Very helpful staff, friendly, as were the 2 lads who brought us to and from the airport, good guys. Thanks!
Not much to say here, traveling is about appreciating different cultures, and in this case, I can find no faults. (No i'm not being payed to say this! )
We wanted to get away from the 'international chain' type business hotels and experience something more personal. This lovely traditional Riad in the Medina of Marrakech has, quite rightly, excellent reviews on this website as well as other travel sites. The owners daughter, Sara, was extremely helpful and knowledgable and nothing seemed too much trouble for her. Breakfast on the roof terrace in the sun was lovely and the standard of the food generally was excellent - we ate in the riad twice during our 4 day stay. It's very useful to have free wifi in the riad to access Google maps but the signal was very weak/non-existent in our room on the first floor - but once outside the room door we had a full signal. The family have plans to extend the riad and this can only improve the experience.
This is not a neagtive about Riad Tammarakecht specifically rather than an observation on navigating around the location of the riad. The riad is in the middle of the Medina (although only a 5 minute walk to the nearest 'gate'. Sara drew a small map for us for the quickest and safest route to the main square. The issue is that the narrow alleyways do not generally have street names and after dark it is very easy to get disorientated. Although we never felt physically threatened, the groups of young men interested in where you want to get to and seemingly wishing to help (for a price of course) can be intimidating. Sara did warn us about this though. However on the occasion we did get lost a quick call to Sara's number put us on the right street and back to the riad.
This is an amazing place hidden down an alley in the Medina. Sara, who runs it, was an excellent and informative host. She was always ready to answer any questions. We had booked a meal for our first night and were so impressed by the food, we ate there every night. Breakfast was both filling and varied, we especially liked the fresh orange juice. We both loved the place!
The rooms and courtyard were beautifully decorated, it was a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech
small size leads to a better experience, location is hidden and needs concentration to find, but is well worth the effort.
This family run Riad is a peaceful, beautifully decorated magical oasis in the heart of the Old Town. Sara, the manager, is extremely helpful and a perfect example of the proverbial Moroccan hospitality. Sara's mother is an exceptional cook. We savored several of her delicious Morrocan dishes, prepared with love, with complex perfectly balanced taste, beautifully presented. We were treated like friends. It was a magical experience we will never forget. Thank you Sara and Fahima!
Be sure to accept Sara's offer to arrange pick up at the airport, as it is difficult to find the Riad in the maze of little alleys : it is only accessible on foot after being dropped off from cab at the Bab Ayhlen ( one of the old city gates)
Riad Tamarrakecht is a perfect place to stay in the heart of the Medina in Marrakech. The staff are incredibly accommodating and helpful, the rooms are comfortable and the food is delicious. The thing that really makes this Riad stand out is the owner Sara. The Medina can be overwhelming at times, and if you are not prepared you can end up having a stressful experience. Sara provides all her guests with the information needed to get the most out of Marrakech. She warned us about potential pitfalls, advised us on the best places to visit, drew us a detailed map of locations in relation to the riad, booked us taxis and arranged tours for us. Sara genuinely cares that her guests are enjoying their time in Marrakech and that's what makes this Riad special. If you want to visit the Medina this is the place to stay!
Bed was brill Ac in room Wifi in room Friendly helpful staff Breakfast was brill Really comfie stay Lovely waterfall in courtyard
Location - everything you might want to see or do is at least 25 mins walk (in the blistering heat) or a 9 min walk to the nearest gate then Dh50 cab ride. If we visit again I will spend the extra to be somewhere between jma el fna and the new town assuming you can get the same quality of interior and staff. Cats - there are cats everywhere in morocco, and I guess they deal with mice, snakes cockroaches and other nasties (didn't see a single sign of anything in 2.5 weeks). But this is the only Riad that kept a cat inside. We are both allergic and the courtyard often smelled of cat urine. Also there was some cat screeching in the night...
Popping with life and colour, Marrakech is a very different experience! Amidst the vibrancy of its narrow streets and souks Riad Tamarrakecht is an oasis of peace and charm. Knocking on its door leads into a different world again and provides a welcoming and restful haven. The rooftop terrace was a great bonus; very private and relaxing and perfect for enjoying the fantastic breakfasts and, when we ate at the Riad in the evening, the food and the ambience were memorable. Sara and her family are extremely helpful and thoughtful and made a great difference to our stay. There is so much to see and experience in Marrakech and Riad Tamarrakecht is a perfect base from which to explore. We were delighted with our choice and very pleased that we didn't opt to stay in the new part of Marrakech in an impersonal modern hotel.
The welcoming staff who were helpful and friendly throughout. The room was well appointed and comfortable. Breakfast on the roof terrace was very good. In general, the riad exceeded our expectations.
