 10 minute walk into the centre of Marrakesh. However, what really made our stay special was the staff; we met Julian the owner very briefly who was very friendly and helped us when we got into a bit of trouble with a local and the cook (im so sorry I've forgotten her name) was very talented - you HAVE to eat at the riad at least once, their lamb and almond tagine is to die for! Abdul is the guy that made it for us, he went above and beyond to ensure our stay was amazing. It was my birthday whilst we were there and he made a cake for me on the day and a special cocktail with no hinting on our behalf! He organised all our trips and gave the the best directions to get around town. Just the best guy and there is nothing more he could have done. Even small things like not putting actual tea in our mint tea the night before our flight because he knew we had to get up early - these are the little things that really matter. I'd like to say thank you for your amazing hospitality both my boyfriend and I had a wonderful time and would certainly recommend this riad to anyone. Tip to people travelling March - Morocco is cold at this time of year - bring a jumper! Oh and do the Atlas mountain trip, you wont regret it!
We cannot say enough good things about this place. We got picked up at the airport by the transfer service and dropped off straight to the door. Julian welcomed us like old friends and we instantly felt at home. He has some good advice for anyone who hasn't visted Marrakech before, which we hadn't. The Riad is very clean and the rooms have everything you need with very good wifi signal everywhere in the Riad. Abdel provided amazing and friendly service everyday at breakfast and we also had dinner at the Riad which is definitely worth experiencing. He gave us amazing customer service and his attention to detail is fantastic. Everything was taken care of for us and these guys cannot do enough for you. We wanted an excursion to the desert and Julian arranged it all for us and we were picked up on the day we had requested very early in the morning but Abdel was amazing and had a very early breakfast ready for us before our departure and cooked us a quick but very tasty dinner on our return a few days later. The Riad also looked after our baggage whilst we were on our excursion and arranged another nights booking for us on our return. We thought the Riad was perfectly placed as its in the Medina but a 5 minute walk out of the Souks and a 10minute walk from the main square, which means the area is less chaotic which is good. You will get lost at some stage in the Medina - we got lost on the first night trying to get back to the Riad but this is part of the experience in Marrakech. It was designed exactly for that reason - to confuse any potential invaders - and it works! But you will have this experience wherever you stay in the Medina and Julian does all he can to help out in these situations by giving you street maps and even offering to come and rescue you when you do get hopelessly lost. Money cannot buy this kind of personal customer service, even in a 5* hotel!
We (2 couples between the age from 24 to 27 from Germany) did a 5-day-trip to Marrakech in january. We chose riad bab lakhmiss because of the great valuations from other users on booking.com. And we can totally underline that!! Such a nice Place to be! Abdel, a staffer of this riad is for sure one of the nicest persons i've ever met in any accommodation on my travels - and it was my 31th country. We missed nothing. On our first day he introduced us in a map of Marrakech old town. And this was just perfect! Listen carefully to Abdel and you will never lose your way - and if you still do - you will find clues Abdel has told you about. Maybe you can also Explore Marrakech for your own, but it will really help you to orientate. We can just recommend that. Jullien, the french manager of the riad is not less nice than Abdel. You can ask both guys everything and they will try to help you. It's more like talking to friends. If we come back to marrakech, we will always chose riad bab lakhmiss.
The rooms have no door to the bathroom, only a curtain that tends to fall down. One hears all the noises from the patio of riad and the stairs. The stuff tried to overcharge us for a taxi ride to the airport and we had to discuss the issue with the owner. And as non-smokers we were really surprised that other guests were smoking in the closed patio.
The breakfast was good and served earlier on our request, the room and bathroom were clean
Room was a little on the dark side. Putting on make-up a bit hit and miss but apart from that no complaints.
Friendly staff. Very attentive. Breakfast very good. Abdel very helpful with directions through the Souks. Room very nice, clean very relaxed atmosphere. About 10 minute walk to the square, so nicely positioned for all the sites. Julian made us feel very welcome when we arrived.
All staf can speak english. You know that whenewer you need help ,they could help you. They are soo frıendly and helpfull. You dont need a guide ,Julıen(owner)will help you for marrakesh trip
As I said the riad can be tricky to find and you will get lost. This is probably the case with most places that you stay in the Medina though to be fair. As long as you accept it and realise that that is part of the adventure of staying in Marrakesh then you will be fine. Note that as soon as locals see you are lost they will "help you" to get home, this might take some time as they don't normally know the address either (take the address written down with you) but they will use their mobiles or ask a friend and you will get there, but they will expect money. Don't overpay. 30 Dirham or so (£2) is a good tip although some young lads did get a bit aggressive (verbally) and say it's not enough, but you shouldn't pay much more and they will go away as long as they get a tip of some kind.
The owner and staff of Bab Lakhmiss are so keen to make sure you have a great time in Marrakesh. I asked for airport transfers and a meal on arrival. I can can recommend both. It's a fairly hard place to find but the transfer made it simple and the food was authentic and delicious. I planned two trips through the riad, one to the beautiful Atlas mountains and also to the coastal town of Essaouira, both of these were organised the night before and I was picked up early the next morning directly from the riad. The room was clean and the bed comfortable and made every day. The shower was good and hot, but on one day was cold, so make sure you get in before the morning rush, or wait until later. The breakfast simple, breads and jams mostly, but tasty and welcome. The roof terrace is a real sun trap and a great way to start the day after breakfast reading a book.
The fact we didn't get our own keys to come and go as we pleased was the biggest annoyance. We didn't like the possibility of waking people up and if no one hears you knocking you're stuck outside until they do. Even if a deposit is taken for the key, I strongly believe guests should be given one.
