we really liked this riad. to the main square you have to walk 15 min through the souks. the staff was really nice and helpful, the owner Jean-Pierre told us important things about the people and how to behave. Ahmed, the i would call it night guard fulfilled every wish we had. the room was typically maroccan-style and perfectly clean and comfortable. the riad has a terrace, where you can overlook the city. breakfast is also typiccal maroccan-style with pancakes, bread, confiture, orange jus and coffee. mint tea will be served at any time for free. wifi is not as strong to have a connection in the room, but as you are on vacation you might deal with it. but in the common room in the ground area the signal is perfectly fine. we would always recommend this riad and will come back at any time.
shower is not very strong, but this is a common problem in marroco.
Warm welkome and excellent service In a nice street in the medina, very safe Hafida makes the most fantastic tajines forond a nice price
The owner, Jean-Pierre, speaks English. He sat down with us and provided a great deal of local knowledge on how to get to the main square, how best to haggle, prices for taxis, where to eat, etc. His great insight and helpfulness made all the difference to our time in Marrakech. Staff were all friendly and willing to help. The entire riad is beautifully decorated and everything in the room worked very well. The aim of this riad is not high-flown luxury. What it is, is the best stop for travellers in Marrakech who want to get into the thick of it and have the best and truest experience possible.
Location was great, not too far from the souk and square. There's a local market in the street every night. Jean-Pierre is lovely and helpful giving local knowledge and advise of things to be wary of. The staff are always to hand offering 'Moroccan whisky' and excursions.
Breakfast could be a little more varied.
The staff was great, always eager to help and to answer any single question we had.
Easy access by car or taxi Good air conditioning
A little far from medina, 20 min walk WiFi signal very weak in rooms No fridge in the room
We were the only guests in the riad but this didn't lower the quality of service. The owner was excellent, made us very welcome and made us feel like we were in our home not a riad. The staff were again excellent always ready to help whenever asked.
The best of the Riad is the behaviour of the pesonal. First day they explain you all (how to move, social habits...). They are always very kind and helpfull.
- Quite far from the square (20 minutes walk). - The room need a little remodeling. - It would be great if all rooms had TV.
The staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. A taxi was arranged to collect me from the airport upon my arrival. I highly recommend this riad.
- Staff is excellent, specially the Riad manager. - Well located, not too far from the main square - The mint tea offered at any time - The roof top
- Could be a little bit cleaner
Very good value for money. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The proprietor even organised a taxi to collect me from the airport free of charge. I would definitely stay here again.
once you find it, everything's perfect. superbe room, friendly owner and staff, wonderful little riad off the beaten track. perfect if you want to stay away from the chaos of the place jemaa and all its surrounding crowded souks. but not too far out either. in the north part of the medina, close to fountain, medrasa and maison de la photographie (lovely to visit), not far from jardin majorelle. nice interior decor (the blue tadlakt bathroom was beautiful), plenty of the a la menthe, very fast wi-fi. this riad has all you can ask while visiting marrakech. will come back. highly recommended. loved the cats!!!
I stayed here with my adult son for 4 nights and we really enjoyed it. The staff were really helpful, the location amid the hustle and bustle of locals was excellent and the breakfasts were simple but good. It helped that we liked cats as we shared the Riad with several, and would definitely recommend.
Tasted the true essence of marrakesh warts and all Staff were extremely helpful. Nothing too much trouble Close to medina and souks Gave us a lift back to airport
Very busy neighbourhood but this is the reality of day to day living and Moroccan culture Our stay coincided with wet cold weather so sometimes felt a bit cold in room but had blowers so warmed up ok. No televisions in room
We stayed un the Riad for 4 nights and everything was perfect, especially the atention given by the personal, they helped us with the booking of activities, recommendations and it was wonderful to maintain conversaciones and changes of oppinions with them.
The friendliness of the owner and the staff. Very helpful with everything.
The staff was extremely nice. Really made us feel at home and went out of their way to help with everything.
Nothing at all. Great place, great people.
Really charming Ryad in Marrakech. Atmosphere family-like. The owner Jean-Pierre is very friendly, openminded and extremely helpful with everything. It has always been a pleasure to talk with him about everything in Morocco. Finally he gave us a free ride to the railway station.
The Riad Ida Ou Balou is a perfect Riad to stay in Marrakech, the bathroom and the room were very clean and cleanned daily. The bed in the room was very confortable and the room very good. The breakfast was very good too.The interior courtyard where we had the breakfast a rested after having a long day walking in the city is very confortable and quiet.Jean Pierre the owner was very nice, kind and warm, giving us all kind of advices about the city and giving us free mint tea when we come back to the Riad after visiting the city. The employees who work there are very nice too. Near the riad there are a fantastic place to buy Kefta Sandwiches and all kind of show to buy things.Riad Ida Ou Balou was one of the best experience in Marrakech and a perfect place to stay.If I visit Marrakech,I'll stay in Riad Ida Ou Balou again.
Hospitality and advice from riad owner and on site manager was very informative, helpful, and reassuring in the marrakesh madness. Quieter location away from central square, although you do need to walk a little or catch a cab. Lovely peaceful downstairs central court for relaxed breakfast, and rooftop shaded lounge area for chilling.
The best part of the hostel was the staff, Hisham. Very helpfull person. Breakfast is good.
I don't like to eat sweet things like honey and jam at breakfast, so at least one kind of cheese can make the breakfast richer. It takes 15-20 min. walk to center, not much but some people bother and wants money during walking.
Nice, quiet place, friendly English and French speaking owner, friendly staff. Air conditioning, nice terrace, not overcrowded. It was pity to leave the hotel the last morning (we already felt there like at home... :-))
Fantastic staff, great location ,real gem in the heart of the city highly recommend
Having to leave
It was really a perfect stay: nice staff and we felt really welcome. They help you with arranging a lot of things: day trip to essaouira, go to the public hamam, transfer to the airport and so on. Breakfast was delicious! Definitely come back here!
Jean Pierre (the french owner) and Hisham (the local guy who works for him) looked after us so well when we stayed for them for 5 nights. They gave us advice to make sure we werent totally ripped off by taxi drivers and vendors in the souks ;). Hisham made us more (complementary) Mint teas than we can could count, The rooms were lovely and typically morroccan styled. The best bit though, was the chill out area one the ground floor, perfect for escaping marrakech(which you will need to do). The location is a 20min walk or 3euro taxi to the main square, but i think the neighbourhood was so much freindlier and local that i am so so glad we did not stay too close to the mainsquare. They provided a free transfer from the airport because we stayed 5nights. The breakfast was good, tea, fresh oj , breads and jams. If your more muesli and fruit for brekky kind of people like us, you can also pop down the road for some fruit and yoghurt at the little stores.
