The staff made us feel very welcome. The breakfast was delicious! The rooms and decor is beautiful! Really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel.
The most lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings... truly romantic. Loved everything about the hotel and Kotor Bay. Will return and recommend.
Having to leave. Romantic lighting in rooms slightly too dark for getting ready.
Friendly comfortable hotel
WiFi not good in our room
The hotel was a great little find for us. Small and boutique in style with lovely helpful staff. The location is in the heart of Old Kotor Town and perfect for discovering little shops and restaurants down all the old cobbled paths. Breakfast is very good with a vast choice of freshly baked and cooked dishes. The hotel offers a complimentary access to the secure Parking just a few minutes walk away. We will definitely stay with them again!
The windows are double-glazed but due to the proximity of all the old buildings (which is the charm), you are able to hear sounds and night revellers. I would say this would be the case of probably all accommodation in the old town. The rooms are well thought out, but the bathrooms are extremely small and a little cramped. To give a feeling of openness the walls separating it from the bedroom are made of glass and completely visible. Whilst stylish, this may not be comfortable for everyone.
Excellent location, huge suite with 2xbathrooms, superb breakfast & excellent waiting on staff
Awful reception staff. Initial greeting from miljica was appalling. Barely acknowledged our prescence throughout the stay & looked completely uninterested. We paid nearly €1000 for 3 nights & it should be much better.
the staff. The restaurant. Parking was available not too far away.
The location is within the city walls, but not near the main squares, and difficult to find.... in a narrow alley. The room (a "superior double") was described as 678 ft2, which should have been huge. However it turned out to be a suite, and the bedroom part was tiny -- one of the smallest bedrooms we have ever stayed in. The bathroom was also very small. These two rooms were so small that there was virtually no shelf space for cosmetics, clothing, books, much less suit cases. The living room part was fairly large, but again with very little shelf space or luggage stands, so that the only option was to put things on the sofa. The shower didn't drain. We informed the staff, but nothing was done to fix it. The pillows were rock hard. There was very little closet space. There were virtually no windows. The only windows looked out on an alley that was only a few feet wide. The ceilings were low. The lighting was weird -- lots of spot lights to emphasize elements of the architecture or decor, but not very functional for normal lighting. The cost of the room was terribly high for the quality of the actual bedroom we got. If you book this hotel, don't consider a superior double. Maybe a comfort double would not have the same problems, but we can't confirm that.
Very helpful friendly staff.Lovely restaurant and outside seating for breakfast.Traditional old building with very modern rooms. In the heart of Kotor but a calm oasis once inside.
Room was quite dark even with lights on and some noise from nearby bar at night.
The rooms are wonderfully decorated and the staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. Food was fantastic.
The bathroom smelt damp because there isn't great circulation but it was very clean and comfortable. Parking is difficult but that will apply to all hotels in Kotor. The constant hotel music was annoying.
We loved the helpful staff, the superb location at the back of the tiny old city, and the fantastic breakfast which could be taken inside or out.
The bathroom has to be of the worst design we have ever encountered. The glass wall dividing the bedroom was not the problem. You had to bend to the side to see the bathroom mirror and a curtain gave you privacy whilst using the toilet but it was almost on top of you.
Hippocampus is a hotel where you feel the wings of history and where you live in modern style at the same time as being taken back to both ancient times and the renaissance. The staff are very attentive and helpful and you live in the middle of the old town of Kotor with a view over both the city and the old fort above. I would highly recommend to spend a few extra euros to live in this wonderful hotel!
The hotel has excellent facilities and great food. It is just a step or two from anything Kotor has to offer as a destination, right in the middle of the old town. Staff are genuine and friendly with Igor a great example of a hard working employee.
Service was inconsistent. One day excellent and the next day remarkably inefficient. TV and telephone systems are based on wifi which worked half the time. The rates do not reflect the service levels that should be in place at all times. Room 401 needs frosted glass at the WC.
Staff was great, location was good. Overall a very pleasing experience. Recommend it to anyone traveling to Kotor.
The hotel is impressive, the room was so comfortable and clean, the breakfast was freshly cooked. We highly recommend also the hotel's restorant - dinner at the rooftop is so romantic, the food was fresh and delicious. The hotel's location is perfect, everything is perfect. We would like to say a BIG thank you to all staff for such an enjoyable stay at your hotel. All of you made us so welcome and were kind and helpful. We will certainly be recommending your hotel to our friends and hope that we can return some time. Many thanks again!
Staff were very friendly from the entrance till we left. Even they helped us to find a hotel at another location of Montenegro. Thanks to hippocampus.
Staff were kind and helpful, room was very clean & great breakfast every morning thankyou to all the hippo staff!!
Beautiful hotel in Kotor old town. Everything was just great. Lovely room, very comfortable. It's a small and intimated hotel and a refuge from the maddening crowds outside. Service was excellent as were all the staff who were incredibly helpful. They even came to the carpark to collect my bags! the restaurant was lovely both on their upstairs terrace with views over the town and the inside dining room. The food was very good and I ate there for the two nights I was there. Breakfast was also lovely. Definitely recommend this hotel, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
Everything was great. There is a bit of noise from the bar down stairs, but that cant be avoided in a small town, packed with tourists.
location, room size, hotel design My true regards to the very welcome and polite gentleman serving breakfast! Thank you once again!
too short stay :(
Superb level of service. Breakfast was amazing. Friendly staff with attention to detail. Highly recommended.
We arrived at Hippocampus and the staff were very friendly, we had a standard double room on the first floor which was very nice, comfortable bed, modern features, good hidden wardrobe space - we didn't want to leave! Just as we opened our door to go for a walk the hotel staff arrived with a birthday cake and candles as it was my boyfriends birthday! This, we thought was a lovely gesture and we were very happy! We discovered that they had a tiny little roof terrace (I hadn't noticed this in the description), so we decided to have Will's birthday dinner up there... Turned out it was our Waiter, (Egor's) birthday too - he was charming and we chatted for ages, he went through the menu with us and was incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable and had great English - he really made our night... And then the food! Fresh Octopus Risotto (caught that day) and fresh Seabass (he informed us that it had been caught the day before... It was still delicious).. And the beef steak and truffle pasta... Out of this world! We ate enough for 4 people but every mouthful was unbelievably yummy! Their Lamb in Milk dish was unavailable that day so Egor gave me a great explanation of how they cook it so I could try it back home! We had the Serbian Sauvignon wine which was really fruity and delicious.. Better than the Montenegran Plantaze Sauvignon which was ok (cheaper) but a bit more acidic and again, Egor was very attentive towards us with pouring but without being overpowering. We really can't fault this hotel because the people there really made our one night here very special! Highly recommend it!
Only things I would point out are that you can hear keys and doors being opened, it is not especially quiet but this wasn't really a problem for us. The open view bathroom is ok if a little cramped when you choose to close the "loo curtain" but that's about it!
Lovely place great good and comfort save for late eve noise.
Too noisey from bar next door windows need to be triple glazed.
Great room, comfortable bed, good shower, excellent breakfast, helpful staff, small restaurant on the roof with views over the rooftops.
Wi-Fi worked in the bedroom but not in the sitting area (room 101).
great location, clean rooms.
So I reserved this hotel 8 weeks before I arrive. the price dropped %30 after I reserve. I told the lady at the front desk about it she said she would match it when I checkout but she only discounted for %10. I am not happy about that....
Home atmosphere and genuine staff. Your home away from home
Very good location, charming place and kind staff. Very delicious brekfast.
