Score from 119 reviews Very good
Comfortable bed & shower
Very basic breakfast Staff does deals with family or friends for porters and eating out that is not in the visitor's interest Bit clinical feel to the riad Not easy to get to the Medina
The riad was beautiful, with an awesome terrace and a beautiful room (we stayed in the mezzanine room). The staff was accommodating and incredibly friendly and helpful, and set us up with a guide with very short notice. The riad is a comfortable hiding spot in a city that I really didn't enjoy too much!
The wifi was malfunctioning, it didn't work the whole time. I thought maybe a discount or some complimentary services would be in order, but no luck. I never would have booked the hotel without wifi, so the lack of it was disappointing. Wifi was very important for our trip as I needed to communicate with people on the next legs of our trip. In room snacks are expensive. I actually thought the soda in the refrigerator were complimentary, (as the previous two raids we stayed in were, I thought it how Moroccan riads worked!) each regular can of soda was 4 euros!! That was unexpected. Food was expensive. It was our most expensive meal of our entire trip, and not the best. It was good food, but not worth the cost. The biggest problem with this riad is where it's located. The physical location is great, but I did not like Fez, and this was echoed by many other travelers we met along the way.
I loved the main courtyard with its water feature, black and white and silver decor as well as carved wood, and white tracery, and the rooftop terrace was perfect too. Staff was super nice and didn't even complain when we overslept and showed up at 9.55 am for breakfast!
Our room had a bathroom that provided little privacy, though I suspect there might have been architectural restrictions when restoring the building. Perhaps a solid wall instead of a see-through one.
Tayb welcomed us with tea, late at night . Very friendly!!
They charge 3Euros for a SMALL bottle of water. TOO MUCH !! A SHAME ...
Superb rooms, service and ambience. Quite spectacular.
Noise - every sound echoes and the street noise made restful sleep an impossibility. A wedding party at a nearby riad until 5am was incredibly loud. Some soundproofing or earplugs would have been welcome.
This is just a magic place, a piece of heaven with the most amazing view of Fes. A memorable experience thanks to a great place, location and amazing staff !!! Simply above my expectations my morning breakfast and wonderful dinner !!! The best
That we had to leave !!!
Location, view from the top, atmosphere of the riad, the hammam, the fact that whatever we wanted the staff was keen to get it.
Good location, big rooms and nice breakfast on beautiful roof terrace. Parking is close and cheap.
Wifi was pretty OK. Bed was large comfortable. Dinner in our room was relaxing.
The hotel listing says "with private parking on site." In fact, parking is on a tiny, busy street about a block away. I was assured the security of our vehicle was OK because the neighborhood "boss" was watching the car. When leaving the following morning, we were stopped by several young men demanding to be paid for parking. Would have been nice if the desk had informed us of this 'custom.'
Great place; a peaceful oasy in the city. Route to the Riad is very well indicated along the street (very useful in morocco where it's easy to get lost at first), the room is huge, perfectly air-conditioned and furnished with every needs. Michael the owner, such as the entire staff, is cool and friendly. We had dinner up on the terrace: the food was excellent and the terrace is amazing. They plan journeys to chefchaouen and other attractions in the surrounding areas.
I would highly recommend riad Layla to everyone. The alia suite where we stayed blended 'morrocan' beauty with all modcons that one could want. A beautiful black tiled bathroom with ceiling shower and his and hers sinks. Every day rose petals (albeit fake) were arranged on our bed. The staff were incredibly jovial and friendly. Absolutely stunning view of fez and the surrounding mountains and perfectly far enough away from the main bustle of the medina but close enough that you could walk to any place of interest with ease. The hammam and massage were also very relaxing, though I don't think the massage is necessarily very expert- but certainly not bad!
If anything was less than perfect it is not worth mentioning here because the riad was absolutely incredible.