The staff were incredible and really added to our trip. They helped us out with any questions we had, which myself and my brother had a lot of (!) and were a lot of fun. Julian welcomed us with a lot of advice and information and then the incredible Abdel was always on hand to help us out or give us beers! The room was basic but clean, comfortable and safe and good value for money. The Riad itself was really nice and kept clean and in a decent enough location. We had a fantastic time in Morocco and a lot of it comes down to staying at this Riad.
The pool is advertised as a "heated pool" however is not. That is quite disappointing because many people choose the properties considering this features. Location is a bit tricky. Arrive to the Fna Square is a bit struggling specially at night with many locals trying to confuse/guide you in exchange of some coins.
The staff are very helpful and approachable. Wi-Fi signal is fair. Breakfast consist on bread with marmalade, orange juice (fresh made) some patisserie and coffee or tea. Quite good. Pick up service from and to the airport is very good as avoid headache with local taxis. We did not try the menu for lunch or dinner.
No door between room and toilet. Riad a little bit far from the Square and quite hard to find.
They prepared us a little offhanded dinner. They dealed with a boy that guided us to the riad at night. Ideal staff.
nothing, everything was OK
- Lovely staff, especially the owner. Very helpful, makes you feel like at home - nicely decorated rooms - heater in the room
Cold floors in the room, bed didn't feel sturdy
Breakfast, quiet, clean facilities, round-the-clock service, friendly employees, heaters, free WiFi, favorable room rate
Friendliness of staff helpfulness of staff English skill of staff Moroccan atmosphere of riad Breakfast
After a wander through the Medina to the square at night, finding our way back to the Riad for the first time was not easy! Not a problem once you are used to the streets which didn't take long once we had done it once in daylight.
We really enjoyed staying at Riad Bab Lakhmiss for the 4 nights we were in Marrakech. Julien and his staff were excellent and couldn't be more helpful. I would recommend getting an airport drop off and make sure you try the food here, it was the best we had in Marrakech!!
First of all the staff including julien and abdel were extremely welcoming and made every effort to ensure our trip was memorable and fun. The riad was clean, modern and within close walking distance from jemaa el fnaa. All of our requests were accommodated and I really couldn't recommend this riad highly enough.
That we had to leave!
This property offers impeccable service with excellent value for money. The staff couldn't do enough for you and definitely helped make the trip a success. Thank you all!
Some people mention that this place is hard to find, yes, its true, but nowadays when every phone has gps, it should not be a problem. And the staff is aware of this problem, they insisted on accompanying us the first time and were worried about us returning :) The candlelit dinner on our day of arrival was perfect!
What can i say? One of the best accommodation experiences I've ever had! That staff here at Riad Bab Lakhmiss are exceptionally friendly and helpful; Julien (owner) greets you with a smile and some very good advice for getting around and enjoying your time in Marrakech. He is happy to arrange anything for you and has great suggestions for excursions and other things to see and do around the city; when one excursion was a little to expensive for us to attend he spent his own time calling around for us to find a cheaper deal so we wouldn't have to miss out - and succeeded! Abdelkarim is a fantastic host and will happily attend to anything you need with great friendliness, also full of useful advice and answers to any questions you may have so don't hesitate to ask! His knowledge of Marrakech and of all Morocco is a valuable asset to the Riad. Sana makes a fantastic housekeeper and an even better cook with one of the most beautiful smiles we have ever seen; make sure you eat at least one dinner at the Riad as you wont be dissapointed; it was in fact better than any restaurant we ate at during our stay! Couldn't recommend this place any more, great location just outside the madness of the souks but easily walked to from the square - we always felt safe and never had any trouble getting to/from the Riad. Bab Lakhmiss was a huge factor contributing to the enjoyment that we had during our time in this amazing country and we couldn't thank them enough!
The staff was great! We loved how comfortable they made us feel. Julian helped us arranged a few activities and provided us which trips and tricks around the madina which made our trip pretty easy. The food at the riad is amazing :) I would defiantly stay here again! Thanks for a great morrorican experience!
Excellent value. Really friendly staff. A bit complex to find, so it's recommended to organise a taxi with the owner - 15€ to pick you up at the airport. Otherwise, google map is your friend.
We felt instantly welcomed with this Riad - so much so we returned 3 times during our visit and used it as our Marrakesh base. Julien and his hardworking sidekick Kerim (apologies!) were fantastic, showing us the best way to get round town without getting (too) lost, and cooked us two amazing meals (best beef out there). Breakfasts were brilliant with fresh Orange juice, pastries, pancakes and of course bread and copious amounts of mint tea, and the team were able to meet our annoying early starts without any issues. Also the most comfiest beds of our whole Morocco experience! Thanks again :)
The Riad is situated in the heart of the Medina, a short walk to all the sights yet still being quiet and peaceful in the evenings. Julien the host is fantastic and will care for all your needs and can organise everything for you from a hammam to a trip into the desert. He also gave great recommendations on shops and advice on haggling! The best tagine in Marrakesh, make sure you eat in the riad one night!
As it's small, there are no extra facilities such as pool, spa etc. but everything you want is on your doorstep and it's a lovely haven to return to. It's a 20 min walk from Place Jemaa el Fna
There's a wonderful ambiance in this riad - it's small and relaxed and cosy, with candles lighting it at night. The staff were so hospitable and accommodating and outlined all their tips and advice on arrival. Breakfast on the rood was particularly lovely too - start your day with home made pancakes and listen to the birds singing before you head out to the action of the medina!
That we had to go home.... :-(
We came for 7 days and everyday we felt like we were at home! it was so peaceful after coming in from the souks. A tranquil place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the streets of marakech!! The breakfast was nice and the meals were amazing!! better than any restaurant!! The staff treated us like family and helped with anything we needed to make us at home. definitely a place I would recommend to anyone.thanks for having us!!
