Good base with an excellent location. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was cleaned daily (even though we didn't request it to be). The room was spacious and the aircon/fan combo was a god send. Because we were only after somewhere as a base (i.e. out all day so only after somewhere to sleep) I knew from reading previous reviews that there was a possibility that the room may not have a balcony/view, however I was a little surprised that we barely had a window either. There is a lot of building work going on in Sliema and this impacted slightly on the stay (huge crane right above the roof terrace), however as a tourist you have to take some responsibility for this. The information on the website showed a check in time of 12:00 which was a major factor in choosing the hotel but on arrival I discovered it was actually 2pm. If we had been staying longer than 4 nights I would have been a little disappointed but all in all a good stay.

Clean, cosy, simple, recently redecorated rooms with basic needs (air conditioning, bath, toilet, 220W socket, comfortable beds), polite and helpful staff. Plenty of food for breakfast. If needed, a good restaurant with reasonable prices for an evening meal on the ground floor. The hotel is in perfect location - close to the shopping streets and public transport (bus and ferry). 24h reception services for late arrivers and early leavers!!! No access to the mobile telephone network from some places in the room. For cheap rooms be ready for a very small window and little daylight. Acceptable, if you do not plan to spend much time in the room.

Sea ideal opposite hotel for snorkling and walking along the promenade in an evening was very nice plenty of places to eat close to hotel. Buffet breakfast sufficient, evening meal in restauant good value but if you have a 10% voucher make sure you show it when you order or you will forfiet it at end of meal.Staff very helpful

The location is great and the stuff are all very helpful. We changed a room from 2nd floor to 6th floor (661 with sea view) and the view turned to be much better and it was less noisy during the night. As other reviews pointed out that the breakfast was not that good and only very basic stuffs were available. Surprisingly, the restaurant of the hotel actually serves good food and they were much cheaper than other restaurants outside with big proportion of our order.

At 13euro per night was good value. Breakfast was good. My room was cleaned daily with fresh towels. Good for budget travellers Due to low cost of rooms the hotel seems to attract a lot of students, younger travellers. Throughout my 5 night stay the hotel was noisy and I was frequently disturbed by noisy guests on the same floor and hanging around the lobby. Also there were no tea or coffee making facilities in my room, the toilet developed problems flushing and the staff on reception seemed bored and uninterested. The tv in the room was poor, a small portable set and I could only receive 3 news channels. Also there were no complimentary toiletries, shampoo etc.

Luckily I asked for the sea-view upgrade, because I really like seeing and hearing the waves crashing on the beach right in front of the hotel. Buses stop in front of the hotel every five minutes or so and take you all over Malta. Breakfast is simple and was even included in my 18-euro-per-day room! There are pubs and all kinds of facilities nearby at very reasonable prices (glass of J&B whisky at 1.60 euro for example), only public transport is expensive (2,20 euro single ticket, 2,60 euro day ticket). Do take the harbour cruise if weather permits: I am personally hardly interested in boats, but what I saw was really overwhelming! I also visited the St. John's co-cathedral on Republic Street in Valletta: the outside looks very boring, but the inside beats the Sistine Chapel! Television only has CNN, BBC World News and sometimes a Maltese channel, but I did not come to Malta for watching television...

The localisation is quite good, just at the bus stop. Very easy to go to Valetta or to access the "beach" I didn't feel very confortable in the bed, for me it was not very fresh. The bathroom was not always very clean. The juice at the breakfast was in powder and people were not very warmfull. I know this hotel is not expensive but I always travel in hotels with this type of budget and it's the first time I'm so disappointed. It's just ok to stay 2 or 3 days.

“We really enjoyed our stay at The Carlton and will be back. It is in close proximity to all amenities, with a bus stop close by. There are pubs and restaurants all around and paceville is not too far away. Breakfast was fine with a varied selection. Shower was good with a good flow, and there were fresh towels ,toilet rolls and soap replenished daily. The view from our seaview room was spectacular as were the views from the breakfast room. Lovely staff completed our enjoyment of this hotel. Thankyou Carlton.” Grace, Glasgow |
