Staff very courteous and friendly. Buffet breakfast excellent. Pool and gardens Location perfect for Valetta and buses to everywhere.
Piped Jazz music in the bar that the barman couldn't change even though we were the only two in.
great location to old city proximity to bus/transport nice pool with spectacular views room with a balcony relaxing atmosphere within hotel lovely lounge area with live eve music
Location outside the Valleta walls, garden to swimpool with nice view of the bay.
Old hotel, need improvements on maintenance and restoration .
The location, the general ambience, helpfulness of staff. Having breakfast out on the terrace each morning overlooking the walls of Valletta is always a treat. I have stayed at the Phoenicia before, and I would certainly say there again.
The out-of-keeping stone walls in the Palm Court (new since about 2006, and replacing nice in-keeping plaster). My air-con didn't work, but they moved me quickly to a nicer room.
Wonderful welcome from reception Good food Great pool vista Gardens Room with two balconies on second floor with beautiful view Few children We got exactly the room we asked for Argentinian tango in the Palm Court was fun Lovely rooftop balcony restaurant Comfortable bar with good cocktails
Some of the waiting staff have a 'rabbit in headlight' look and need to be better trained, though always polite Surroundings of the extensive gardens are ruinous, literally
Nothing to dislike
The staff are so obliging, friendly and professional. The food is excellent and the ambience warm and inviting. This is gracious living at its best. Lovely large room and good air con. Overall, a stunning holiday.
The shower head was on its last legs but could be easily replaced!
Hotel is somewhat dated Small pool
Location was superb , staff were very helpful and assisted with travel plans , day trips and restaurant bookings , rooms clean and very comfortable. Garden area with poolside bar were excellent with a terrific view over the bay .
Retained great deal of character with high standard of service. Ideal position for those who are happy to explore by bus and short walk to city. Beautiful gardens and peaceful pool with extensive views
Aircon a bit noisy, thought spa treatments were available but not evident
The Phoenicia has an excellent location with easy and quick access to the city. The service is ok and so are the not rooms of average size. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is ok for the normal standard in Malta which is not really very good.
The Hotel is very old and traditional and urgently needs a total renovation and modernization. We cannot really consider it a 5-Star Hotel by international standard in its present condition. The pool is very far away and for the size of the Hotel too small.Generally this Hotel cannot be considered more than a 4-Star Hotel.
Location was great, room was very comfortable and clean, staff were friendly and helpful. Really good breakfast, and dining services in general very good. I was travelling on my own, and I often do, and was made to feel very welcome and not at all a problem to be dining solo etc.
I really can't think of much to complain about. The style of the hotel is on the older side, but this didn't detract from the comfort at all.
Staff Spotlessly clean Quality bed and linen Central location Food
Pool quite a long walk from hotel Bacon at breakfast not quite crisp "Boiling" water brought to table for tea making sometimes a little cool
chamber maids were friendly, helpful and polite. Food was good Location was ideal.
Front of house staff surly and unhelpful. Pool was a long way from the hotel Mini bar wasn't refreshed even when requested. Bathroom needed an upgrade! No hair conditioner provided
Close location to city sights Warm pool Clean rooms
Price of breakfast so went out instead, much more fun. Expensive restaurants, outside our budget.
Nice room and restaurant terrasse, garden and pool well kept. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Wind protection at pool area not cleaned recently.
Location by Valetta right next to the main bus terminus since buses are the best way to get around. The grounds are well kept and beautiful.
For the price and hotel category, better attention could be given to details like complimentary drinking water (since summer is extremely hot and dry) in the rooms and quality of toiletries. Food at the main restaurant was also a big let down considering we had been eating really well elsewhere.
The gardens and pool area
This hotel is in the entry of the city.
The reception is nice but the room are really horrible. It's old, not clean, and not confortable. The people are not nice. It's a 3 stars maximum and never a 5 stars hotel. And 250 euro for a 3 stars it's too much.
Situation of the hôtel, nice garden
Dirtiness of the bathroom and the derelict of the whole hotel. Good for a 3 stars and a lower price.
Staff great, didn't want for anything & couldn't have asked for better. Location brilliant!
The fact that breakfast is not included in the price is a bit of a let down.
Classy old world charm and location.
Friendliness; overall ambience; convenient location; being called at Archbishop though I am only a bishop :-); great room; pool area; Lovely breakfast terrace and real effort to find tables outside for us; friendly bar staff.
Although the breakfast itself was excellent just a couple of the waitresses appeared somewhat indifferent and slow.
Hotel Phoenecia Malta is in a perfect position to explore the old town of Valletta and very handy for local buses and the hop-on/off tourist bus -literally able to catch the bus directly outside the hotel. The hotel décor is refined and we enjoyed the comfortable salon as a place to relax and have a cup of tea. The pool facilities were also good. We had three meals in the hotel restaurant and found the set menu for the terrace restaurant was good value for money and consistently offered very good European food with excellent presentation. The set courses were changed daily and the staff provided silver-service to a high standard. We also enjoyed drinks accompanied by live jazz music at night. Our room was cool (air-con throughout hotel) and comfortable and the bed made up nicely each day. We chose not to have sheets changed daily, but this was available if desired. Good to have the environmental option. The Phoenecia has been described as a grand old hotel and I would certainly endorse this description - I could imagine a by-gone era when Englishmen dressed for dinner and ladies wore fashionable hats, in keeping with this classy hotel.
Only two minor things - there is no free Wi-Fi in the rooms, but it was not too much hassle to sit in the salon in a comfortable armchair to access the internet. The second thing was that the water from the tap in the room was not recommended for drinking - a free bottle of water on arrival would be appreciated.
We booked online four nights in a harbour view room well ahead of friends who decided to join us for one night. On check-in we were unhappy that they got a magnificent 180 degree harbour view room and ours a glimpse of water with a view of the carpark and staff entrance. We were moved the next day to the other side when we asked for a better outlook. This room was much bigger, bit of an improvement with regard to the harbour view and the air-conditioning worked more efficiently than our first. The pool was lovely and the breakfast also very good. Staff very pleasant and professional.
