Joel & staff were fantastic. The Ryad is perfectly located to explore Marrakesh, a short walk to Jmaa el Fna & the Souks. The decoration is great and the service was outstanding. Be aware that taxis cannot get to the zone where the hotel is, so you will be dropped off a few blocks from there. It can be very difficult to find if you don't arrange a pick up with the hotel. When you have a pick up arranged, the taxi will leave you at a small plaza and a person will put your bags in an open cart & you need to follow him to the hotel. This can be stressing if you don't know it beforehand, since your bags seem to be exposed for anybody to take them and you don't know where the guy is taking you. Anyway, just be aware of that and enjoy the walk through the alleys, motorcycles, horses, etc to finally relax in the Karmela :-)

Lovely Riad in beautiful surroundings. Very restful Only problem was we had booked a family room months in advance, but when we arrived we were told that because another family wanted to extend their stay in the rooms we had booked, we were then given two separate rooms in completely different parts of the riad. At no point were we given an apology or asked if this was ok, only being told that we would not be charged the extra cost, which I found an insult. I had spent hours searching for rooms where we could stay together as a family.

Riad Karmela is a beautiful tranquil space in the middle of a mad city. It's close to the main square, the souks and the palaces. The alleys and backstreets are bustling and full of people and motorbikes wizzing past you left right and centre. It's a fabulous experience to walk the streets of Marrakech, but so wonderful to come "home" and put your feet up. Once inside you could be in a faraway spa, so quiet, peaceful and beautiful. The food rivals any fine restaurant, the rooms full of character, and the staff always there to look after your every need. The Hammam and treatments are fabulous - I can't praise this Riad highly enough, all 9 of us loved it.

This place is amazing; there is a real spirit to the place. Everything has been thought of and the attention to details is astonishing. From the start you are treated first class with a mint tea and local pastries. Then they show you the Riad and explain you how it works in Marrakesh (negotiating in the souk, what to see and how to get there and what are the fares). The hotel is decorated with a very good taste of local craftwork. There are a lot of lights and space (it's actually 3 Riads merged altogether). Our room (Meriem suite) was very spacious and again decorated very nicely. The roof terrace is amazing, big and with loads of sofa and relaxing chairs, there is even a small Jacuzzi. It is located in the old town in a safe neighbourhood, with a few local restaurants (Naima for instance), 10mn from the main place Jemaa el Fna. The place is a peace heaven; the contrast to the busy, noisy street is net. The breakfast was honest with local jam (Strawberry and "Barbary figues") some pastries, local homemade orange juice etc.. They offer food in the evening which was good.(tagine dishes). You can book Massage, Hammam, in the hotel and organize trips to the local Berber mountains. A very good experience with no negative points ( and it is pretty rare for us not to find something to criticise).

All staffs are very very kindly! Interior designs are the moroccan style which make us invite into Morocco.really nice. Riad Karmela has a good location for shopping at Souk and sightseeing, But, we could not find easily their address at first visit, we advise seriously you to ask picking up at airport!

We found Riad Karmela highly recommended on a few sites and despite being a little nervous about it being so 'in the thick of it' decided to jump straight in with both feet and experience authentic Marrakech! It is situated in the media and a 2-4mins walk from the energy and noise of the souks. These were a little too much to take on our first day, we were completely over-stimulated by sights, sounds, smells, people and buzz! But not in a negative way, the difference in culture was just such a shock, and the next day we were much more prepared and got properly involved. But throughout our time in Marrakech, the reassuring knowledge that we had the Riad to escape back to, an oasis of peace, calm and tranquility with friendly helpful staff, absolutely beautiful rooms, decor, food and a real, traditional Moroccan feel was comforting to say the least. They organised us airport transfers (highly recommended!!) an amazing dinner on our first night, advised us on how to deal with Marrakech life, recommended us excellent places to eat and we also had a great hammam and massage whilst there as well. Everyone should experience Marrakech at least once, and we would highly recommend Riad Karmela when you do! This is the first place I can think of that I've stayed and not had a bad word to say about it. The only thing I would warn is that if you are of a nervous disposition and prefer wide avenues and touristy areas, with home comforts at every corner then staying in this sort of location would not be for you. However, why are you even considering experiencing Marrakech in that case?! Jump in and enjoy!

