Score from 34 reviews Wonderful
Very friendly and welcoming staff. It feels more like at home than a hotel.
My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at Riad Zahra. We had booked the suite (Room 35) which in my opinion was the best of all rooms available. We enjoyed sunsets from the bedroom and had magnificent views over the beach which was a couple of minutes walk away. - The owners were always very helpful as were the staff. - The pool was clean and well maintained. - The breakfasts and food was good in general. - The Riad is well located, away from the hustle and bustle of the souks, but a few minutes ride by petit taxi or 20 min stroll along the beach.
Quality of the food in the grill restaurant, cleanliness, nice sized bathroom, pool area and sensible priced alcohol. The family are super friendly and very welcoming.
Locks didn't work on window (room 13!), bed and pillows a little lumpy. This affected my sleep which was a shame and I have to sleep well on my few holidays. We moved to another hotel and the owner was very understanding.
Best bits? The friendly owners & super staff! Xavier, his wife and son went out of their way, along with their staff, to ensure we had a great time. Both restaurants (Moroccan downstairs and fresh local seafood upstairs) were spectacular. they also have things like pasta, sandwiches and omelettes for the less adventurous! The tapas and beer hour in the afternoon was fabulous! The view is just spectacular from the rooms and restaurant upstairs. I've never seen such gorgeous sunsets over the bay! It's only about 2 minutes walk to the sandy beach so take the time to go down in your bare feet and watch the sun go down.. There were always plenty of sunbeds next to the nice clean pool. A highlight for me was the three turtles in the pool! I loved them! The location is great, quiet but was to find and close to the beach. Everything was spotless. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. It's only 25minutes walk along the most beautiful beach to the main centre, medina and port. Ask Xavier to book a taxi to the airport. Not only did it arrive on time but he negotiated a discount for us too! The taxi driver even stopped on the 20 minute journey so we could take pictures of the goats climbing the Argan trees! Amazing!
The wifi could be slightly temperamental - but you shouldn't be online when there so much else to do here!
The riad was just a block from the ocean. The owner and staff were there, knowledgeable, and very helpful. The breakfasts were included and were the best we had in two months of traveling western Europe. The medina, bus station, and market were all in pleasant walking distance. Room was comfortable and didn't feel too"hotelly".
Slight musty smell in the bedroom.
The staff were welcoming and very helpful and made you feel relaxed. The food in both restaurants was delicious, especially in the upstairs grill. Good selection of wines and very reasonably priced. The pool area was spacious with plenty of sun loungers. The rooms were cleaned daily and the shower was very powerful with hot water. The location is great if you don't mind a bit of a walk to the medina (approx 20 mins), but it is lovely and peaceful and after Marrakech it was quite nice to be away from it all!
location very good, not in the medina but not far (15 mins) and 2 mins walk from sea. Xavier and his wife are very nice and helpful. pool in the garden is just perfect with turtles :)
wifi was not working always properly. breakfast could have been more Moroccan.
Lovely place in good central area facing the beach. Staff excellent and very friendly. Great food.
What a fantastic experience. Such a lovely warm welcome from the hosts, Xavier and Edit. Very helpful and informative with maps and advise on hand. The food was amazing with a choice of 2 restaurants. Excellent value and wuality. The pool area was spotless and we loved the resident turtles. Our room was relaxing and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay so much that we extended it for an extra night. We're really looking forward to a return visit in the not too distant future. Thank-you both, Xavier and Edit. ( Thank you for the email prior to our stay, informing us of the nearby building work. It really was not a problem, and did not in any way spoil our stay.)
Fantastic location very close to the quiet end of the beach Incredible food Staff and owners are all very very very nice and genuinely friendly Rooms, pool, sunset restaurant all top class. Would definitely recommend to anyone and would return here if going back to essouaira
Only small problem was No air con or fan in room
The staff at this road was lovely. We left early in the morning before breakfast and they prepared a bag with breakfast for us.
The pool is really nice and fresh, with a few friendly turtles hanging around. Staff is helpful and honestly friendly. The beer and tapa deal from 18:00 to 19:00 is really good value for money. Breakfast is above average thanks to the fruit buffet. The room was spacious and adequately furnished, although a bit lacking in sockets (so many chargers nowadays). It was quite and although it heated up a bit in the evenings, opening the windows let in the sea breeze and cooled everything quickly. Everything was clean and well sorted.
It is typical of the area but there are no shutters and the curtains really let in a lot of light which cut into my sleep. No wifi in terrace or pool area.
Fish restaurant, superb food, excellent service, great views. Location good if into water sports. Would suit surfers.
Hotel atrium it was in need of an overall, it felt dark & oppressive.
What did you like? Essentially everything. The location may be a 20minute or so walk from the ramparts but it is wonderfully close to the beach, some restaurants on the beach and you have access to beach activities like camel / horse riding, quad biking or windsurfing right at your door step. The staff here are phenomenal, very professional while being friendly, helpful. They are all incredibly welcoming and nothing you ask is too hard. They are also very multi lingual. Too be honest though our highlight was the pool, or rather a) sunbathing around the pool, or b) admiring the turtles and tortoises that call this riad home. I think everyone of all ages ends up being fascinated by the creatures at one stage or another. I can whole heartedly say that any one visiting Essaouira should make Riad Zahra their first choice for accommodation.
The only two minor negatives was the shower head, it squirted water everywhere but on you and most would consider the beds to be quite hard. Very small things though.
Close to the beach and 15 min walk from the Medina excellent restaurants on site friendly helpful staff. Value for money Very clean and well laid out
The only thing I can think of would be that the wifi drops out.
We were treated so well by all the lovely staff here that we felt very welcome all of our time here. A beautifully appointed hotel with good breakfasts and meals in the restaurant.
Maybe if anything the pool was a bit cold even in July. Very very windy ( even for here) .probably had a lot to do withi it!
Staff were amazingly helpful, they organised anything I wanted. Very relaxing poolside and the food in the restaurants was great.
Extremely kind staff, great breakfast and perfect location, within 2 minutes of the beach and a 20 minute beachwalk to the medina. The staff makes you feel right at home.
Stuff very friendly and helpful, quite place
Staff were fairly friendly and happy to arrange taxis/excursions. Pool area was never too busy. Great view from the restaurant of the beach although the food itself was average and over priced.
Breakfast was lacking- yoghurts were often out of date and crepes were cold. The wifi connectivity was inconsistent (could only be accessed if at all in some areas of the hotel).
Amazing staff!! Excellent restaurant. Bed was a bit hard but overall a very good Riad. Very accommodating.
Fantastic fresh food, very calm and quiet area, close to the beach, very friendly owner:-) I recommend for everybody!
Everything- especially the staff. We got treated much better here than in a 4* hotel in Marrakesh
The owners and staff are amazing and really lovely and I wish I could stay longer. Nice pool with resident turtles (tortoise?) for kicks.
Wifi did not work well in my room but I was probably as far as one could be from the router!. All other parts of property worked great
Exceeded my expectations. - comfort - good size room and bathroom - clean - great breakfast with healthy options - hotel and pool areas very nice - restaurant - reasonably priced and great food - staff extremely helpful and kind
