Set in the Medina of Fès, just a 1-minute walk from the Batha Museum, Dar Al Madina Al Kadima offers guestrooms in a riad.
Score from 217 reviews Excellent
This Riad has a 24-hour front desk and features air-conditioned rooms with a Moroccan décor, a patio and free Wi-Fi throughout. Fès Train Station is 6 km away and the Medina is only 1 km away.
Score from 180 reviews Excellent
This traditional riad is 50 metres from the Medina’s main street and 600 metres from the Dar El Makhzen Royal Palace.
Score from 133 reviews Wonderful
The Palais De Fès Dar Tazi is a charming, family-run guest house offering gourmet cuisine, a sincere, warm welcome and quality accommodations overlooking the medina.
Score from 179 reviews Wonderful
The riad is absolutely beautiful, room was huge, lovely staff and shower was awesome! We'd love to stay here again!
The wifi wasn't always consistent.
Location, helpfulness of staff, flexibility in helping me check out at 3am and get my luggage to the taxi. Breakfast was very nice.
Wifi was very slow.
Convenient airport pickup service (better to catch a taxi when arriving by train). The Riyad is situated in medina but not very close to the center, so the surroundings are pretty "civilized". Be sure to check the open terrace! You can enter there freely.
It was very cold in my room and in a hotel overall. Heating was very poor. Wi-fi connection was also bad in the room (good at the ground floor).
Riad L'Artiste has the best wifi in our Morocco journey. I was also impressed by the spacious room they give us. Said, the manager, helped us book the Medina tour guide as well as the driver for the Volublilis-Mekness day tour. Overall, I was very satisfied with this lovely Riad.
If being picky, I have to say the location is not close to the Medina. However, you can easily take a taxi to commute. Unlike the taxi drivers in Marrakech, the drivers in Fes are very nice. They use meter and never cheat tourists.
the staff speaks good English and helped a lot; decoration in the Riad is beautiful.
avoid the room on the ground floor!!! The toilet is very very very smelly and make the bedroom a disgusting odour!!! You will feel like sleep in a dirty sewer. The staff tried to close the lid, pour the unblocker down the drain but it still smells. Beside, there is no window can be opened to let the fresh air in unless you leave the door open! Btw, the dinner is overpriced.
The staff is extreem helpfull and the Riad is beautifull from the inside.
Beautiful old riad but needs better maintenance... And a bit more effort. Good breakfast, decent (yet pricey) dinner if you want to stay in and very attentive staff that will try to help out.
Everything lacks in effort, from the decoration to the lighting. Staff, despite being very attentive, do not have basic info (such as where to go for dinner!) to make your stay more enjoyable. Beds are really stone hard - great for your back, but not comfy if you are not used to it. And there is nowhere to have a coffee or meal nearby, although I guess being close to one of the medina gates is good if you don't want to be pushing your suitcases around upon arrival.
When se arrived the manager upgraded us to a bigger room (a suite) for the same price since they didn't had our room ready. Said, the manager, was very nice all the time. Giving us lunch even if it was a little bit late and giving us an early breakfast at 6h30 (because we had to take a train) which he himself prepared. Riad was excellent:decoration and comfort. A mint tea was offered to us upon arrival.
The map of the medina that he gave us was poor. No streets or name of monuments were written on it so it was very difficult for us to explore the medina without getting lost so we were almost forced to ask people for directions. I suggest to give a better map to tourists. At checkout he didnt give us any bill (maybe because printer was not working) and price of lunch was quite expensive taking into account the final price that we paid. Wifi signal was a little low upstairs.
The inside of the Riad was absolutely beautiful. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the quality of the food they prepare was excellent. Easy access to a main road to pick up petite taxis. Close also to the Fes mall and shopping but some distance from the main part of the medina
From the roof top terrace you can smell the tanneries, prehaps not a problem for many but as vegans was off putting for us. The bathroom in our room was deadly with slippery floors and steep steps.
Beautiful traditional riad with fabulous bedrooms.
Difficult to find. Even when dropped on road close by, no signs to help navigate laneways. Too many touts about. Meal in riad overpriced.
riad restoration amazing - very beautiful!! lovely owner and staff - very lovely and gentle, calm, quiet and in no way pushy; location good - easy to find and great for parking if you have a car;
bedroom far too dark; internet could be better; more shade on roof terrace and all light bulbs in order would be welcome
Very welcoming and helpful staff in a beautiful and traditional environment. An amazing value for the experience
This place is just a couple of blocks from the Medina. I really loved it, it was absolutely beautiful. Taxis can drive right to the front door. Our taxi didn't drive right to the door, he let us out about a block away, and a local kid walked us around and around making it seem like it was far away... but eventually we got there! Excellent food, we had dinner there one night too. Friendly staff. They can arrange a medina guide. We got a guide the first day and then felt completely fine to get lost in the medina on our own the next day. Anyway I really liked this hotel, I thought it was so wonderful. I would stay here again, definitely.
