We had a superb time at this wonderful unique Riad. John is a superb host and could not have been more helpful. His knowledge of the area really helped us navigate our way around without getting lost. The staff were also excellent and were really friendly and attentive. You'll be hard pressed to find a better place to stay anywhere in the world, a truly great Moroccan experience!
We were so impressed by the attention to detail at the riad. John's local knowledge and recommendations really made our trip and the hotel itself is beautiful. We had a hammam at the hotel which was incredible, and we also booked a lovely day trip up to waterfalls in the Atlas Mountains through the hotel. The staff were so friendly and the breakfasts were excellent. You can even get your hands on alcohol here! Couldn't recommend highly enough.
Going home to rainy London.
Upon arrival we were greeted by John, the owner, he offered us mint tea and Moroccan pastries; they were delicious. Our room was beautifully decorated, as was the entire Riad and provided a tranquil place to relax away from the bustle and hustle of Marrakesh. It was in a brilliant location, only a short walk away from the Souks and other points of interest. John even provided us with a map and sat down to talk us through where the nice places to visit were and how to get to certain places. This was extremely helpful. On the second day, we went on a trip to the Atlas mountains and stopped at a few places (Berber village etc) on the way, all arranged by John and staff. It was a brilliant day trip and would highly recommend. It really felt like a home away from home, the staff were lovely and were always on hand to help or get drinks. The breakfast was incredible, i've never seen something so big and it was all freshly made and divine. We stayed at the end of june to the beginning of July so we arrived in Ramadam, this didn't impact the running of the Riad and it was a lovely experience to see everyone breaking fast and being called for prayer. I've never written a review before but this place deserves my praises! I will definitely be returning next year and would 100% recommend.
Everything about this hotel was fantastic! The host and owner John made us feel at home and has a wealth of information about sights and restaurants etc in Marrakech and Morocco. Centrally located in the Kasbah area of the medina, it's a welcome refuge from both the heat and bustle of central Marrakech with the pool and roof terrace only adding to its appeal. Very highly recommended.
The Riad was very tastefully decorated in the local style. The staff were very attentive, and bought you pastries and mint tea on your arrival, whilst John (the owner) welcomed us and told us a bit more about Marrakech. The bed was made in the morning, and then turned down and adorned with rose petals in the evening which was a lovely touch! The staff were very friendly and were always around for advice/mint tea! The terrace was a lovely place just to read and relax, and it was lovely having breakfast up there. Just a word of warning, the breakfasts are huge, and you won't need much more to eat for the rest of the day!! Marrakesh is very busy, and so it was lovely at the end of the day to escape back to the Riad, where it was so tranquil. The rooms themselves were also beautiful. We will definitely be back.
I had an amazing experience at Riad Hikaya! Within an hour of booking the riad, I received an email from Jane (the riad proprietor) who introduced herself and offered her assistance in arranging any activities I wished to pursue during my 6-night stay. After several email exchanges, a loose itinerary was drawn up and I was ready to explore Marrakech. Jane and John (Jane’s husband) arranged for my pick-up at the airport to take me to the riad. Upon my arrival, I met John and his amazing staff. I was greeted with mint tea and some delightful Moroccan snacks. John and I discussed the history of the riad, both our backgrounds and what brought me to Marrakech. He really made me feel comfortable. I was introduced to Loubna, his assistant, who then gave me a tour of the riad. The riad is just beautiful and it was great to see that John and Jane focused on capturing the vibe of Morocco and encapsulating it this little oasis. I was led to my room where my belongings had already been placed. Again, the room was beautiful and included an air conditioning unit that worked very well during my stay. After I settled in, I met with John again and he provided me with a map of the city and gave me a lot of helpful information about what to see and how to best explore Marrakech. The riad itself is just south of the Jemaa el Fna Square, about a 15-minute walk. I walked the route each day to explore the souk and museums and the medina itself. The free breakfast was more than plentiful. And it was a great way to start the day before heading out to explore the city. Dinners were also amazing! The chicken tagine and chicken couscous were outstanding! Meals were served on the beautiful terrace. Jane suggested I do the cookery class offered by another local riad. I am so glad I did. It was a great class and I now feel comfortable cooking in a tagine. I also took advantage of the hamman on the property. The massage and the hammam treatment were just amazing.
Everything was wonderful. The staff, the place and the food were amazing and outstanding. As frequent world travellers, this is one of the best place we stayed in across the world. And coming home to lose together in such a paradise in Marrakech felt magical.
Great staff - great space
John and his staff could not have been more helpful from organising trips to even printing off lost boarding cards. It took John nearly 5 years to renovate and build his "Riad Hikaya" and it is an Oasis of quality and tranquillity and the breakfasts were as good as it gets and the evening meals were authentic Good Moroccan dishes - well done to all his staff. Nothing to dislike at all
This is a fabulous Riad, beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable, and in a great location. The owner John designed and built the place over 7 years and knows the city and the best places to go and will happily organise whatever you want to do - the ultimate host. We have never experienced such attentive yet understated service, the owner and staff are just charming - they make you feel like a part of the family. I stayed for 4 nights with my wife and 2 children and we loved it. You should not consider another Riad, this is perfect!
