The staff, food and hospitality were amazing. We would highly recommend staying at this riad. The owner, Nelly, goes out of her way to make people feel welcome and relaxed.
Nelly was an outstading host with a giant heart from our arrival until the very last goodbye! She made us feel at home instantly and went to great lenghts to ensure her guests well-being. The location is superb right in the middle of the boiling city- yet- when you enter her riad you feel like you've just entered an oasis, a getaway from the world. The breakfast is delicious, the hamam most relaxing and Nelly does not hesitate to fulfill any of your wishes. I really recommend the Vanilla Sma to anyone (couple, families, singles and so on) because everyone is going to leave more than satisfied!!!!
I can say from the bottom of my heart: there is nothing I could possibly complain about!
Excellent food Excellent friendly service from all staff
nothing at all - wonderful place
Cleanliness Khadija and Sultana are amazing Breakfast Decor
Wish the bathroom in the rooms had a door
Gorgeous decor, very nice breakfast, comfortable beds, attentive staff. My bus from Tetouan arrived three hours late, and there was still someone waiting for me at the station to take me to the Riad. Nelly arranged a guide for fantastic excursion to the Atlas Mountains which I shared with a couple who were staying at the Riad. She went out of her way to suggest evening activities.
great service from the owner, who helped us plan the rest of our travels through morocco. Also great help with getting around marrakech.
Rizwan- looked after us with the greatest care. Nothing was too much for him. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the riad was like a second home. We were actually sad to leave. Sultana is a great cook, and a very gentle person. The breakfasts were great and rooftop was an excellent place to relax. The rooms are clean and cool and furnished with great taste. The place is an oasis of calm and cool in an otherwise hectic city. It is very close to the main square and attractions. We are so lucky that we picked this riad to stay in. Would highly recommend and would stay here again when we return.
Nothing to fault
Vero nice place, colse to the main attractions
Food and service GREAT
Room small shower messey
Location and stagflation
Lack of swimming pool
just very helpful and really nice - very little wrong. comfortable beds, nice food, would go back.
baths a bit unusable - would have taken a day to fill and no tissues in bathrooms.
We got a warm and informative welcome from the owner Nelly who is very passionate in making sure her guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay in her villa and makes sure her guests have a wonderful time in Marrakech by giving them very useful tips. The villa is as nice as they are in the photos and there is excellent attention to detail in every way from the decor to the relaxing music that is playing in the background in the common areas (I always got a sense of calm stepping back in to the villa from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech). The staff is always friendly, polite, helpful, professional and are never in your face. Breakfast consists of both western and Moroccan flavours; everyday is different and there is enough there to make sure you don't go hungry (they also offered to cook us omelettes)! I would go back if I ever visit Marrakech again and I would recommend this villa to anyone looking for nice and memorable stay.
Riad Vanilla Sma was so much more I expected. Now I understand all these excellent ratings, riad really is exceptional. The staff, service, rooms, breakfast, athmosphere - everything was just great. I recommend to have airport pick up, even the riad has good location, I am not sure if we would have found the place without pick up service.
Few times we had some problems with wi-fi in our room, but it worked well in common areas.
Everything about it was exceptional. We collected at the airport arranged by Nelly the owner. On arrival we were presented with peppermint tea and biscuits. The Riad was beautifully decorated. Reduion (spelling incorrect) presented us with a map and circled all the best restaurants & places of interest and gave us great advice. We loved our stay here it was a peaceful spa like sanctuary after being in the crazy medina. Could not fault it, the breakfast was fresh and outstanding. We will return one day.
The only thing I didn't like was there was no windows in the rooms but soon realised all Riads are like that and I soon got used to it. There is the roof terrace for sitting in the sun - which I thoroughly enjoyed for breakfast and at late afternoon.
Een pareltje, midden in de medina, en toch buitengewoon rustig en comfortabel. Warm welkom met muntthee en nuttige informatie bv. over hoeveel een petit taxi mag kosten (want afdingen moet!). Redouan is such a nice and helpful young man; every mum would wish him to be her son-in-law, and Sultana is the most lovely person we met during our 17-days trip throughout Morocco! Many thanks for taking such good care of us! Een echte aanrader; the right place to be on a citytrip to Marrakesh!
Amazing food and one of best massages I've had.
The staff made this stay unforgettable. Very accommodating and friendly!
That we couldn't stay in Marrakech for longer!