The Riad is located in the historic part of Marrakesh. We were very impressed with the overall experience. I cannot stress enough how kind and helpful the staff were. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the beautiful patio in the middle of the Riad was a perfect spot to sit down and relax in the evenings. The food was excellent too whilst still being cheaper than in decent restaurants in town.

What was not to like? We liked everything about Karmela. Manager and staff were very helpful when we arrived and through out our stay. Definitely book taxi through Riad or you will struggle to find it but once you know where it is it's quite easy to find. Trip to Essaouira is worth going on and it's cheaper if you share taxi with other guests. Definitely recommend this Riad to anyone!! Can't find any faults with Karmela or it's staff. Not sure what they could do better as they are doing an excellent job at the moment!!

All the obvious things, eloquently and accurately described on the riad's own website: good location, spaciousness, atmosphere, attractiveness and apparent authenticity of renovation, etc. But particularly the presentational efficiency - from the website itself, through the clear booking procedure, organisation of airport transfer, provision of information - both in person by Joel and by back-up dossier - arrangement of taxis, trips, special events (New Year's Eve), and especially the 'Karmela' directional signs - possibly illegal, but hugely appreciated! It all goes to instil a confidence that, in a situation that could induce anxiety, one is going to get 'what it says on the tin' - and one does. It was our first visit to Marrakesh, so comparisons are difficult, but we didn't encounter anything we disliked.

We stayed at road karmela for new year. The riad is in a great position, the staff are really helpful and overall the service was excellent. We found it a wonderful, peaceful retreat from the hustle of the town. Breakfasts were good and we went on a wonderful excursion organised by the road at a really reasonable price. Highly recommended.

This Riad is a true haven from the hustle and bustle of the medina in Marrakech. The design is very attractive, and there are plenty of sitting areas to disappear and relax (including a very nice terrace area). The staff were generally very helpful, and would organise tours. The dinner was very nice and the rooms quite comfortable. We felt very uncomfortable and a little unsafe coming back to the Riad after dark. Despite the staff telling us that walking back was extremely safe, on both of the recommended routes back from the main square on two different nights we were hassled by numerous groups of youths. For our other nights we decided to enjoy Marrakech by day and relax in the solitude of the Riad after dark.

This is a lovely Riad right in the middle if the Medina(souks). Beautifully decorated and very quiet once you are inside. The staff are very polite and helpful at all times. Breakfast was great as was the mint tea. I was welcomed by Bouchra with a lovely mint tea and traditional sweets. She was also invaluable in her advice in haggling techniques and the sort of prices one should expect to pay etc The courtyards and common rooms are lovely and there is a log fire as well as wifi through out the Riad. A perfect place to stay only about 10 minutes walk from the Jma El Fenna Sqaure.

Great location , right in the Medina. About 7 minutes walk to the main square. We got lost a couple of times but this was part of the fun. It may have been easier for me as I am French so possibly easier to detect the 'faux guides' and ask directions. Staff v helpful and welcoming. We had the family suite :HAroun. Nicely furnished and very clean although the showers could have been better but this is a trivial point. It had a very pleasant, calm atmosphere with several peaceful courtyards ( covered ) and terraces . The riad was very quiet . The breakfast was excellent and plentiful.Almost beyond fault.

I loved the location of the place so close to the main square, monuments and souks. The tranquility and relaxation found once inside made us feel It was a paradise (after coming from the noisy Marrakech streets!!!. Staff were very nice. Breakfast was varied and good enough and the two girls serving it were very attentive and made sure anything you needed was there. The place is absolutely gorgeous and as the 99% of the ryads the place is hard to find the first day. I would recommend you hire the hotel´s pick up service upon your arrival and departure. This is it highly recommended

It was very welcoming and even possible to becollected from the airport by prior arrangement. The staff were all very helpful and polite and the room was stunning. Being in the Medina proved very convenient for us. Breakfasts were delicious and copious and our dinner there the best we ate during our stay. The layout was intriguing and well presented and nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff. A lovely, restful stay.

“The location was fantastic... close to the Medina but far enough away to escape the madness! The SO lounge was a great entertainment venue and well placed adjacent to the hotel. The food was a little pricey especially the breakfast! Beds were amazingly comfortable and rooms were well furnished and very clean. All in all a fantastic hotel and I would both recommend it and return again myself.” Victoria, Leeds |