The Riad is beautiful, we had room named "mezzanine" - it was clean and stylish. Breakfast served on the rooftop and prepared by the Manager was delicious. The rooftop offered amazing views all around the Fes (Fes is really hilly). Location is great near "Batha" which is close to the old Medina. The staff is friendly and helpful.
nothing - this was 100% stay ;o)
- Friendly and helpful staff - Great view from terrasse - Located within the medina
- Access very difficult (when arriving with your own car, ask a taxi driver to guide you to the place and discuss the price beforehand, don´t follow any motorcyclist which are black guides) - Offered massage in the riad is not professional, don´t spend the money - Orientation within the city is difficult, so get you an official guide but discuss price, what you will visit and TIME of tour beforehand
The riad is very well located and the comfort is superb. You feel like a Sheik. The owner and the manager are very friendly and make you feel at home. Enjoy the meals at the Terrasse with a view of the city. Don't forget to use the hamman. You won't regret it.
The Riad offers great design combining maroccan authenticity with a new modern touch. Great restauration of an old Riad in the medina of Fès within walking distance to all the tourist sights while being quiet and charming. Spacious, clean rooms and bathrooms. Very friendly and helpful staff! Home-made breakfast on the rooftop with fantastic views overlooking all of Fès. Since we came by car, we had to trust the guardians in the streets approx. 3 mins from the Riad... everything was fine and there was only a 2 EUR fee for (as they say) 24h surveillance.
Friendly helpful staff, huge room.
WIFI was terrible.
Staff were simply excellent and so much helpful from any point of view! Rooms are wonderful, the terrace with a spectacular view over the medina is definitely a plus for the Riad
Our room had an adjacent bathroom belonging to a different room from which we got loud noises and voices at night and in the morning as if it was inside our room. Possibly due to a very very thin wall between our room and the bathroom
The staff there are very helpful. They picked us up and showed the way of medina for us and even brought us to the bus station to buy ticket at night for the next day which we appreciated a lot. They also prepared a simple breakfast for us though we needed to leave very early in the morning. The breakfast is excellent and the rooms are beautifully decorated. We enjoyed the days in Fes. Thanks.
Dinner is a bit expensive though very delicious.
Room on roof with lots of stairs to climb not suitable for over 50. Prices of food and drink are expensive, bad smell in room.
Kindness of Michel and his staff; you will have all the information and help that you need to enjoy the city. Transfer from and to the airport. Availability of fine home made Moroccan food and good wines. Breakfast at the terrace, relax assured. Near of the city circuits and markets, 15 minutes by foot to Place Batha. Inside the Medinah, to live the real Fes. And you can take a taxi one block ahead. Be prepared to enjoy a different experience, away for the standard tourism. Thank you very much Michel and Souki for all your help and kindness, to have a great time there.
Nothing at all.
The riad was very nicely decorated - contemporary Moroccan style. The breakfast is served on the terrace which is a nice escape from the city buzz. Location is close to the edge of medina, but still close to markets and restaurants.
The room wasnt´t very clean. The shower didn´t work properly and the water was lukewarm all the time
-The Terrace of our Room it was very nice -Very Comfortable Bed -Beautiful Design -Sufficient breakfast
We are italian. Sometimes the communication was a problem but it is a common situation across the country (most people do not speak English)
no privacy on the toilet, no door to close
Staff were extremely helpful and welcoming, we enjoyed a lovely meal and a wonderful stay in Riad Layla. Rooms were well decorated and pleasant, even had rose peals on the bed to welcome us. Location is very central (definitely get a guide for the medina otherwise you will never get out!), is not too far into the labyrinth of the medina to make night time walking an issue but we did eat at the Riad so didn't test this out. Rooftop view and dining is delightful, is very quiet and calm and provided a good place to relax and enjoy tea or a glass of wine (always a bonus in a riad) after a day of sightseeing.
In the mezzanine room the toilet is pretty much opposite the bed without a door on the bathroom, we are a close couple but this was still not ideal! Would recommend picking another room if this would bother you but would definitely recommend this Riad and Fes as a city.
Great location. An oasis in the middle of the medina. Reception at the Riad was very nice.
The bathroom is not separated from the room with a door. i.e. zero privacy. Anyone in the room can easily see into the bathroom and vice versa.