The whole atmosphere was lovely, the building, the staff, the food and the owner all contributed to a very enjoyable short break. Nelly (who is multi-lingual) was very helpful in organising taxi's and guides as well as suggesting places to visit and eat. Would definitely recommend.
Could not get WiFi whilst sunbathing on the roof terrace and drinking mint tea.
I can't praise this Riad enough. It really was perfect! The staff are excellent and give invaluable advice on where to go, where to eat etc. The breakfast is delicious and there's certainly plenty of it! I would definitely recommend staying here. We also had dinner one night which was great value for money and the food and service was amazing.
I’m so glad that we chose for Riad Vanilla Sma. Our whole trip to Marrakesh wouldn’t have been the same without it. Nelly and her team really are really fantastic. During our stay the Riad felled like a home, a place to relax and rest after a busy day in the hectic Medina. We loved the breakfast and had an outstanding dinner. I also recommend to make use of the optional hammam service. This really made me feel reborn. A special thanks to Redouan… He welcomed us and gave us a map with directions and highlighted points of interest. He also pointed out some great restaurants. Staffing like this is what makes your stay complete and unforgettable. If this is your first trip to Marrakesh than you may feel a bit overwhelmed by the (cultural) differences. Remember that this isn’t your standard European city trip and that you are in Africa. Looking back on our trip we’ve realised that we couldn’t have chose a better place to stay. Your position from the Jemaa el-Fna square is crucial as you will experience when you wander in the Medina and the Souks. Vanilla’Sma’s location is just perfect. There really is no way to thank Nelly and her team enough. I saw someone post a review that just sums it all up so I’ll quote the headline: “You come as a guest, buy you’ll leave as a friend’
The Owner and staff were incredibly charming and helpful. The breakfasts were varied and very good.
Having a curtain instead of a toilet door.
A veritable oasis and ideally located with excellent service, All staff very helpful and friendly
We liked everything about this riad, our room was just the right size, bed was comfortable, had a nice duvet on it, and the pillows were to my liking, which doesn't happen very often, so much so that I normally carry my own, but didn't on this occasion. There is also a safe, which is useful, but I really didn't feel like anything would go missing. The airport transfer is a must and should be taken advantage of, the driver who picked us up was very smart, had a nice 4x4 and spoke good English (my girlfriend thought we were being kidnapped, ha ha). We also had lunch when we arrived, which was spot on. Staying on the subject of food, the breakfasts are great, and change every day, we had pancakes, croissants, bread, fresh fruit, yogurt (my favourite was pistachio), cakes, coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, and eggs (cooked however you desire). The thing that makes this riad very special though, is the owner, Nelly, and her staff, who were all very smiley and really made us feel at home. Nelly spent lots of time with us when we arrived, providing us with a great map, with all of the places we should see and restaurants we should eat at marked on there, information that made our visit all the more enjoyable, she even came to see us off in Jemaa el-Fna square, giving us hugs before we got into our taxi. Marrakech wasn't just a holiday, it was an experience, it's a crazy, busy place, that you really need to be prepared for, and was something very different for us.
If I were giving advice to other travelers considering a trip to Marrakech, I would tell them not to stay in the medina for too long. If you're going for a week, I would advise spending half the week in this riad, then maybe take advantage of one of Marrakech's top quality hotels outside of the city walls. We spent an afternoon at the Sofitel on our last day and it was absolutely beautiful, lunch was AMAZING and so was the pool area, like something from a dream.
Awesome! This place is gorgeous, tranquil and the perfect place to rest after tackling the craziness of Marrakech. My husband and I stayed here with family for five nights. It was my family's first trip to Morocco and it helped in leaving them with a fantastic first impression. All the rooms were as advertised, Nelly and her team are sensational and so accommodating. Breakfasts were so delish and the staff made eggs to order! Radwan even woke up at six one morning to have a full breakfast ready for us since we were all heading out for a day trip! I'd definitely recommend it and would stay here again.
Some of the washrooms aren't very private. In our room, the toilet is hidden by a wall but I still felt like I had to get my husband to leave the room when I needed a little extra privacy! Plus, the showers are hand held ... So this could be tricky when trying to wash and stay warm under the water. The winter evenings and early mornings can be quite cool... So being wet but not under water left me a bit chilled. And, the bathtubs aren't very easy to get into and out of. This wasn't a problem for us because we are still young and mobile but my older aunt found it to be a bit of a challenge. Wifi in the rooms was a bit spotty. We often had to go downstairs to connect.