House is a beauty and location is good and just be ready to be lost on your first venture coming back to the Riad! Oooh..food is very good and I thought was pretty expensive as compared to the business area but ni. I take that back....freshky cooked by the Mom whom I met while she was cooking and the dad was a great person and architect..he designed the house and pretty darn good and lo and behold ever gracious Sarah who will spend time with you and talked to yiu where to go...lol and to her brother Moktar( ?) i believe was his name - very accommodating but had early signs to amnesia..lol..i arranged for a tour with him and had to wake up so early but I guess he forgot about it but that was fine as well..as i was not feeling good about my rigth ankle---caused from too much walkimg and getting lost!!! Overall...this is a great place to stay while in Makkarech...nice family and only thing......no wine!,,,
Hard to find it and highly highly recommend to pre arrange a airport/ train transport...it s inside the old medina and taxi can only bring to te gate...someone pick me up at the gate of the medina and walked for about 5 minutes or so....the uptake..total immersion as you arrive!!
Everything except for location is amazing. I had expected it to be nicely decorated, but it was far beyond my expectations. The bed was also comfortable and the owner and her family were all very kind. Would definitely stay there again.
located NOT in the centre of the old town; it takes about 15 minutes from Fna Square to the riad on foot. Strongly recommend to ask the owner, Sara, to pick you up on the first day, at Fna Square, or Bab Aylan, one of the east gates of medina.
The Riad is a family business so you really feel like a quest. Its extremely welcoming and is a little oasis in the middle of Marrakech.
The breakfast was good but unusual (cake, chapati bread, very local) it was also the same every day, apart from the last day. There was no choice but that being said it was more than enough to keep us going all day and was tasty.
Sara and brother Muktar will ensure that your stay will be wonderful from the initial tea on the rooftop terrace to their mom's excellent cooking. Their architect father designed the place and their mom decorated it with delectable pottery, fabrics and plants. The rose petals in the pool are a special touch.
Warm welcome and help with getting around and finding places you want to see. Clean and tidy with lots of hot water. Nice touches like fruit and water in the room and the luxury of a small fridge. Very helpful with arranging transport to the airport and nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
There was nothing to dislike.
We were given a warm and friendly greeting when when we arrived late from the airport. We were overwhelmed by the hospitality, Sarah immediately made us feel welcome. When she showed us to our rooms we were stunned with the beauty and attention to detail. This was a wonderful introduction to Morroco and we are looking foward to staying their again
This riad has a peaceful atmosphere, amazing staff and feels like a real sanctuary in the middle of Marrakech craziness. Would definitely recommend it to my family and friends.
the whole package
not long enough stay
We stayed here for 3nights. Very nice interior and service. Definitely recommend my friends to stay here in Marrakech.
Since many riads are bought and refurbished by outsiders was a bit weary about who would be running this place. Sustainable travel at its best. Local family, father with architectural background which explains the taseful refurbishment and decor. Pre-arrival contact with Sarah who remained helpful throughout with the appropriate advice on-request mode. Take up the offer of arranging someone to meet you at the nearest gate - very useful and also after orientation with Sarah's handrawn map you can manage the rest of your stay independent of any guides - whereas if you suddenly decide at midnight the night before that you want to go to the desert the next day at the crack of dawn - she can also sort out the driver and a guide in a matter of 5 minutes. Breakfast on the roof was the joy and a dipping pool was a relief for the overheated.
The 10 minutes walking distance to the souk/square was fun because it takes you further out of the tourist area on a route you feel comfortable on and get to know well. Felt safer here at night than in British cities.
Thanks to Sara and her family who were wonderful hosts. They are just so helpful and always friendly, speak very good English and were wonderful with our little son. The Riad is so beautifully furnished and decorated and by far exceeded our expectations. Everything was always clean and well maintained. The rooftop terrace is very relaxing and we really enjoyed the (very) little pool in the courtyard which was just perfect to cool down after a day in the Medina. Breakfast was the best we had in Morocco and dinner was also very nice.
Everything in the Medina happens around the main square which is little bit of a walk (about 15 min) but once you know your way, this is not a big issue. We always felt completely safe, even in the evening.
Service was fantastic. They were eager to help and were quick doing so. A very nice breakfast which I still miss today. The location is a perfect distance from the main square of Marrakech, not too far, not too close.
Our WiFi wasn't great on our second floor rooms, but oh well.
Friendly and great advice from Sara for finding our way about. Lovely roof garden and great food. Superb room. Good location - right in centre old town.
Occasional insects around while eating on roof garden: not a big issue and I'm being very picky but to make it even more perfect, could a trap be set up to get rid of the occasional unwelcome flying visitor?
the staff was very helpful, food was good, eating on terrace was nice, easy walk to the main square and all the shops
The riad is beautiful and the staff are very attentive, friendly and helpful. Rooms are beautifully decorated and breakfasts were delicious with an excellent selection of foods.
The riad can be a bit difficult to find at first as it is located on a side-street off the main road. However, we were provided with a very useful map on arrival which eliminated this issue.