I felt like we needed to be quiet all the time... you could hear most things that were happening in the place. But that's okay!
The riad is very beautiful, almost like a museum. Very traditionally decorated. The rooms are spacious and also very beautiful with large beds. The riad is situated at the Bab Jdid, which is outside of the old medina and therefor very quiet. Said, the owner, is very friendly and always at your service. From the previous reviews, where people were complaining about the WiFi signal, I think they changed something, because the WiFi signal was very strong and reachable everywhere in the riad with fast internet connection. The breakfast was okay, not very special but good enough. Parking space near the riad for only 3 euro's a day.
We booked the Laura Hind room. A very beautiful room, but in the summer the room can be very hot. Also the air conditioning unit couldn't cool the room properly, maybe because the unit was not good dimensioned for this room or it just simply malfunctioned. Nevertheless we could change room without any hesitation.Great service!
Bad ventilation, almost no windows, bad smell in the room, really poor breakfast and it wasn't fresh, the matress was uncomfortable
The breakfast is excellent and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Said the owner recommended a very good guide for the medina at my request.
Ask for a lower down room in the summer, the higher up rooms get very hot.
Extremely welcoming and helpful people Mae our stay doubly enjoyable. The facilities were excellent, the food was very good (only ate breakfasts in, we went out for everything else!) and the Riad itself was beautiful. Traditional Arabic / morrocan decor, with artistically designed interiors. Cannot thank the people enough for their friendliness, help and good humour. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone
The beds in our room were on the hard side, but it didn't stop us sleeping. The location is not the easiest to find so I'd suggest getting them to book you a taxi for your first arrival until you have your bearings.
Beautiful riad with friendly staff. Nice spacious rooms.
Location was fine, although next time i would stay more near bab boujloud.
Staff were great! Omar was always incredibly helpful.
It was a struggle to have wifi in the room- really reliable in public area though. Location is right inside the medina which has its pros and cons
Beautiful riad. Rooms were spacious. Breakfast was okay, nothing special. Coffee was terrible. So we opted for tea the second morning. Tea was fine
Don't book a guided tour via the hotel. It's very expensive and the tourguide really get's annoyed with you if you don't buy anything at the shops (or as he calls it: berber home, berber pharmacy, etc)
I have stayed in Fes before, and while the other Riad/Dar was just as central, Riad L'Artiste (once you have found it the first time, as most taxi drivers will claim to know where everything is in Fes just to get a fare) is far more easily accessible and not in the middle of a maze due to being near the one Medina gate with (some) road access. Staff, including the owner, were excellent, but a special mention to Aziz, who is a star and looked after us well morning, noon and night! Wi-Fi is far better on the ground floor, but then we didn't come to Morocco to be constantly on smartphones!
Beautiful riad conveniently located just inside the medina, easy to find and far from the hustle and bustle of more chaotic areas. Said is very professional and helpful: he even found us a top notch tourist guide (Skali, ask about him!) to visit the medina. The suit we had was huge and elegant, while the breakfast was also good.
There weren't shampoo and showergel in the bathroom (we had to ask for it), and the shower drain was blocked.
The Riad was excellent and the bedrooms large and comfortable (we had the Ceder Suite which we loved). The breakfast is a nice mix of European and Moroccan food and the evening meals are really good. Said was an excellent host! He even arranged a taxi for our day trip to Volubilis. Location is great with only a 5 minute walk to the Medina. Excellent value for money. If you want another local restaurant we would recommend Dar El Garcia.
Good, quiet location with an easy access to the center of medina. Riad is perfectly decorated in african styles. Each room has it`s own soul and story. Rooms are clean, big and cmofortable. Great foof terrace with a great view over the medina. Would highly recommend.
Nothing to do with the Riad, but you must be warned. Restaurants in Fes have few different pricelists with different prices. Do not except the first price list you get, ask for another with lower prices. Trust me, they have it. And the prices are half of the firs one`s...
The owner Said is very helpful. He did everything for us to have a great stay in the Riad. Very nice rooms and beautiful Riad.
the only small downside was the wifi that wasnt working in the rooms, only in the lobby. It was a ponctual problem with the wifi that im sure it is fixed by now.
