The hotel is right in the centre next to St. John's Cathedral.
The noise that the clock chimes make regularly 24/7. We coped with this by wearing earplugs for sleeping.
Being in the hustle and bustle of the centre of the city. Masses of interesting memorabilia on the walls and in corridors around the hotel. Lovely staff and good reasonably priced food.
St John's Co-Cathedral clock chiming throughout the night - but we were warned!
Location was excellent. Handy restaurant on the ground floor.
Only window looked onto the common internal courtyard, so no fresh air. If you wanted privacy you had to close the shutters, which meant no daylight.
Maria, the owner was so helpful and hospitable. Good location, lovely spacious room, excellent breakfast, and the fabulous family restaurant nearby was an added bonus. Highly recommended.
Really nice location, super friendly staff, especially Aleka and Pauline and the chef, great food, flexible service, nice rooms, really liked the design and atmosphere, nice view from roof top, clean.
Internet was not working in all the rooms, was quite unreliable. Rooms can only be accessed by the elevator during restaurant opening hours, closes10.30pm, except for Sunday when it closes already at 3pm. We did not mind taking the stairs, nice design, but for those with handicap or the elderly it could be something to consider.
The hotel is a piece of history in itself with its carefully restored rooms, stairways and passages. The food is good and the staff are helpful and you are right in the middle of the old town. The view from the rooftop is wonderful.
The only thing to be aware of is the proximity of the church bells which strike every 15 minutes - if this is likely to disturb your sleep then make sure you have good earplugs.
Location in centre of pedestrian area but only 50m up from taxi drop off. Pretty room, comfy bed, good shower, 24/7 access (card), good coffee, cheerful staff. Church bells do wake you, but expecting them & back to sleep afterwards; slept with window open & air con off & didn't bother with the ear plugs I'd brought. Following a week walking & snorkelling in Gozo-2 days was perfect to tour all churches & old city.
Aspects of continental breakfast were disappointing (coffee good, juice & toast fine, packet ham & cheese slices dull, packet jam and butter normal).
We arrived at 9pm to the Luciano Boutique Hotel where an unfriendly member of staff checked us in, in the middle of a restaurant. We were led up to our room, which upon opening the door we were met with an unbelievable gush of hot air. They hadn't even the air con on for us. We were gasping. Then the church bells chimed EVERY 20 MINUTES all through the night. Between the heat and the bells, we didn't sleep a wink. The next morning, we were shown to a table for breakfast by another unfriendly, uninterested member of staff. It felt like we were an inconvenience to them. The food was mediocre and the service was terrible. On departing the same member of staff that checked us in left me standing with 4 big suitcases in the busy restaurant with key cards in my hand waiting to check out. She looked at me and was fully aware that I was checking out however she continued to pass me by. Eventually she acknowledged me, she never even asked "Was our stay ok?" The staff in this hotel have NO customer service. It was so disappointing.
Good position and relaxing
Steps and staircases
Location excellent Very close to main Bus Terminus Clean Friendly Staff
Its in a really central location and has an excellent restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms and public areas were beautifully decorated with all sorts of interesting objets d'art. It also had a lovely roof terrace with spectacular views. The air conditioning worked well and was quiet and the wifi had a good signal.
The continental breakfast was a bit Spartan and the beds too firm for my liking.
St John's square was brillant location! As a solo traveller you are well situated for sight seeing as there is plenty to see and do in Valletta. The buses which are on the entrance to the city are easy to use and cheap.
The restaurant staff really. They were only interested in the workings of serving the eating public and were down right rude actually when I arrived - there is no reception - in all manner of the word. There was a lift but that was not always available and I struggled down 3 flights of dimly lit stairs with a heavy case at 7.30 am on my departure.
Location , view of St. John's from our room was amazing , helpfulness of staff very Accomodating organising 4am pickup and packed breAkfast
Springs could be felt in bed mattresses. Elevator only accessible during restaurant hours
The area and outdoor café facilities
steps on the upper floors!
In the heart of La Valletta Despite being in the heart of touristic area, it is rather quiet.
Interiors deperately need refurbishment. Furniture looks made up of garage sale items. € 100 a night is unreasonable at best.
Ideal location for seeing Valletta and visiting the rest of the islands. Friendly staff, good room, albeit without any access to daylight and a noisy PayAsYouGo airconditioner; very good food and service; useful lift (shared with serving staff and not in use when we left at 6:45am for the airport).
Three flights of a circular staircase used when we left the building early in the morning of departure!!
The location of this guesthouse was excellent. All the staff were very helpful and pleasant. We had a duplex room overlooking the square which was brilliant.
The only downside to staying here was the noise from the cathedral bells. They went on all through the night causing a week of sleepless nights!
Only stayed one night here but would have liked to have spent more, particularly as Valletta is such a beautiful and interesting place. The hotel itself is quite quirky (lots of pretty antique items around the place) and is very clean and comfortable. The only odd thing is that it does not have a dedicated reception – the reception is the counter of the café below, which is also the place to take breakfast. If you arrive after the café closes at 10.30, you need to book a transfer with the hotel as that is the only way you will be able to get in. Position of the hotel is perfect, just by the cathedral in the centre of the old city.
Re the breakfast, do not bother with the continental option as this is just “plastic” slices of cheese and ham and a few bits of toast – the cooked breakfast was a lot better.
The room was spacious and very clean. Display of all things past very quirky, but wonderfully laid out. Spent some time exploring all the nooks and crannies, as well as the views from the rooftop area. We enjoyed the experience so much, we have booked in again for next year.
Might be an idea to check rooftop area for empty glasses and bottles from the night before.
location, roof terrace, breakfast
The restaurant was so busy, there was no sense of service for hotel guests. The bells of the cathedral made sleeping through the night impossible.
Location is excellent, staff is very friendly, room is clean
Access to hotel is through the bar - without knowing this beforehand it is very difficult to find it. Surprized that guest has to pay for AC separately- we've learned it when our AC stopped working. Nobody bothered to tell us this during check in which resulted in sleepless night. Elevator stops working after ten at night and is not turned on till after 8 in the morning, which was also surpizing. To get to the ground from the 4 th floor with heavy suitcase via spital narrow stairway was very non- trivial task, to say the least.
superb location, helpful staff, lovely rooms and great food
The location of the b&b is outstanding, right in the very heart of Valletta surrounded by stunning streets, passageways and squares. It's a very quirky property with lots of passageways, corridors, balconies and antiques of its own!
The staff were disinterested, bordering on rude. There was a night where the power was lost. I went to inform reception and was snapped at saying 'we know'.. Lots of eye rolling and tutting... Not professional at all.. The same was true at breakfast where we had to ask several times and wait nearly 20 minutes for a coffee and a juice..
Rooms were ok Go for English breakfast. Continental does not offer you much Great position, close to all attractions, to ferrys and to the bus terminal. Fast response from the staff to a shower problem.
Hotel is actually a restaurant that happens to have some rooms. The noise of the cathedral could be a problem for rooms that face it. We heard it, but it was not disturbing.
When I arrived in Valletta I felt like I had stepped back in time into a medieval century. My room was exactly like this with sandstone walls, balcony, tiled floors and old world furniture. This was a wonderful experience in life. Breakfast was wonderful in the restaurant downstairs below the accomodation. A life experience definitely not to be missed.
